In June of 2022 my daughter decided she wanted me to move closer to her in Carlsbad and to stop living alone at age 89 years. For 60 plus years I was a CPA, a CFO a Consultant a 45 year member of 3 masonic lodges, a 45 year member of the Al Malaikah Shrine and a Shrine Clown for 25 years. And I physically left all of this behind, but not contact wise. Every day someone at La Costa Glen will tell you "I am so lucky to be living here". After 6 months I thought I should get more involved in the LCG community and to add my life experiences to assist in helping others make this place the best in the country. Some residents have told me this is the last stop. To me this is the first stop, in exploring new adventures, new challenges and the fun of living an active life full of new challenges. In the 3 years of being on the Finance Committee I have seen what happens when you get involved in helping to make your environment better. Since moving to LCG I am able to pick things up off of the floor without help for the first time in over 6 years - thanks to the best Physical Therapy in my 40 years of going to physical therapy off and on. I tell anyone who will listen to me "If you can't be happy here you can't be happy anywhere" "or there is something very wrong with you". Imagine, I don't have to cook, I don't have to do the dishes and I don't even have to make my bed! I am writing a new story almost every other day - true stories with humor. Each week we get a new 14 inch menu - most of the words I don't understand but I do understand we have the best cooks, the best waiters and waitress and very good company at our beautiful dinning room. I just found out that the residents have contributed $15,000,000 over the years to Scripps hospital. This year they have a goal of $2,000,000. The residents have an EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION FUND, which this year a total of $1,243,000 was raised as a gift to all of the hourly employees amounting to $2.04 an hour worked. This comes from happy residents as an appreciation to the many workers who come to work each day to make this THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE. This isn't a 2, 3, 4 star place to live this is the biggest 5 star you can give. read more

I am incredibly grateful that my dad lives at La Costa Glen. It has been a true blessing for our entire family. The community offers so many opportunities for residents to stay engaged -- from social activities and outings to clubs, fitness programs, and more. My dad has met so many wonderful people here, and those friendships have been such a positive force in his life. The clubs are fantastic, especially the ukulele club, where they not only practice but even do "flash mob" performances around the community -- he absolutely loves it. The fitness facilities and programs are top-notch, with great equipment and knowledgeable professionals who genuinely care about the residents' well-being. The food is consistently excellent, and the campus itself is stunning -- beautifully landscaped grounds, water features, and architecture that feels more like a luxury resort than a senior living community. Every time I visit, I'm reminded just how special this place is. But what truly sets La Costa Glen apart is the staff. The staff-to-resident ratio is exceptional, and it gives me tremendous peace of mind knowing that if my dad ever needs help, support is always just moments away. They are kind, attentive, and deeply committed to the residents. Knowing that my dad is safe, happy, active, and well cared for is absolutely priceless. We live nearby and visit often, but we can't be there around the clock -- and at La Costa Glen, we truly don't have to worry. I moved into La Costa Glen (LCG) five weeks before the Covid-19 shut-down. I was able to meet several wonderful residents and keep in touch with them during the very trying time of Covid. However, the absolutely fabulous staff at LCG were able to change things up on a dime! A hotline was established for us to order our daily meal and it was delivered directly to our door nightly. They even started delivering little breakfast bags to help us stay out of grocery stores. The doorbell would ring several days a week with either the "ice cream cart", the "coffee & pastry cart" or the "Margarita cart!" Exercise equipment was moved outside, tents were erected to let us enjoy sitting in the shade (with our masks on!) exercise classes were run on our closed circuit TV to keep us fit. Forth of July was celebrated with a flat-bed truck driving through the campus with a band playing great patriotic music. My first year here was held in quarantine, but I could not have wished for a better place to get through it. Things are now getting back to "normal", and I am looking forward to many years of this wonderful service in the future. I am surely blessed to be in a place that cares! read more

