We visited twice for our road trip. For our first visit, we picked up a croque monsieur for take-out as our lunch at COSI: Center of Science and Industry. The sandwich held up well and was plenty for our girls to share. For our second visit, we dined in for breakfast and tried the raisin pinwheel, pain au chocolat, spinach quiche, and coffee. My girls thoroughly enjoyed their pain au chocolat and did not share at all. The spinach quiche was silky with a flakey crust. It is likely one of our most memorable quiches. The raisin pinwheel had a very delicate, caramelized crust with the right amount of raisins. I enjoyed my coffee but I couldn't finish a cup during our stay. Super nice greeting and service from a staff willing to walk me through the offerings and how the order up front system works. Temptations at every turn. Opted for the Croque Monsieur and my breakfast companion one of the quiches. Tasty - perhaps a bit more time to crisp up more of the insides. Coffee options were French Roast and Columbian. Took an almond croissant and 2 enormous yet moist macaroons. Clearly a good place for informal business meetings, something my colleague and I were doing as were others as well. Flexible indoor and outdoor seating and definitely can accommodate larger groups fairly easily. And abundant free 3 hour parking behind the restaurant. If I had a quibble, it would be plastic cups for the water that was available next to the self serve coffee and plastic stirrers for the coffee instead of spoons. The French just wouldn't have the plastic and this restaurant that is otherwise real plates and silverware shouldn't either. Wasteful and downgrades the classier feel. read more

