The cakes are delicious as are the tamales. Best horchata around. Still have to try more food there.

I keep passing by and seeing this bakery so I decided to go there for lunch since it says they sell tamales. I arrived and noticed the bakery was fully stocked with every kind of Mexican bread and also they sell tortas. I decided to have a torta cubana instead of a tamal. While the guy cooked my food I started grabbing some bread to take home. The first one I grabbed was soft but then I went to grab a different kind and it hard as a rock. I checked every bread I was going to grab and they where hard. This bread is not fresh and not even a day old. This bread has to have a couple days since it has been sitting. I had grabbed a couple breads so I had to purchase them as soon as I got out the place I threw them out. I get to work to eat my lunch and the torta has a weird smell so I opened it up and it was rotten onion and tomato with dark brown aguacate. Then the ham or whatever it is had a layer of grease. I didn't eat it. I wasted close to 30 bucks for this horrible food. I don't recommend buying anything here. The place was super clean and had a bunch of employees but how are you going to be serving this rotten food and hard bread. Whoever owns this place has to see what's going on here because maybe your going to loose customers and if you are happy with what your selling it's super sad and this business ain't for you. read more

Just in from Texas and had to bring cakes for two birthday parties on the same day! Picked two Tres Leches cakes One mocha and one vanilla and they were delicious! We had an unexpected surprise by the later of flan in the cakes - everyone enjoyed. Also had the tamales and they were tasty, too. Will be back and the family and friends will, too. read more

I went buy some Mexican bread to take to my 88 year old mom today 8/17/2020. While visiting my mom we noticed the pan dulce was stale tasting and hard and when I went to eat my pumpkin empanada I broke it open and it had mold in it. I threw everything else away. Took picture if you don't believe me. Will never go back. Hope no one gets sick from the pan dulce. YUCK!! Will never go back again. If I could give it a zero i would. read more

This is a decent enough go to and their sandwiches are pretty great, however I don't think I've ever gotten a correct order from them (I've been ordering from GrubHub). I would completely skip their tamales as its 99% masa flour and a few meat nugs as filling. I think they're really on the cusp of a great thing if they can get their orders right and just tweak their food a little bit further to bring it over the top. read more

I placed an order for pickup today and I was not happy. To start, I came in advance to place the order for 4:00. I get here right on time and they do not have the order prepared. I'm waiting for the order, and I come to find out they had charged me twice the amount of tamales I ordered. They charged me 30$ more than they should have and I ended up waiting almost 30 minutes just for them to see what they can do. Do NOT place an order for pickup especially if you need it on time. And check your receipts! It's corrupt. read more

I first had their rajas con queso tamales 3 years ago and I have not stopped thinking about how absolutely delicious they were. So, I went again 2 weeks ago and bought all the ones they had made. The masa is so flavorful and does not compare to any tamales that I've had in the past. In the past, very bland flavor with the masa and that would set the tone for a bland tamale, but La Chicanita's tamales, at least the rajas con queso, are bursting with flavor. Advice: call ahead to see if they have the tamales that you want because I drove all the way there one time, and they did not have any. Such wonderful, kind workers! I highly recommend them to anyone!!! Next time, I'll take a picture, but I'm always starving and so excited to eat them that I always forget. Buen provecho! read more

I've been here 2 or 3 times & I always get old hard bread. Dont know when they make it, or if I just keep getting unlucky but I have not had a good experience with this bakery. read more

