Arriving in Puerto Rico late this afternoon. Want to try a local spot that's not a chain restaurant or fast food. I looked at reviews at this restaurant and they were good so I decided to give it a shot walked in immediately sat down. This is a Mom pop type restaurant. They've been here since 1969 family owned. My waitress was Tatiana. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommendations. The restaurant was clean and tidy I saw a couple sitting there celebrating their anniversary and all the staff is friendly and you can tell that it's a place that people come to again and again I will definitely be returning here read more

Fuimos un domingo para almorzar. No estaba muy lleno. Pedimos el tentáculo de pulpo para empezar. El pulpo estaba bueno. Vino acompañado de los platanares cortados largos (no acuerdo como le llaman). Para el plato principal me fui con la recomendación de la mesera. Ella me sugirió el cerdo ahumado, que al parecer es el plato que mas vende, aunque se venden como la casa del pollo ahumado. Lo pediátrica con arroz congri y yuca. Mi esposa se pidió el jarrete de cordero guisado con arroz y habichuelas y amarillos. Me gustó el arroz y la yuca. El cerdo estaba bueno aunque un poco seco. Estaba cubierto de un glaseado dulce. A mi esposa no le gusto mucho. A mi si. Me recordó de cerdo agridulce chino. Sin embargo no me encanto el plato. No se porque es popular. Have you ever had one of those restaurants that made you think "will this food truly be worth the trip to get here?" That was my experience rolling into Marcelo's after a near one-hour trip to get here. I will tell you, YES, it was worth the drive! You'll see me say this a lot, but this place was very much a Puerto Rican restaurant (you feel like family visiting for great food that you just happen to have to pay for). In fact, the owner came and shook our hands on arrival. Always a bit of a culture shock for me even having been around it for years now. The whole experience was very laid back. There were only a few tables in the restaurant while we were there, but we still received Grade A service. Then the food came. Dare I say, this was some of the best Mofongo I have ever had. The texture was perfect and so full of flavor. I personally had the lobster and mofongo and I highly recommend it! All in all, I will definitely visit this restaurant again and i recommend you do the same! read more

Second Visit to Marcelo and the experience was just as good as I remembered. Great service from the moment you walk in. Our waitress was prompt to take our order. The place is small and can get loud if full but that wasn't a problem for me. The food was amazing. I ordered Ropa Vieja (Cuban roast), Arroz Congri (rice with black beans) and maduros (ripe plantains). Very nice portion and everything was great. Warm buttered bread, empanadas de carne was fresh & juicy, the sangria was delish & to top off only $17 for that half pitcher that would have been a whole pitcher in NY, pork chop kan kan had lean portions & yummy fat with crunchy skin, the seafood paella was such a huge portion I took the leftovers back to hotel room & heated up as a snack with my older son....and we did not have room for dessert and that's a rarity for my husband LOL read more

Went to this restaurant, while on vacation, with my Uncle Anibal. The waitress was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and brought the food very quickly. My Uncle had Sopa de Frijoles Negros and fricase de tenera and I had the caldo gallego and the pollo ahumado. We shared a plate of sliced aguacate to go with the soup and the entree. Yummy. Marcelos restaurant has a special place in my heart because I was introduced to it by a very dear family member. It's been several years since I came last; now I live a bit far, like a couple thousand miles away... Today I went alone. Then experience was very good, as I remember it from the first time. I had the pork osobuco with a mix of sweet plantain stuffed with "mamposteao" rice. Flavor was delightful, meat fell off the bone and it paired beautifully with the rice and plantains. My appetizer was a crema of green plantain, which again was well balanced and delicious. In case you are wondering it tastes completely different from sweet plantains. Green plantain has more starch, like a potato but a richer flavor. I had a half bottle of Arzuaga red wine from Ribera del Duero which complement the food without being overpowering. The palate stays clean to enjoy the flavor of the food. As a desert I had a coconut flan (like a custard) and a cortadito coffee (like a machiato, espresso plus a drop of steam milk). Happy memories and a bit of nostalgia to go along with it. read more

Friday, March 13, 2020, became the fifth time that I visited Marcelo restaurant in Caguas. The plate of rice with shell fish was far from fresh. The paella was partly cold and partly warm as if they rushed a frozen dinner, that never heated well. I could not eat it. The lemonade I ordered was more like sugar with water and a packet of quick lemonade. My son ordered a mango frappe and was given a smoothie. He was unable to eat more than two bites of the dish he ordered. The waiter tried her best but I will never return and recommend that no one risk their lives with such horrific food. We still had to pay full price for a horrible dinner over our complaints. Do not try Marcelo's. read more

Excellent restaurant. On our 5 day trip to Puerto Rico we went here twice. The mofongo was the best. We were lucky enough to be here on a Wednesday when they had ossobucco. Really good. Same with the lamb chops. My daughter had the fettuccine carbonara and really enjoyed it. I highly recommend this place. read more
