Wow so much to say! This place is such a gem on the bayou…read more The food is true, authentic Cajun food. My husband has lived on the bayou his entire life and said this is a the only place around here that sticks to its roots. Good, home cooking. No twists and extra things to try and elevate it. It stands all on its own! The decor is so cute! Cajun, down the bayou phrases and photos. Clean! Also plays Cajun music so it really sets up the whole vibe. Okay, the FOOD! We started with the shrimp boulettes, mushroom and Brie soup, and the corn bisque. SO GOOD. Seasoned so well which so many restaurants lack these days!! The boulettes were fried perfectly, not soggy or over greased. For entrees my husband got the "taste of the bayou" which had jambalaya, red beans and rice, and crawfish etouffee. All of them were seasoned perfectly, great sized portions, and just so full of flavor! I got the cochon de lait panini and it was so yummy. The meat was drenched in a tangy sauce and pressed in such yummy bread. I loved it. Came with a side of potato salad but there were also other options. It was so good! Lastly we got the brownie a la mode. It had melted chocolate chips inside and literally melted in your mouth. Didn't get a pic bc we ate it too quickly. Everything was delicious! Also they had the cutest little Cajun menu for the kids. Really great restaurant! Service was amazing from our server Shay. Will definitely be back!

Let me tell you something. We just finished a swamp tour in the Louisiana bayou -- gators, cypress…read moretrees, Spanish moss, the whole magnificent thing -- and we were hungry, a little wild-eyed, and in desperate need of a meal worthy of the morning we just had. Restaurant des Familles delivered in every single way. We ordered the crab cakes, the turtle soup, and the étouffée, and I am not being dramatic when I say all three were absolutely out of this world. The crab cakes were perfect -- crispy outside, sweet and fresh inside, no filler, no shortcuts. The turtle soup was rich and deeply seasoned in that only-in-Louisiana way that makes you close your eyes on the first spoonful. And the étouffée? Silky, buttery, loaded with flavor. Every single dish tasted like someone's grandmother made it with love and a lifetime of knowing exactly what she was doing. But beyond the food -- this place is just beautiful. Tucked right into the bayou, quiet and unhurried, with that warm Louisiana hospitality that makes you feel like a welcome guest rather than a table to turn. We walked in as road-tripping strangers and left feeling like we'd found one of the best kept secrets in the whole state. If you are anywhere near Barataria, whether you just came off a swamp tour or you made the drive specifically for this -- stop here. You will not regret a single bite. Restaurant des Familles is the real deal.

This restaurant is conveniently located right on the waterway and offers beautiful views while dining. We've been lucky enough to catch a few of the female alligators sunbathing on the banks during sunny days. The menu has something for everyone featuring many delicious choices. You could definitely share as the portions are huge! Don't sleep on the Onion Rings, it's always a table favorite!

Get ready to let the good times roll when you walk through the door, the sign above the counter…read moresays "Welcome to Cajun Paradise, I'm with couyon" being born and raised in southwest Louisiana I can definitely get the meaning in the correct context, I can also recognize authentic Cajun cooking when it's put down in front of me and mais sha let me tell you these folks are doing it proud. We stopped in here for lunch and ended up with a sampling of what in my opinion is probably the best example of cajun food done right in Houma and for miles around - everything was delicious and the service from Sarah L was outstanding. We started with the Charbroiled Oysters served with toasted french bread, the plump Louisiana oysters were succulent and dipping the french bread in the cajun butter became an obsession, definitely a must do starter - I wasn't leaving here without trying their chicken and sausage gumbo, perfect texture and complex flavors it will make you a believer, my hats off to the chef, definitely authentic - the fried catfish filets and jumbo fried shrimp platters were outstanding although we didn't do it these are the foundation of an amazing po-boy (maybe next time) - all the sides were exceptional from the fried okra and onion rings to my personal favorite the skillet fried potatoes and who could leave without a few beignets served hot covered in powdered sugar - what a meal they should have a place to lay down in the back for a "cajun nap". In my opinion if you craving some authentic cajun dishes you can't go wrong here, the portions are nice and the prices are very reasonable. Our schedule didn't allow us to return as we had planned but will definitely return when we are back in the area...

All food was solid. Seafood gumbo was particularly good. Definitely worth a visit if you are passing through town. For any Midwesterners, you may find the potato salad a little bland. Was expecting a bit more but it was okay. Next time I would skip and get a different side. Most locals seemed to order 1/2 pound of boiled seafood.

Our server, Christopher, was very attentive, suggested wine pairings, and gave us great recommendations. We started with the charbroiled oysters which is a must. They were large and charred to perfection on the outside grill, topped with parm and breadcrumbs. My friends ordered the filet and the gulf fish, and I had the charred cabbage entree, with a French gerwurztraminer blend. The mushrooms with the blue cheese sauce were so rich and delicious! Sweet treats were a no brainer. The blue cheese flan was creamy and decadent. A perfect ending to the meal. This is so far my fave restaurant in New Orleans. The moment you step into Atchafalaya, you realize it. Ambience is amazing, quirky, cool, homey and cozy. Staff is amazing. We sat in our own private room and were treated to a very special delight of a dinner.