The atmosphere was nice, although I feel like that's the only positive thing I can say. 1. There are no clear directions as where to order or what to do. No one greeted us at the door so it made it a little difficult to get started. 2. A few people at my table got the breakfast platter, me included, and it was a measly 2/10. Potatoes are cooked with tomatoes and have no seasoning. Eggs are rubbery and flavorless as well. The sausage links were the size of my pinky finger. 3. Came on a Saturday after the farmers market for brunch. It's very cute and cozy inside. They have you order first before seating yourself. You also serve yourself coffee and water. We ordered at the register in the front and there was some confusion with how my friends and I were splitting our checks, as well as missing some of the pastries we had ordered. When our order was figured out we sat ourselves in a cozy back room. We had a number to let the servers know what tables ordered what, but it seems like there was some confusion as our table and the tables around us received the wrong orders. I had the eggs Benedict and my friends ordered the breakfast special. I ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon, but it came out with ham. I didn't bother asking for a change as there had already been so much confusion. It was still very good, the poached eggs were perfect and the hollandaise sauce was amazing. My friends said the breakfast special was also delicious. Overall it seemed a little disorganized but the food was still good. It also seemed to be on the pricier end, which I'm not sure was worth it. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! Quiet quaint little historic building. Feel like I'm dining in a beauty and the beast set. You walk in and order your meals and pastry at the counter. Most come with refillable coffee which you get yourself ( no waiting on a server to refill) the coffee is AMAZING! I got the breakfast special, a twice baked almond croissant and beignet. All where FREAKING TASSSTTTY! Hubby got a crossiant and sweet and salty. Not a huge menu BUT the perfect menu. The eggs were sooooo good and creamy almost. Really love the small business vibe of La Chatelaine. You go in, order your food, and sit down with a table number. They'll bring it over to you. (Fast casual vibes). Pour your own water to drink. They have a breakfast/lunch full menu in addition to tons of pastries and coffees. They're a breakfast and lunch only place, so make sure you aren't planning for dinner. Just one type of seating: sturdy, standard-height wooden chairs with sturdy wooden tables. They a bunch of two person and four person tables, and they have a few tables for group seating. (I think it maxed out around 8.) I don't remember any stairs to access anything. It's just street parking over here, so be aware. PROS: -It's cute in here. With tons of light wood and plants, the restaurant has clearly been around for awhile, but they've done a good job of making it feel open with lots of mirrors, plants, and natural light. They've added France-esque art around the place to add more of that French Cafe vibe, and it feels very homey and calming when you're in here. -The coffee was delicious -Located near a ton of the beautiful Dublin restaurants and stores. You're within a 5 block radius of a ton of other awesome places to stop in which can make La Chatelaine a great place to stop in for breakfast or lunch when in the area. CONS: -A couple people recommended this place as the best place to get Mac and Cheese in the area. We were really disappointed. I think it was homemade, but it tasted like Velveeta's cheese without the fatty "zing" that makes you want more of it. For two people who love Mac and Cheese, neither of us made it more than half-way through and left hungry. (Portion sizes ARE big here though!) -Ordering was surprisingly difficult. Some signage might help. There are two different cashiers. One only deals with bread and the other deals with all of your coffee/food orders. But you don't order from the coffee/food cashier either. You have to order from a person standing in-between both of them who takes your order, starts to make it, and hands a ticket to the food cashier to actually ring you up. It's similar to a Chipotle/Piada vibe, but the signage is not there to make it obvious - especially as all of this happens behind large cases of treats/breads/snacks with food back in the kitchen. Staff seemed a bit annoyed but tolerant of our misunderstanding of where to order. -Like, it's *really* serve yourself. You'll even need to grab your own silverware. It wouldn't be so jarring except it's up at the service counter on the other side of where you pay for your meal. Most fast casual joints (again, Chipotle, Piada, Noodles & Co) keep all of this away from the main ordering area to reduce congestion and confusion. -The bathroom was out of paper towels, soap, AND toilet paper. This is my second review of La Chatelaine Dublin. I live in Dublin, I love the food here, love the location, and spend most weekends in Bridge Park so I would be a regular here if only the service was not so terrible. Every time we come here we say it will be the last because it's always a negative experience. The ordering process at the counter is not a good one - the menu is way too complex for this and the people behind the counter are consistently not just unhelpful but rude (or speak no English whatsoever, but always one of the two). Getting anything like a condiment or refill after you order is basically impossible. The young French woman that helped us Saturday was so snotty we almost just left without eating. Pros: -cute location -briquette was really good (flavorful and good texture) The artichoke and cheese was a great combo! -breakfast (eggs & bacon) was good (kiddos loved it) Cons: -the Napoleon was odd (the pastry and custard were good) but the topping (chocolate icing)? The icing was super sweet and clashed with the dessert entirely. Stopped in for the first time on a dreary Friday for lunch with coworkers. Inside was warm (there's a fireplace!) and very pleasant. We didn't want to go back to the office! To order your meal it's part cafeteria style where they plate and give it to you and part order at the counter for anything that required heat/cooking or more time to put together. While the lunch combo is a great deal (sandwich, Caesar salad, and soup for $14.95), I ordered a hot Turkey and Swiss baguette and a side Caesar salad ($20). The salad was delicious, it's mixed in a big batch behind the counter. My sandwich was also very good however it took over 15 minutes for delivery to my table. And save room for desserts! Came here for lunch today with a friend. I love there 3 combo - soup, salad and sandwich for $14. There is an extra charge if you add cheese to your sandwich. Everything was delicious though! Lovely lovely breakfast with a friend here at La Chatelaine in historic Dublin Ohio. There is free public parking in a lot and street parking. We were greeted nicely and I ordered the spinach omelet. I mentioned wanting the whole wheat sourdough toasted with no butter as well as no cheese in the omelet . The man suggested that perhaps I wanted it cooked in nonfat spray ? Yes!!! Thank you! The food was delicious and nicely plated. The interior is gorgeous. Lot of stone, a beautiful bar with deeply colored wood and artwork of varying types on the walls which all worked together for a cheerful but not giddy atmosphere. The restaurant was pleasantly full for a Friday morning. Although I ordered my food " skinny" there is a vast abundance of baked goods, pastries and breads to take home. All other items were hard as rocks. The creams had even hardened inside the cakes. They are serving old bakery items. It was extremely disappointing and embarrassing to gift someone old sweets. A complete waste of money. You can see in the one photo that it's so old and dry that the cream has cracked. Also, the ladies working there couldn't even tell me what flavor the big tart was. I arrived at this charming bistro with a big appetite for something special, and I was not disappointed. I asked for Beef Burgundy, and it was even better than expected. Succulent, slow roasted carrots, mushrooms and shreds of caramelized onions accompanied tender beef in the delectable broth that the dish is known for. I expected a small baguette, but instead received a deep square of puff pastry filled with mashed potatoes. I can and do make beef burgundy myself, but this is extremely good. Treat yourself to a late lunch here as this location is closed at dinner (too bad!). The wisteria is already blooming on the top of the pergola above the large outdoor portion of the cafe. The restaurant has weekly weekend special pastries. Last weekend, they did a meringue filled with passion fruit custard & topped with fresh passion fruit. I am a big fan of passion fruit, and I feel it is not very common to see fresh ones here in Columbus. So I am very glad they used it for the dessert. The refreshing and sourness from the passion fruit helped balance the sweetness of the meringue. I also got two savory dishes as well. Indochine Baguette Sandwich (French-Vietnamese fusion): those braised short ribs were on point! Poutine: French fries with their own Spaghetti á la Gigi sauce & melted Swiss cheese. I feel the prices of some special dishes were little higher than I wanted, but I still look forward to going back to try other pastries and food. read more

