Every time we visit Puerto Rico we make it here at least twice in two weeks. The food is typical Puerto Rico. Best of all you know it is good when all the locals come here. They give you a lot of food for your money so either share or prepare to take some home! If I have a complaint it is that the air conditioning is set high. Restaurant, Coamo, Puerto Rico. Why I haven't eaten before at La Ceiba, especially when it has been recommended to me so many times, I just don't know. I have gone to a number of restaurants along Hwy. 153 toward Coamo, so that gives me a point of comparison, and La Ceiba is by far the best choice. We went at peak hour Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. While the menu was fairly typical of local cuisine we ordered 3 mofongos (fried crushed green plantain that line a mortar) filled with carrucho (conch), carne frita (fried beef chunks) and churrasco (steak). This is the very first place i've eaten at that does not serve a dry, tough, overly salty carne frita; it was done to perfection. Same reaction with the churrasco as well as the carrucho. Your mofongo can be made of sweet ripe plantain or yucca and your choice of sauces, (I recommend al ajillo), and there are many other menu selections beside mofongo. The absolute best! Coamo is lucky to have La Ceiba right on its main thoroughfare. La Ceiba is an excellent spot to stop and dine with your family. We went in for lunch after our visit to Los Baños de Coamo. It is an outdoor spot so there are no windows and it's right on the road so you see the cars pass by. There is parking available. The waitress was polite and hospitable, the menu diverse and the prices excellent for lunch. We savored the surullitos, chicharones de pollo, mofongo vegano, chuleta frita and carne frita con tostones. We were impressed by the presentation of the plates and the flavors of the food. Definite repeat if we are in the area again. read more

After hitting the hot springs of Cuamo, a local recommended La Ceiba. The house specialty is mofongo, of which there are many varieties. This restaurant offers a full bar, a large outdoor patio seating, large TVs showing sports, and a private room for parties. They also have free WiFi, a rare amenity on this side of the island. Although there were lots of wait staff, service was on the slow side. Ordering a variety of finger foods, I went with a delicious mofongo that had the pork stuffed inside. Very good. The cocktails were equally delicious. The prices were decent and the place had a busy ambiance. Probably the best spot in the area. Parking is can be tricky if their lot is full. read more

A lovely pit stop on your way through the south side of Puerto Rico as you drive through curvy roads. Enclosed and with a/c, a humble spot with a hardy menu. Lots of appetizers such as surullitos, bacalaitos, frituras. Main dishes include chicken, fish, with rice, beans and salad. La Ceiba is one of my go-to spots while I'm in PR. Not only because it's close to home (Santa Isabel), but because the food is amazing! If you don't want to spend 1hr+ waiting for food in El Platanal (near by), I would suggest La Ceiba. The mofongo is great! My favorite though is the pechuga con salsa de setas (grilled chicken with mushroom sauce). Everything is really good and flavorful though and the beers are always ice cold. Clean facilities as well. If you're passing through, you should head to the Baños de Coamo, they are thermal hot springs that are amazing to soak in for a number of aliments. Or, if you just want to relax. read more

The food is extremely delicious and fresh. I ordered the Mofongo with chicken, the food tasted so good and you could feel the love they put into their dishes. They have like a mini bar area with a TV where you could go and see basketball games if you are into sports. The beers are very affordable compared to other places in San Juan. We work in Puerto Rico every year for at least 6 weeks. The hardest part is finding healthy food options anywhere in the mountains. This isn't necessarily healthy but it is a great mofongo spot with bustling bar. We ate the mofongo de mariscos (seafood) and arroz mapostaeo. It was delish and we would return. read more

Came here after visiting Banos de Coamo (hot springs) It was ok. Nothing you can't find everywhere in PR. It is in a prime spot as you enter the city so I think that's why it gets so much traffic. There is parking in back which is good. The mojito was delicious and strong! I had the mojito de parcha (passion fruit). Strongly recommended. The food was ok. Bacalaitos were not that great. I ordered the chillo (snapper) in creole sauce and they put something sweet in the sauce which I didn't like at all. The rice, arroz mampostea was really good. My dad ordered the taella and he said if was good. Gave it a 3. Their selections of beers is limited. Only GMO beers with the exception of Heineken. No craft beers or Stella. Still a nice experience but think next time I would try La Guitarra which was just down the street which I read is more affordable. I thought the prices in this place were a bit high and everything adds up cause all accompaniments are a la carte. read more
