Being from California (and on Ca time) my party didn't expect much for a late dinner in southern Illinois. Especially concerned about quality of Mexican food in this tiny town in Ill. Thus, we were hesitant...but hungry with little expectations. Upon entry, we were pleasantly surprised to hear Mexican music and Spanish speakers in the back. I had hope! Although the salsa was bland (& I avoid spicy), we shared the taco plate and a nachos. We were not disappointed. However, I recommend skipping the mojito entirely- I had to send it back. And yes, i know mojito is a cuban drink. They knew we weren't from town, lol- so we got to talking and learned they had roots from Mexico, then grew up not terribly far from me in Ca. He admitted they've had to adjust the way they make some items due to the mid-west clientele they have who aren't used to anything remotely authentic. read more

The atmosphere is like you are family. The owner/manager ( I don't know which he is) greets you while you are there. They promptly take your order and bring you chips & salsa with little bowls to pour the salsa in, so everyone at the table has their own bowl. The prices are good and the food is great! We usually end up with a to-go box because the servings are generous. read more

This is hands down one of the best places for Mexican food around, if not the best. Their service is insanely fast and matched with great food and super nice waiters and staff. Very good, authentic Mexican food. There are two Mexican restaurants in Fairfield- both tasty but with different things to offer. The restaurant is not very large so seating is more limited than the other Mexican place but, MAN, the food is packed with flavor! They have traditional Mexican dishes you can find on lost any Mexican restaurant menu but then they also offer unusual dishes, including ingredients such as cactus. Prices are very reasonable!! Parking is in a shared lot with other business in a small complex. This is definitely worth a try if visiting Fairfield!! read more

Danny and his crew make you feel like you're right at home when you eat there. His family and staff know people by name, and their favorite drinks and dishes. The food is always too notch and fast. I recommend the seafood molcajete. They show solidarity also when the community has tragedy or needs. I cannot say enough good things about this place and the people who run it! The service and food are wonderful!! We've even become good friends over the years. My family recently ordered takeout. They learned it was my nieces birthday and sent a special treat for her. However part of our meal didn't make it home and we live 15 minutes outside of town. Ordered fajitas and enchiladas on Friday July 25 for a take out order. The person who took the order was pleasant and helpful. However, the tips for the jar at the cash register do not go to the employees running the front register. The tips go to the owner! That should be stated up front on tip jar. Most people assume tips go to hourly workers and not the owner. A very shameful practice for the owner to accept tips given by customers who believe tips go to hourly workers. read more

The staff was very polite and the restaurant was clean that is a plus! However the food not so good. My husband and I shared the Molcajate which I order regularly at many Mexican restaurants. It is usually served in a hot sizzling volcanic dish and comes overflowing! I was very disappointed.
