Chocolate and churros. ¡Sí, por favor!
Walking into La Churre, you'll notice that there's no menu on the wall. That's because they do pretty much one thing and they do it well: chocolate con churros. Five medium sized churros, one cup of melted chocolate, one packet of sugar. The price was a reasonable €4, tax included. Credit cards are accepted. Apparently they also sell drinks, but we didn't ask about those.
The churros came out warm and crispy. They weren't glazed with sugar, but that's what the sugar packet is for. Some people might not like this, but I found it refreshing that a churro could be good without needing to be covered in sugar.
The chocolate was the right consistency for dipping the churros into without being runny. It wasn't too rich but still tasted good.
The older lady running the place was friendly and accommodating, especially when it became clear that my Spanish is pretty bad. She probably understands English, but I tried to make the effort. Since this neighborhood is not as touristy, the eateries here are more popular with locals than with tourists.
So if you don't mind getting away from La Rambla and the tourist spots, walk on down to La Churre and give the churros a try. read more
