Excellent Thursday evening dinner. Friendly staff make you feel welcome. Great prices. Fresh and flavorful. Tostadas special (3) not pictured were delicious. Loved my shrimp dish. Complimentary black beans with chips to start are always the best. Also, beside a special menu, they had really good daily deal specials on the wall. Fabulous food and margaritas! We were staying a few doors down and decided to eat here just because it was so close. The host and server were very friendly and attentive. The food was great. All 3 of us ordered something different and loved each dish. Portions were big and the price was very reasonable. The place is very small and has some outdoor seating. We sat inside because it was a little chilly out. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 was just that the music was way too loud for such a small place. I know it makes me sound old, but I could not hear our soft spoken server at all. We would definitely come back again next time we are in the area. read more

I had a burrito, while my dining companions had a burrito bowl and a mashed potato pizza with a Mexican twist. Portions were hearty and felt like a great value. Every dish was flavorful and cooked just right. We were stuffed and didn't have any room for dessert, but that's definitely something I have my eye on for next time! We found the service to be warm, friendly, and inviting. While the space wasn't huge, it should comfortably accommodate larger groups. They do offer alcoholic options such as margaritas and sangria. Regrettably the margarita was unavailable, but I found the sangria flavorful nonetheless. This will definitely be my go-to for Mexican food moving forward! We were really excited to try this place based on the positive reviews & proximity to our house but unfortunately we had a bad experience. We were seated inside & the server taking our order was very nice as were the rest of the staff. Unfortunately, after 40 minutes we still had no food or drink and others were coming in after us and they were being served their orders. We mentioned this to a staff member & our server came back and said he forgot to put in our order. When we finally got our order, about 30 minutes later (total of 70 minutes waiting) the tacos & guacamole were awful. Even the drinks were terrible. What a nice spot for Mexican food near the beach! I love the brightly decorated dining room here. We tried a variety of their menu, which features tacos, traditional Mexican dishes, breakfast, and even pizzas and American foods! Everything we had was delicious - I especially loved the mole poblano, nachos, and scrambled eggs with chorizo. When I found myself back in Milford today, I was excited to realize I could head over to La Catrina for another wonderful takeout lunch. Again, I had the veggie quesadilla and again it was delicious!! Both times, my food was ready on time and I was greeted by a friendly staff member. Now I want to go for a meal inside. Ordered the fresh guacamole and chips to start and for the main dish Amazing tacos Al pastor. Even in the middle of a Friday afternoon they provided great service and freshly made food. Fresh, fresh, fresh food! Delicious. The foods stands on its own with proper seasoning (NOT salty at all). Staff is so nice and friendly. Shrimp burrito bowl is delish. The shrimp are sweet and fresh. Chicken tacos are stuffed with white meat. Same with the chicken burrito bowl. The sauces are homemade and fabulous. I've been to the West Haven location a few times, including with large groups, and everything has always been excellent. I absolutely love the carne asada, which is a delicious feast of a meal. I tried the new spot in the Walnut Beach area in Milford recently and it was also fantastic. The owners, wait staff, and everyone here are lovely and so accommodating, and the diners were all thoroughly enjoying the experience and their meals. The decor is colorful, bright, and cheerful, and chips and black bean dip to start were excellent as well. I hope La Catrina remains at this spot (and remains in West Haven) for a long time. I live across the street and eat here about once a month. It's consistently good. They have friendly service, it's small inside but has a patio so in nice weather enjoy the sea air. I'm not Mexican but my neighbors are and they say it's authentic. If you want to bitch about too much or not enough salt, or paper napkins or other trivia, don't eat here. If you want good value, you like Mexican cuisine, and you want to dine at a local place where they care, then I recommend La Catrina. read more

Tried out LA Cantrina tonight. They didn't disapoint. They have seating inside and outside. The hostess and servers were very nice. Inside seating was nice, tables were spaced, so you weren't packed in. Had wide selection of food. The music was one but it wasn't loud. Had the beef burrito.
