First off, I wanted to start by mentioning that we came here as part of our all-inclusive plan, therefore I cannot remember what the prices of these items would be if we paid for it.. I also can never complain about "free" food- so truly a 5/5. But since I am here to be an honest yelper, let's dive into the details! We were able to dine here twice during our stay, and were able to get reservations only by booking a day in advance- it's not a place you can get into last minute, at least during the busy season- and that goes for all of the restaurants on the property. The staff was BEYOND amazing, truly so kind, helpful, considerate, professional, everything I would hope for and more. We were celebrating my birthday and they sang a wonderful song and remembered us the second time we came back- a few days later. We had a few hits and a few less-exciting dishes when we visited, so I will touch on those. We came back a second time because of the Octopus. He had it two different ways, and My fiance raved about it, a total hit. I tested almost every caesar salad on the property and this one was my favorite. The strawberry jelly dessert with whatever that crumbly stuff was- a big yes from both of us! They unfortunately didn't have it the second time and that may have been a big reason we returned- so bummer! But good to know that stuff is made fresh and therefore runs out. For the less-appetizing dishes- the cauliflower. If you look at my photo of it, it truly was just a slab of cauliflower- slightly undercooked and underseasoned. There was a sweet potato puree and a coconut milk drizzle, all so creative, but ultimately lacked flavor. Skip this one. The carrot cake looks like it has evolved over the years when I look at other yelpers photos, ours was unfortunately prettier than it was tasty. We had dinner at La Casona twice during our stay at Villa del Palmar. Both times, we were blown away by the mussels, which were cooked in a nice butter garlic white wine sauce and came with deliciously hot french fries! We also really liked the rib eye steak, which was tender and seasoned just enough. Unfortunately the picaña was a little on the chewy side, and the slow cooked short rib came with a sauce that was a little too sweet for my taste. Also disappointingly the chocolate cake and carrot cake were both very dry and a major let down for dessert. Our wise waiter hinted to us to try the chocolate ice cream, which was so creamy and saved the end of our dinner! All in all, La Casona may not have been our favorite spot at the resort, but it was still a great dinner option with fine ambiance. Wonderful service and delicious food! Nestled off the beach on the edge of the resort. It's a definite must try. Especially if you're All Inclusive. The menu items boast of the freshest seafood and best cuts of steaks you can imagine. I decided on the prime rib. It was melt in my mouth delicious!!! I can't say this is a steakhouse. Aged steak cooked with no crust, and under perfect medium rare Caesar salad was overdressed and croutons were soft. Disappointing, especially for the cost. Any of the steakhouses in Reno are better, at less of a premium. Also, wife got sick likely from the tuna tartare. read more

La Casona is our preferred steakhouse when staying at Villa del Palmar or Casa Blanca in Cancun. The food is well prepared and offers a great variety of excellent meat cuts and fish. We love the appetizers, especially the berry salad and the artichoke salad, as well as the onion soup. We both ordered the filet mignon, which was very well prepared and really tender. Our second time at Villa Del Palmar and our first opportunity to try La Casona STK. For being with a party of 12, the service was above my expectations. My Appetizer's: Clam chowder soup-5 stars Beef Tartare-4 stars Pork Belly-5 stars My Entree's: Tenderloin-4 stars tender but no flavor Short Ribs- 3 stars very tough Shared Desserts: Apple Tart-5 stars great crust, great taste Creme Brûlée-3 stars Carrot tart-4 stars For a really classy place, I think I'm being generous with my rating. I feel that a place like this needs to pay attention to the small details of flavor and proper cooking temps. As steak seems very easy to cook, it can actually be the hardest to get the perfect doneness every time, but I think they should be able to get it right since this is what they do every day. read more

Terrible. 2023-nov-29. Night began confused, they didn't have sign down for old restaurant, and didn't have enough menus for us, although was not busy. Waiter (Julio) never said a nice word to us, or told us specials or checked on us or offered us drink refills. Only one drink menu for table. Food was bad too, ribeye cut too thin, three steaks undercooked, sauces mediocre. Lumpy mashed potatoes, creamed spinach tasty like a hot dip but only 1/8 of an inch thick in a ramican with no spoon. Tuna carpachio underwheming with three slices of unevenly cut toast for four slices of fish which were too thin. I guess the all inclusive bands aren't really welcome here. Run away. read more