I totally agree with Leslie L.'s review. I wasn't going to add a review but now that I am not the only one with bad experience at La Chicanita Bakery, I felt an obligation to share my experience since it was very similar. I called to place an order for 2 dozen tamales to pick up. 1 -veggie (rajas queso) and the other chicken. I didn't check them before leaving but I did ask the lady who handed them to me and charged me for them if they were "12 rajas and 12 chicken?" And she responded with firm yes. I took these later to a 1.5 hour drive trip out of town to eat later. It turned out I didn't get any veggie (rajas cheese) whatsoever. Both 12 dozen tamales given to me were chicken. I could not eat dinner that evening. I later returned to the store to return the un-eaten tamales to obtain a apology and refund and it turned out to be a fighting match with the young boy that was stationed at the register. I explained this is the second time I have ordered tamales, ahead of time and the tamales I ordered were missing/replaced with another type of tamale. He said that person who charged me wasn't there anymore and wasn't responsible for her error. Well, the boy didn't want to refund me at first until I put up a fight. The young boy wanted to see my receipt. Please note if you are not given a receipt, make sure to ask for it. I realized I wasn't asked and now I am stuck trying to prove to the boy that I purchased these tamales at La Chicanita Bakery in Crest Hill. I finally showed him my online banking as proof. This still wasn't enough, he said he would have to reimburse me for the entire order 24 tamales and then charge me separate for the 12 tamales he said, "that I have already eaten". So he handed me one receipt for the credit back to my card and then just stood there waiting. Low and behold he wanted me to swipe my card for the 12 tamales but didn't tell me that is what he was waiting for. Little did I know he could credit my card back but didn't have my card information to charge it again. So then he started on a rant about me not wanting to pay for the 12 tamales. I had to raise my voice because I felt I was being treated unfairly and unjust. I was the one who received the wrong order and still didn't get an apology. Instead he started to blame me and raise his voice with a nasty rude tone. Buyer beware! read more

Best churros! Ordered 3 dozen assorted for a party in December, and everyone loved them. Walking into this bakery itself was a treat- smelled heavenly. Surprised by how many items were available. Large, clean, well-stocked with choices. Will have to come back and order the fresh juices. read more

First and foremost it is a bakery. You walk in and are assaulted by shelves full of pastries, cakes and breads that look absolutely amazing. I came here for lunch though, not just pastries. I had a tamale, which was very good, and their tacos, which were AMAZING! The vegetarian tacos were a mix of cactus, pineapple, spinach, onions and cilantro. They were delicious, and cooked to order right in front of you. I will definitely be back. read more

I wanted to like this place so bad, the first time I ordered everything was great. I came into grab a couple of things and was just baffled at how many times they asked me to repeat my order while making my torta. While waiting an Uber eats driver comes in and they tell her to wait, meanwhile another worker comes in and tells the other worker the driver can wait- which was ok with me because it meant me getting my food faster but I knew the person who ordered the food would be pissed. Oh well not my problem right. So fast forward till today when I placed another simple yet complicating order . I ordered corn on a cup with no chili and boom I got chili and the corn was cold and watery as if they just cut the corn in the cup with all the water dripping into the cup. All our food was good and almost everything was wrong I mean simple things like bread with just cheese and beans nope they wanted to add jalapeños. The torta had beans when I asked for no beans the plain tacos not only came with onion and cilantro but they also added a cup of both on the side and they missed a taco. I normally would take this on the chin as a just not my thing but since this was a nearly $50 order for 4 tacos a torta 2 tamales 2 drinks and 2 corn in the cups that came cold I had to hit them with the review. The reason the food came cold was because my Uber driver had to wait when he got there for everything- i was the guy on the other end ‍ . They need to really manage this place right it has great potential. Also there tamales are all masa and hardly any meat. read more

I had spent all day looking for a specific cake for my father and lastly I found out. After going to my first choice it was closed so I tried La Chicanita. It was a great experience and it was a cool little bakery. The staff was friendly and I was in-n-out in a matter of minutes. Will definitely come back again read more

We just left the bakery and absolutely loved it. Prices are reasonable, they have traditional Mexican bread, sweet bread, tortas, fresh juice, tamales, and more. Definitely recommending it to my family and friends. The people who work there are super nice so that's a huge plus. read more

This is the nicest panaderia I've been to since moving from south Texas. It's big, bright, and very clean. The staff is friendly, and they speak Spanish and English. I've only been there once so far, and I've tried the conchas, maranitos, and empanadas. They have a great variety of goodies, and I could have went crazy in there, because everything looked so good! My only complaint is the maranito needed a bit more sugar. I'll definitely visit again though. read more
