Peppermint cardomom tea is delicious. The canele, I had not had this before so I had to try it. It is very good. It's caramelized on the outside with a custard center and slightly sweet. It was a nice surprise. The staff is knowledge about the products and friendly. Expect a line if going during the weekend but the line moves quickly. I've been hooked on my NESPRESSO coffee maker for over ten years! Really, nothing can take its place. When I travel (like now) I obviously don't pack it and haul it around with me. I must relegate myself to Starbucks or some reasonable facsimile. I don't like this option, but what am I to do? While in Chicago, this is not even a little problem; I've got Colombe Coffee across the street from where I stay on the Gold Coast. Their brewed coffee is just so damn good. It's rich and dark and has this roasty flavor. Served piping hot, I get mine with oat milk and a squirt of agave. It's totally my best way to start the day. In fact, when I'm sipping a cup of Colombe coffee, I don't give my "at home" Nespresso coffee a second thought. The people working there are very nice and professional. Cute & trendy cafe with baristas who love their jobs. The cashier was a cheerful girl who knew her coffee. I gave their Nitro cold brew + oat milk a try my first time here, and it ended up being my go-to drink the rest of my trip. I was here during Pride and the shop was ready with rainbow themed cups for the occasion. It definitely made my morning coffee run much more fun. As for the food and pastries, there were 0 vegan options which was a bit of a bummer but there were plenty of other neighboring businesses that had options. I get e-mail correspondence from "La Colombe Coffee" since I'm a fan of their draft coffee. When I was doing my morning routine, I came across one of the e-mails and found out that new "Oak Milk Draft Latte" was introduced and available in most of the locations. I happened to stop by the one in Gold Coast and ordered this new product. I'm not lactose-intolerant and have tried all of their draft lattes. The dairy-free oak milk draft latte was very smooth and met my expectation. The barista was kind enough to ask me if I wanted it with or without ice. This particular location is quite tiny. I saw only four (4) tables inside. They've got a couple of outdoor benches, but there are parks and shopping destinations nearby so it's appreciate to have my coffee to-go. Hubby has more opportunities to be out and about, and I will definitely share the news with him so that he can also give it a try. In addition, the CTA Clark/Division Red Line station is close by. I walked east on Division until I met State, then headed south until I saw Elm. It's next to "Bluemercury," a beauty supply store. It took me less then ten (10) minutes on foot. read more

It's hard to have one favorite coffee shop, living so close to Old Town, but this one is it. The service is awesome, they are very patient at explaining different drips and drafts. My favorite is their draft latte(hot), the reason I like it is because it has the right amount of sweetness. The Iced one is slightly sweeter, but still wonderful. I love coffee. I love non-big chain coffee shops. I obviously loved La Colombe based on those two criteria. Was staying down the street for work, and popped in here twice. Service was friendly, establishment clean and the coffee aromatic and delicious. I ordered unsweetened Mocha's both times with extra shots of espresso and they were so very tasty. The pastries looked divine on my first visit, so when I came back I ordered a croissant. Seriously scrumptious. La Colombe for the win. read more