Tough time trying to rate this one. Very upscale and nice setting. We were seated immediately with reservation. Asked the wait staff for opinions but didn't get much feedback. We had to ask for extra spicy sauce to help give the food some taste. We forget this is catered towards the typical tourist and food was fairly bland. Stay to the rare side on your steak option - medium was more like well done. Big show for birthdays so if you are here for a celebration, let them know! Based on this, I feel the rating is quite fair - we go to a restaurant for the food and the dishes here seemed underwhelming. So don't forget the hot salsa or sauces!! read more

To begin with my family had high hopes visiting this restaurant, as it was my wife's birthday. We visited Xcaret (awesome outdoor theme park I hope to revisit) prior and left early to make our reservation. To start, the buffet food at the theme park far surpassed all of the dishes they had at restaurant. This restaurant advertised itself as a fine dining restaurant and service from the front door was great and very courteous. I ordered a ribeye, medium rare, wife ordered sea bass, son also ribeye med well, and grandma fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp added. I decided against the 3000 peso aged ribeye. This was one of the most mediocre steaks I've ever had (mine was 1300 pesos or about 80$ US at this time). I believe they were 13 oz steaks. The cut was also about 1/2 thick, which at least for me is not the right way to cut a good ribeye (I've typically gotten 1.5" to 1.75" from Costco or a ribeye cap steak when you can find them). For a place that I thought was a steak house, this was a piece of meat I could find from grocery outlet for 10$ or so. It was cooked medium rare as requested, but flavor was pedestrian for the price. My wife was equally disappointed with her fish, which they were nice enough to comp. For grandma's fettuccine they charged a full side dish of shrimp, which I suppose is ok... but again nothing special at all. We got sides of roasted vegetables, macaroni and empanadas for appetizers. Sides are all al a carte or separate. Unless you got one of the specials (again around 3000 pesos for what I wanted) no sides were included. The empanadas were essentially fried tacos. I don't know that the vegetables had any seasoning at all. The macaroni was fine for a kid, it's melted cheese and noodles.... They were nice enough to bring some complimentary chocolate dipped strawberries and we got a slice of chocolate cake. The cake was fluffy. No big complaints per se. My other observation or critique is that we loaded 2/3 of the food ourselves into to go boxes. Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with normally boxing my own food, but given the price and impression the establishment tries to give, I was thoroughly underwhelmed that we mostly had to do this ourselves. I hate giving such a critical review, but this place was way overpriced, service was far below the standards for what's portrayed and not a single dish gives any wow factor at all. This in fact the most underwhelming meal my family had in our entire 7-8 trip to the area and a few coastal towns further south. Irregardless of price, the food was bland. As my wife just said to me after reading this, it felt more like outback steak house or applebees, but triple or quadruple this price. read more

Our sever Saul and management was very helpful and worked very hard to meet our expectations. As much as I want to recommend, I cannot recommend the ribeye. It was not appealing when it arrived. Vegetable for two was six short strips of asparagus. The mashed sweet potatoes reminded me of Gerber's baby food. Others in my party shared a similar experience. Super disappointing! Ambience is very nice and tees up for what should be an experience to remember, but sadly the food is a big let down. My hubby and I dined on the berry salad and portobello mushroom for starters. He says his salad was the best part of the meal....it was good. My mushroom was ok. Small, some strange sweet sauce on the plate. All in all, a not bad but not great start. Then the entrees and sides. Hubby ordered the New York steak cooked medium. I ordered the shrimp entree. For sides we both ordered a baked potato and I also ordered the creamed spinach. Hubby's steak was dry and tough. To me, it also looked medium well in temperature. Bummer to have a bad steak at a steak place!! My shrimp was bland and over cooked. Shrimp were rubbery. Sauce had little to no flavor and was watery. Had to add salt and pepper. Cherry tomatoes and spinach leaves were dropped onto the plate with the shrimp. Not sautéed. Dish was strange and tasteless overall. Now, it's hard to mess up a baked potato, right?!? Potato was not a russet baking potato but a boiling potato. I'm pretty sure it was microwaved. Not fluffy on the inside. Broke into chunks. UGH!! Creamed spinach was decent but sweet. We opted to not have dessert there. Only thing that sounded good was the apple dessert and a note on the menu says it takes 20 minutes. Would have been nice to know that ahead of time. Server was fair. Not super engaging, not very attentive, just fair. It's a real bummer of an experience. We wouldn't recommend trying it. read more

