Some of the best Mexican food for some time now. Just driving back from Florida home and fishing to stop in Salem, IL. My brother wanted Mexican food so asked for recommendations and this place came up twice. The meals were so good they reminded me of trips to Mexico itself. Sat outside on the covered patio for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Service was great. Young boy served the water and got refills and did the register. He was very mature and did great. I assume that his father is the owner/server and he was friendly and attentive. Chips were average, salsa was good. Food was good and reasonably priced. The bathroom was super clean and nice. They served me rotten vegetables.... Need I say more. They took the meal off my big but come on!!!! Rotten carrots, Cauliflower, and broccoli in the California chicken. Not particularly clean in here. Chips were ok. Service WAS good. No horchata but that is hard to find. read more

There was a little trouble at first, my waitress was not fluent in English and didn't know what caffeine-free meant when I asked if they had any sodas that were caffeine-free. She had to get another waitress to take my order. Other than that, I enjoyed the food. I had Carne Asada. The steak was excellent, not like a piece of shoe leather (which has happened to me at some other Mexican restaurants in other cities) the beans and rice were not overwhelming the plate, like some others do, trying to make it look like a lot of food. There were three nice big slices of steak on the plate with just the right amount of sides. I really enjoyed their chips, which were warm when they arrived at the table. The salsa was excellent also. La Cosina is an amazing Mexican restaurant. It is better then El Rancherito by far. The staff is amazing and the owners are very nice.

I can't believe that I am only the second review because the place was full on a Tuesday night. I came with little expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It has a nice atmosphere, the service was good and staff was pleasant. I really enjoyed my meal. I believe it was called Padela. Not sure about the name, it was something I haven't had before. Like a fajita it was steak, chicken and shrimp with onions and peppers except it was also combined with rice and cheese mixed together. The tortillas were so soft and fresh you would think they are making them fresh in the back. I have no complaints. read more

Not the best dining experience we've had. The service was fine. I had tacos Al Pastor which was tasty. My daughters however ordered nachos with beef and nachos with grilled shrimp.