What I like most about this La Colombe coffee shop is that it is social. Too many times these days you walk into a coffee shop where people are plugged into their headphones or are laser focused on their laptops--giving off that 'I-just-walked-into-a-library' feel. Here you will find people chatting at the "bar" with each other or with the coffee staff...giving off a totally chill and open vibe. For the coffee, I have had the cold brew from the tap or just regular cup of joe. Both are fine in taste and without the bitterness that's usually akin to a Starbucks blend. Draft cold brews are also sold in cans, which are a hit for only $3.00. I can drink one of those at anytime of the day and still make it to sleep at a reasonable hour. I stopped in with a friend for a quick caffeinated beverage before driving her to the airport. As always it was wonderful. The room is small but never feels too crowded. The big floor to ceiling street front windows allow a ton of natural light in. They are also great for people watching from the beautiful rounded bar. Simple in design with a lovely vase of flowers, it's easy to relax and enjoy all of the beverages and pastries they offer. I have been loving oat milk and happily I discovered they have it. Yay me! A very efficient and friendly coffee bar. I liked the taste of the plain espresso shot as well as the iced coffee. There is oat milk on the bar that you can add into your iced coffee. I liked how they served the lids on plates on the coffee bar so you could add milk if desired and then put your own lid on. The line was kinda long at times but moved fast. I have been here quite a few times since moving to the city and the service is always friendly, the coffee is always great, and the experience is always memorable. My only experience of la Colombe coffee had been from the refrigerated cans of coffee drinks up until today. I had high hopes for the real deal because I have always loved the canned drinks. This did not disappoint! My barista was so friendly and offered for my friend and I to sample multiple drinks in order to make our final decision. I learned that it's a "company policy" that la Colombe store locations cannot serve flavored sweeteners which sorta worried me as I typically like a little flavor! After sampling, I decided on the oat milk draft latte and I've been dreaming of it ever since. It was phenomenal. A little colder than room temp, slightly naturally sweet, and so so smooth!! Our waiter at dinner recommended this establishment and glad he did. The actual coffee flavor is very good, not bitter and the cost for an iced mocha latte was $4.75 not bad. The baristas were both very nice and explained everything to me prior to ordering. Ahh yes, La Colombe. In a weird way, this felt like a right of passage for someone who considers themselves a Chicago based coffee aficionado. There's a reason people talk about this place non-stop, but I'll share my additional thoughts: Coffee - Good. Honestly, really good. They have a somewhat simple menu, and I have yet to try something off of it that isn't good. If you are new to this place, you can't go wrong with a draft latte. Personal preference is to get it with no ice, because it really makes the drink taste even more smooth than it already is :) Price - Not great, but I've learned that I just have to deal with that. It's comparable to a lot of boutique coffee stores, so I can't knock them too much. Environment/Ambiance - This location is not somewhere I would ever go to if I were looking to sit down. It isn't very spacious, and it can get pretty claustrophobic, even just while waiting for your coffee. I am a sucker for a place where you can meet with friends or sit and work for a while, and this just doesn't fit that profile. There are some seats, but not enough for my liking. Service - Great. Knowledgeable baristas, patient while you figure out the menu, and will give recommendations if you give your preferences. I'll continue to go here because I enjoy the coffee, but it just will never earn a full 5 star rating from me. Perhaps a different location :) read more

I have three Starbucks in three different directions within a block of my house. Nothing against Starbucks but it's nice to have another option without having to walk an extra 1/2 block for coffee!! It's small, more resembling an Italian coffee house in size and design, with a stand up bar where you can go in Italian style, stand at the bar, get your bump and keep moving! This is a nice coffee shop to stop get your pastry pay and leave. The staff is helpful and efficient . The pastries are excellent. The last time I was there I noted a sign that no dogs are allowed even if you carry them . So I was disappointed to learn that my pup in arms is no longer welcomed. I must admit that living in Manhattan where dogs are usually welcome, malls , stores and outside restaurants is hard to give up. I am not yet quite getting with the Chicago culture. read more

I've only ever had the cans from the store so when I saw there was a physical store when we were visiting Chicago, it was a must stop. The oatmilk draft latte was SO GOOD. Everyone was so friendly even though it was busy but I never felt rushed. Service was excellent and my drink was finished before I was even done paying. I was unhappy with how a barista treated us here. We ordered, paid, and sat down. No one asked us for vax cards. Then the barista came over and asked for vax cards which I started to pull up on my phone. Then she comes back and says she checked the other people's vax cards first (these people were still at the register) so we had to leave our table. How does it make any sense to ask customers who have already paid to leave when she is the one who forgot to ask for our vax cards? She needs better training on how to deal with customers. I wasn't about to pull a Karen and ask for the manager who was manning the cash register with 12 people on line. Disappointing service. read more

The first time I took a sip of their coffee, I didn't like it. I put it in the fridge and decided I would just force myself to drink in the next day. The next day however, I loved it! Their coffee is great and has helped with my fancy sugar-laden coffee addiction that caused me to overspend so much at Starbucks. This place is 100x better. There are long lines if you get there around 9:30/10 on weekends and this is definitely not a sit down and chat type of place, so keep that in mind when visiting.