First off, the waiter Mauricio was amazing therefore the one star. Second, they don't know how to cook a steak here, the tomahawk we ordered was for a medium rare and it came over cooked. We told our waiter and the manager Diana came and we explained to her about the steak. She offered to make another one, waited almost 30 minutes for the steak and when we got it, it came already off the bone and cut in slices. we thought that was weird because why would they cut it off the bone before they show it to us. She explained that so it can cook faster, as we dig in into our steak the center was straight cold. They offered to cook the steak more but at this time we were over with waiting and them risking the chance of overcooking it. We just don't know if they switched with another cut of meat that was a lower cut than the tomahawk ribeye we got. So be careful if you ever order the tomahawk. Besides that, the only good thing here was the clam chowder soup. For the price we pay we end up cooking our own steak and wasting time. We are staying here at Villas de Palmar and I wouldn't waste your time making a reservation here. We had a wonderful meal at Davino's and the service here is not nearly as good. There must be a seniority thing where the Davino waiters are on top of their game. They hustle and really make your dining experience top notch. The Casona crew spends a lot of time talking amongs themselves with the hosts and rarely makes it around to your table. Now let's get to the menu. we are all inclusive and the majority of their menu is at a premium extra price. They don't even have a steak with a none in it on the non- premium cost. we were really disappointed with this meal. so we got the short ribs and tenderloin. absolutely no flavor! we had to ask for salt/pepper and some sauce. read more

AMAZING STEAKHOUSE FOR RESORT!! I live in NYC and was impressed with the quality and presentation of our food here. My boyfriend and I had dinner here twice during our 4 night stay. Definitely recommend the tuna carpaccio, the dressing is so so delicious. We also had the clam chowder and steak tartare. The clam chowder is interesting and a little sweet. Steak tartare has a lot of vegetables like cucumber which I've never had before. I had the NY strip which had the perfect amount of fat for me and my boyfriend had the filet mignon our first visit then skirt the second I think. Definitely get the pepper sauce, it's so creamy and flavorful. For sides we had mashed potatoes, cream spinach and asparagus, all of which were lovely but the potatoes are super creamy and no lumps at all which I loved. Fine Dining- great steakhouse- the kind you wanna wear a good dress for. We arrived as a walk in - they do not take reservations except for parties or elite members. We had a small wait at the bar around the corner from entrance and it went by quickly with cool drinks. After we were called in we sat at a table for too near a window. Our waiter was wonderful "Manuel" and he provided exceptional service to us. He shared what wines would go best and was a great guy. Service and food were all 5 star! We started out with a wonderful glass of wine and a great selection of breads that included regular butter and "cherry" butter that went well and paired to what we ordered (we both ordered filet mignon and baked potatoes) to start we had Tomato salad and Caesar salad we also had 1 French onion soup which in itself was a meal. Steaks were prepared well but my husband's steak was a little too rare (he ordered medium rare) send back was seamless fast and gracious. We enjoyed dessert of a shared creme Brûlée with coffee American and everything was truly delicious. We also enjoyed the live Saxe player which played while we dined. We visited the restaurant again during our second trip to Villa del Palmar. I requested a special desert to celebrate my husband's birthday when I made reservations. Obviously, there comments section was ignored because there was no offer of anything to celebrate even after I mentioned that we were celebrating his birthday. My husband enjoyed his slow cooked beef dinner. I was not pleased at all with my dinner, but I didn't want to ruin the evening with complaints. My steak was ordered medium, but cooked well and it was TOUGH and lacked flavor. Very disappointing to visit a popular steak house that could not properly prepare a steak. I'm not accustomed to sending food back so I tried to enjoy, but I wasn't able to eat more than 2 bites. I also had a not so great Caesar salad and a baked potato that was loaded with tons of butter. I needed water refills, but our waiter never visited our table once we received our food . He returned to deliver our check. I was starving when we left the restaurant so I had a pizza delivered to my room. I was beyond disappointed with my experience at STK. I decided to visit the Italian restaurant for desert. We had an amazing assortment of deserts and a wonderful table presentation to celebrate my husband's birthday. Best part of our evening! read more