I have made an exhaustive search all over California for a retirement community for my parents and with my family decided La Costa Glen was the place to be. I'm from the Bay Area and there are great ones up here, but my parents fell in love with La Costa Glen. Since they have lived in the Carlsbad area for decades, it just made more sense for them to move there. They don't need assistance now but we are all comforted to know it's there if they ever need it. They love all the new friends they have made and all new the amazing experiences they are having. The staff are incredibly helpful, especially Kristen the Executive Director. She has been so patient with my parents and my family as they made the move to the community. I can't thank them enough or recommend the community enough for giving me the piece of mind that they are safe and frankly having the time of their lives. It's like they are back in college. My wife and I have lived in La Costa Glen (LCG) for 4 years. We moved here for security, comfort, and enjoyment through various activities and socializing. Despite COVID-19 related restrictions, which are now being lifted, we are happy with our decision to live in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), such as LCG. It is located close to the Pacific ocean about 32 miles North of downtown San Diego and has perfect weather year round. The staff tries its best to meet the needs of residents and please them. It is no more expensive than other CCRCs in the area. Once you decide to move into a CCRC after considering all the pros and cons of living in a CCRC in Southern California, LCG is ideal. It has apartments as well as villas to chose from. Marketing personnel are very friendly and are happy to see people considering moving to a CCRC. They can answer your questions and don't apply any pressure. This is a good time to consider LCG as there are vacancies due to COVID-19 which is normally not the case. In fitness class , Patti calls us her  '" rock stars ".  at 87 years old, it makes me feel special, even giddy. The glen has been my home for the past 4 1/2 years since moving clear across the country from  Massachusetts. Residents still pick up on my accent especially when i talk about my cah (car). During Covid when most activities shut down, the fitness classes continued, safely spaced,  outdoors , Now that we have moved inside, I miss  hearing the birds sing as well as taking in the fresh air and fragrant landscaping. Most of all we remained safe !  as masks were strictly enforced, &  meals delivered , some days special treats of flowers, ice cream carts and other goodies arrived  to soften our impatience and the limitations of confinement.  Now, with being vaccinated,  the dining rooms have reopened  as well as the computer classes, tennis and pickle ball, bridge games , beach walks , movies and more. We are back to living the ideal life that was expected. I am happy to call La Costa Glen my home. read more

I feel blessed to be able to live at la Costa Glen. It is important to me to have staff "on my side". It is always "how can I help you?" in any situation. Also important is financial soundness. Our community is in excellent financial status and not all senior living facilities are today. I look out my window and see trees, grounds for long, long walks and beautiful flowers. Because we are large, we have every amenity and activity one could desire. It is amazing to me how welcoming everyone is to new residents whether a couple or single. During covid, I felt well taken care of in every way. Our health contact here even arranged for CVS to come here to give us our vaccinations. Our meals were delivered to our door and the food staff were able to deliver delicious meals in a bag. I find living is easy and I am ready for that after all those years maintaining a home. I have lived at La Costa Glen for seven and a half years. Many professional people live here. I enjoy meeting people whose knowledge, work experience, and travel span are diverse and interesting. Because I have always worked with people professionally, I have an opportunity to be on committees that are worthwhile. I have utilized and recognize the high caliber of our physical therapy services and our physical group and/or individual physical activities. We are as physically active as we desire. I enjoy and appreciate the wide subject talks ranging from "growing old gracefully" to "swallowing techniques". Because I see that other people have listed daily activities, I will not. I have lived in La Costa Glen for 13 years! Best decision that my husband and I ever made. We knew we wanted to live in a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community), but never dreamed we'd find one so beautiful with every amenity that we could imagine. And with the GlenBrook Health Center (Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and Memory Care) as a part of our contract, we knew we would never be a burden to our children as we aged. My husband passed away after 5 years of living here, and the kind, loving support from all my friends and fellow residents made the adjustment easier than if I still lived in my home of 50 years. My 90 yo husband and I ( 78) felt living in our home of 38 years was becoming more work than we wanted. We looked at 7 retirement communities that had assisted living, skilled nursing care and memory care to various degrees in addition to independent living. My mom moved into La Costa Glen in February, and so far so good! Carolynn and her team helped us through the entire process, from choosing a unit in her price range, to picking carpet and paint, to answering all of our many questions in a timely and professional manner. The staff and residents have been warm and welcoming, the food is delicious, and the grounds are well-maintained and beautiful. Mom swims regularly in the lovely and warm indoor pool, attends art classes, enjoys outdoor concerts, takes the weekly shuttle to Target, meets friends for morning coffee chats, and is trying to learn a little bridge. Moving to La Costa Glen in Carlsbad was one of the best decisions I've made. After looking at several locations in Southern California I realized this was the best place for me. The coastline location is perfect since I enjoy the cool ocean breezes and clean air. The staff is always smiling and very helpful so they're probably treated quite well by management.
