The workers were helpful. My Spanish isn't great and they were patient. My fiancé loved her strawberry matcha, my latte was really good as well. The avocado toast was just how we like it, plain, not a bunch of extra ingredients. The omelet was made with real eggs, and was good. Gorgeous location and well stocked. The lemon merengue tarts were perfect. The empanadas weren't - the pork was wet pink mess, and the spinach one was unappetizing creamy glob though fresh. 7 people working behind counter for 8 people in line still took nearly half hour still to buy some bread, and that's if you know which part of line to stand in. Eh, just okay. Filled with gringo expats and tourists so I think the staff isn't super happy about that. I only came in a few times on my last trip because my regular place was closed. Staff was unfriendly at best and downright rude other times. My Spanish is good and I was just getting coffee to go, so I'm not sure why the staff had to cop such an attitude. Whatever, there are lots of other places to get coffee around Centro, so I won't be back again. read more

Cute little french bakery near the center of San Miguel! We stopped by one morning and were happy to see that the line was fairly short as the couple of days before when we walked by there was always a long line which deterred us from grabbing something. We weren't hungry but decided to get a concha to go. We ended up getting a traditional concha which turned out to be great - really light and fluffy inside with an addicted sugar top which turns the bread into a nice treat. They also have breakfast plates and savory pastries as well with a few tables inside if you want to eat-in. read more

Stopped by here for a light breakfast. Reminds you of a European bread shop. The americano coffee and cappuccino were both good. I had the chocolate croissant and my wife the sausage empanada. The croissant was delicious and flaky and the empanada was stuffed with tasty sausage. We decided to finish with a lemon tart that was good. Panio is as close to a French bakery in France. I went multiple times while I was in San Miguel de Allende. BUTTER CROSSAINTS, PAIN AU CHOCOLAT, MADELINES were all delicious. My biggest regret is that I tried this on my last day of vacation. Do not make the same mistakes I did. I had passed by this bakery every single day of vacation, telling myself repeatedly to go in but never finding the right time because I had always just eaten when I was passing by. Finally, on my last day of vacation, I was seeking out pan de muertos and decided to give this place a try. It was the best decision ever. The bread was SO light and fluffy with a hint of lemon. Basically it was heaven on earth. I tried to go back later but the bakery was closed and I didn't have time to go again before my early flight the next day. If I'm ever in SMA again, I'll be sure to come here on day 1....and really every day I'm in SMA. read more

Oh, Panio. Why??? I walked past this little bakery about 20 times in the past three days and I tried avoiding going in because everything looked exquisite and I knew I wouldn't be able to control my cravings and impulses. I was strong for 3 whole days, but on the last day, I caved. I couldn't help it. I knew the chances of being back in this town any time soon would be slim and I just couldn't leave without trying the delicious pastries and baked goods. With that being said, I did what I do best, and that is buy a bunch of things to try. With a full tummy I can tell you I am not disappointed. I tried their brownie, caramel eclair, chocolate eclair, and butter cookies. The chocolate eclair was perfect with velvety chocolate inside and out and the caramel eclair was rich, but subtle at the same time. We ate at both their mall location for dinner as well as having lattes and treats in their centro location. Both were wonderful. The staff was kind and patient. I was especially impressed with the centro staff that handled the brusque Americans that, well...brusque is putting their manners gently and we'll leave it at that. However, the staff never batted an eye and was all smiles. The centro cafe is small with 4 tables and counter service, but the mall location has table service and a full menu. I love this place. They have the best croissants and chocolate croissants "pan de chocolate" outside of Paris. Also their French baguettes are quite authentic. I know because I lived in Paris for 7 years and I so loved their breads and croissants. Panio satisfies my craving for baguettes and "pain au chocolat". They also serve excellent coffee and quiches or for sweets they have numerous cakes and tartes. It is essentially a very fine bakery/patisserie but it has a few small tables where you can eat what you have ordered and drink your coffee or hot chocolate (Mexican style). Or you can take it out and sit in the Jardin which is a very short walk away. read more

We were just around the corner from the location on Correro and availed ourselves of muffins, loaves of bread, cookies, and the remarkable granola.
