The young male server was so friendly and very fast . ) I wish I could recall his name ) We had our drinks within a minute of ordering them . Our food also arrived after a short time and was delicious . I had the Pollo Ranchero and my husband had Carne Asada . The portions are large and cooked to perfection . Air hockey table (out of commission as of 9/10/2022). Engraved wood everything - tables, chairs, assorted decor. Somebody shelled out some beaucoup bucks to decorate this place. Definite small-town vibes here. Didn't eat, but the pervasively Spanish-speaking staff makes me think it's worth a shot the next time we're in town. 5 stars, no complaints. I've been looking for a an authentic Mexican restaurant in our area. Well I finally found one thanks to our Sister in Law. Thanks again Michele!!! I ordered a Margarita on the Rocks special. It was so good I had two. Also the tortilla soup. It was like something right out of one of the mining villages south of Monterey. Excellent!!! Then I ordered the beef street tacos in a soft flour shell. Of course with onions and cilantro. It was a good as anything I have eaten in Juarez or Chihuahua. Superb! Also got the guacamole. It was the creamy type and even though I don't usually like that type it was good. Los Amigos is 5 stars in my book and we will be coming back regularly. Don't miss this one! read more

Wonderful Mexican place - the service was attentive. The margaritas were to die for! Chips and salsa - the salsa was in a container, so you never ran out. Vegetables fajita was fabulous with lots of veggies - zucchini, mushrooms, peppers and onions. It was Not drowning in sauce and tasted grilled. Also had the Los Amigos enchiladas. Quite possibly the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever visited. Major league disappointment----I thought it was odd that a Mexican restaurant had philly cheesesteak on the menu. Then, I really thought it was odd when my fajitas came out, distinctly NOT sizzling on the cast iron platter. Methinks my dinner was philly meat dressed up in fajitas clothing. I enjoy the way this place is decorated. It's painted like a Spanish villa on the inside. Open floor plan with some booths and tables scattered about. Definitely not good for an intimate dinner. Chips and salsa given at the beginning are great. A small sign on the table notes only one basket of chips and one bowl of salsa per every two people. Haha! I had the burrito monterey with steak and chicken. The meat was seasoned very well and I actually enjoyed the insides of the burrito very much. I was disappointed in the shell. It was a if they just threw the insides (meat, onions, peppers, tomatoes) into a shell and sorta rolled it. It wasn't folded on the ends so there was no chance of picking it up without everything spilling out. It was drizzled in the delicious white cheese sauce. The beans were runny but great flavor. The rice was not good. It seemed old. I'm hoping it was an off day for the rice. My mom had a chimichanga that was just ground beef inside. She was hoping for a bit more pizazz in there. This is a new restaurant that is a "sister to one in Vandalia. We went for lunch and it took over an hour. Not optimal when you are working or have appointments. Our waitress couldn't answer questions about the menu. She said this was only her second day. I don't think she had ever waited tables and no one was helping/training her. The food was okay. The prices were a little high for what you get. We realized after we looked at the receipt later that they had charged us full price for the lunch portion selections. Overall not a great experience but the food was good enough we will try it again after they have been open a while. read more

We went as a family to Los Amigos and we set a reservation so we would t have to wait. When we arrived it took us 20 minutes to get our drinks. Once we finally got them we ordered and waited for our food for 45 minutes and when I got my food it wasn't even hot and half of our orders were incorrect. When we were finished and asked for our check it took us another 45 minutes. This was ridiculous any other Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to is so quick and easy. read more

I believe it is under new ownership. Strip mall mexican restaurant convincingly decorated as a villa on inside. Nice Mexican music. It is a family friendly kind of place. Eli was remarkably effective at managing the tables there, while really being engaging with the patrons. Chips and salsa were spectacular. Light crispy perfect salt. Fresh tasting salsa. I ordered the Pork tostada as a side. It was huge and could be a meal by itself. Eli reommended the veggie burrito. It was awesome. Whole pinto beans, green peppers, onions ooked to perfection. The kids has tacos and loved them! I sneaked a bite. They were juicy with moist chicken. Also one had a fajita quesadilla with a bit much onion. This plae was a real winner. The prices were very reasonable. If you are looking for a day trip from St. Louis this ould easily be paired with antiquing right next to the restaurant, or lake activities, or there is a corvette museum up the road. read more

I've been to Los Amigos at least a dozen times now and I appreciate that Vandalia finally has a decent Mexican place to eat. It's not always easy to get reasonably good Mexican in the Midwest. For a small town, local place, the atmosphere is good. It's one large dining room with a row of booths and a smaller, more private area off to one side. If you like going to the kinds of places where locals all stop at each other's tables to chat, you'll enjoy the vibe here. If you like antiques, you'll also find it very convenient to walk next door and shop. read more

The limited variety of food establishments in the area makes this place stand out. This is by far the worst Mexican food I've ever had. We stopped here on a road trip, and it was the only place open at 8:15 pm. The enchiladas had no flavor and were incorrectly prepared. The meat was not seasoned, the tortillas were soggy, there was very little cheese melted on top, and the worst mistake was that the enchiladas were never baked - a key step in their preparation. And this Shrimp and cheese Quasadilla was just that looked bad and tasted bland no shrimp tast way over cooked. Next time I want Mexican food I will drive somewhere else. I am not sure what has happened to this place in the past several months but it has suffered terribly. The service, which used to be spot on, is some of the worst in town. One day we just thought it was a particularly bad day but we gave them 3 more chances and each time, it was worse. The length of time between our order being taken and the food coming out of kitchen is getting unacceptable. On a couple of occasions, we just paid for our drinks and left. We just simply won't be back. There seems to be no apology or any acknowledgment that the service is so poor. When the food does come out, the temperature is borderline tepid, not sure it would pass the health inspector's visit. read more
