It was a super duper hot day when I was in Chelsea and so I had to try the classic La Cigale! I got a large bowl to share with three flavours - mango sorbet, raspberry champagne and cassis lemon cheesecake. To my surprise, the lemon cheesecake won me over, it was not overly heavy and had a great amount of tartness. I also enjoyed having one.cream based flavour amidst the sorbets , the mango one being a close second with a very deep and natural tasting mango flavour almost like a freshly squeezed mango smoothie. Unfortunately I couldn't taste the champagne undertones too well in the raspberry sorbet but I still liked it since I'm a fan of raspberry! Overall, the line moved reasonably quick despite there being many folks and the flavours felt natural and authentic to what their respective fruits tasted like. We loved it! First off there is a line, but don't be intimidated, it goes quickly and there are fun games to play along the way (like an oversized jenga and connect four). The service was so kind and sweet. They were patient and helpful in making my order. They also served the ice cream up super fast. You pay and it's done a few minutes later. It was fast. The servings are big, so be prepared to come hungry! I felt like I was at the Disney of Ice Cream parlors! We sat outside in the shade, there are so many places to sit here. And it was incredible. Our daughter got a Brownie Surprise that was the perfect amount of coffee/chocolate/brownie it was SOOOO GOOD! And I had a mint ice cream sundae that was just so minty! I would give this 5 stars in a blink... never disappointed in any flavour... always worth the line and worth the wait.. they have lovely decor and flowers all around which makes the wait whole lot fun. Unfortunately during the COVID time they eliminated their seating area ( which was always outdoor so not sure why) but there is a public park right across the street that has benches and you can sit there and enjoy the treat. Folks we have a winner on our hand for ice cream. After a long trek which involved getting lost and then walking roadside for a walk that lasted longer than needed boy this place is a sight for sore eyes. So after having supper and a pint we decided to grab an ice cream. The lineup was long (15-20 min) which is a good sign IMO. There was just a grab and go option due to the pandemic. I settled on the mocha caramel and strawberry and sour cream combo. The Caramel hits the spot for sure strawberry and sour cream hmm I have had better. Anyways its a welcome relief to find a place that's not a tourist trap in this area. Definitely give them a try if you are in the area. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. Now hear me out: I usually give very harsh reviews of places but I can't say one bad thing about this establishment. From the service to the food, everything here is perfection. I have a gluten allergy, and the staff are great with it. They offered to get me ice cream from the back room that hasn't been scooped from, to prevent cross contamination. This is one of the only places that does this and so I feel very cared for and safe eating here. They also have gluten free ice cream cones! Not to mention, they have a huge variety of different ice cream flavours, they are always unique and interesting, and you will not be disappointed. I ended up getting plain vanilla once, not expecting much but let me tell you, this ice cream was insanely good, even for only being vanilla! Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of icecreams, but since my mom wanted one and there was a long queue to get inside, I decided to get a treat myself. The shop has a huge selection of flavours and you can combine them (two scoops) in a cone or a cup. I got lemon and rum-n-raisin while my mom got maple-walnut and chocolate-something on waffle cones. It was heavenly. We sat down in the backyard on fake (plastic) muskoka chairs. You do have to pay a bit and stand in a queue, but I think it's worth it. read more

I've been a few times and have been impressed each time, by the friendly service and the quality of the ice cream. La Cigale isn't cheap, especially if you get the ice cream with the delicious home made waffle cone, but it is worth it. My favourite flavour is their strawberry and sour cream. It's not like any strawberry ice cream I've had before and is simply delicious. When available, the chocolate Guiness is also a delight, with a rich chocolate flavour and a hint of Guiness. My only complaint is that they can be inconsistent with serving sizes. My first two times there, I received generous sizes with the waffle cone. The third time, I got two very small scoops of ice cream that were hidden if you turned the cone around. Wasn't impressed but I'll chalk that up to the server just scooping too lightly. There will be lines on hot summer days, so be warned. They have nice and comfy chairs outside for you to sit on and enjoy your ice cream, and a play area for kids. The ice cream is fantastic but the charm of La Cigale's setting puts it over the top. The liquorice ice cream is the best I've had and they were kind enough to check with me that I really liked liquorice before serving. They were also accommodating of an allergy by using a sanitized scoop when asked. But most of all, the country setting and the lovely garden out back with generous and comfortable seating was the cherry on top. A true gem in Old Chelsea! I ended up here on the recommendation of Vanessa D. We ventured in after a beautiful trip to O'Brien beach at Meech Lake and on that beautiful, sunny afternoon everything was amazing. The ice cream tastes made my mouth so happy! So good! This is a little gem discovered accidentally on my way to pink lake trial. By looking at the lineup was a bit curious to know what's going on! When figured it was an ice cream plans I was on the clouds. Decided to give a try and ever since have been addicted. Had no excuse to drive from west end of Ottawa atleast once a week. The best ice cream ever. La Cigale is close to the national park in Chelsea, QC. It is easy to find. There is a beautiful garden and back yard where you can sit and relax while eating your ice cream. I even saw a real 'cigale' when I was there, standing on the fence hanging out. You can sample different flavors and then take the hard decision of narrowing it down to only a couple. I suggest trying their delicious home made waffle cone! They have a variety of other treats like milkshakes, banana splits, this brownie one that sounds amazing, but I have not tried them yet. The ice cream is just so delicious and tastes very high quality home-made. Also, they have 1/2 liters or full liters of ice cream you can buy and take home so you can stock up until the next time you visit. Flavors change often, so if you've had a yummy one like Peanut Butter one time, it may not be there the next time you go. After my last binge of La Cigale ice cream, my butt got a little bigger and my pants a little tighter. I have no regrets about my extra flab & de-railed diet and would drive for hours to come here and satisfy an ice cream craving. It is worth every calorie.