Let me start by saying I usually love La Chatelaine. They have the best tomato soup and I love their breakfast sandwich on a croissant. However I went here with my fiancé and he got the sweet and salty and it is laughable. The French toast that came with it was the tiniest piece of bread I've ever seen and tasted terrible. I've never had dry French toast before. But man this was truly awful. And that they charge 17 bucks for two terrible pieces of French toast and some scrambled eggs and bacon. Avoid that at all costs. The breakfast sandwich was delicious as always. I'll come back for my favorite tomato soup but the laughable French toast left a bad taste in my mouth in more ways than one. read more

Good food and even better service! Somehow our order got mixed up and one of my friends received a wrong menu on the table. The staff who took our order came to our table herself and sorted everything out for us. We got to keep the item we did not order and they brought us the correct one pretty quickly. I've been to so many restaurants that staff instantly gets into some sort of defensive mode or gets annoyed or even try to blame the costumers. But it was almost refreshing to be treated so well especially during such sensitive time. I hope to come back here and try some of their dessert menus next time. read more

Oui loved La Chat! I meant *we* -- not oui -- pardon my French. We stopped by for a quick lunch at this casual French bistro/bakery and tried the $8.50 lunch combination. You get your choice of soup (French onion or tomato basil that day), a petite Caesar salad with housemade croutons and freshly grated cheese, and a hard roll sandwich with either ham, turkey or housemade hard salami. Being a lover of Caesar salad, I loved mine here which had a housemade dressing and was very fresh. I also loved the *pain au chocolat* (chocolate croissant) which I ordered separately, as they have a patisserie area separate from the lunch counter display. It was nicely moist, not overly buttery or flaky, and perfect when warmed up. Much better versus the famous Pistachia Vera, in my opinion. For the sandwich, I would have preferred a baguette sandwich as the hard roll was a bit too hard for me. The salami was nice because it wasn't too hard and had great fresh flavor. I would definitely return next time I'm in town and try their quiches, which are on display in their lunch counter, and grab another pain au chocolat. Oui! TIP: You can place orders for King's cake now, if you would like to celebrate the festival after Christmas known as Epiphany. Don't eat the charm! read more

Stopped by here for brunch before a hair appointment nearby. I've heard all about their pastries from a friend but not much about their food so wasn't sure what to expect. The breakfast sandwich on a croissant was calling to me so I went for that. The sandwich itself was the highlight, the eggs were amazing and the combination with the buttery croissant was soooo good. What I didn't like is the price of it, $14 dollars for just the sandwich and a cup of coffee. As someone who doesn't really like hot coffee I wish I could get it without and save myself the money. It doesn't really come with anything on the side, just a little salad. I chose to try their breakfast potatoes and I really didn't like this. It's hard for me to not like a potato but these seemed to have been cooked with tomatoes which either isn't listed on the menu or I didn't see it. I absolutely despise tomatoes and they added an unpleasant sour flavor to the potatoes. I wouldn't get those again. Another bright shining spot is the pastry case. A few things were sold out but the pastries I got were all absolutely delicious. Been in Columbus a while but recently tried this place finally! There's definitely so many options from soup, salad, sandwiches to coffees and desserts. I ended up getting a couple pastry options with the quiche, along with a cappuccino. It was definitely perfectly flaking and super flavorful. The coffee was a great drink to have with for a brunch/bfast option. The seating is plenty throughout the whole place indoor and outdoor. The service was very kind and nice as well.
