Went here for the first time last week. The service was terrific. The gentleman seated me right away, must have checked on me at least 4 times throughout, and was very friendly as well. The atmosphere and food both were very much your run of the mill mid level Mexican restaurant. The food was decent but not anything memorable. The environment was typical Mexican decor with cheap menus and seating. The reason for the 3 star rating was more the price. The entrees are going to be high teens to mid twenties. For medium fare Mexican food I would expect that to be low to mid teens. The portions were pretty decent sized. I probably won't return. Restaurant was decorated like most other Mexican restaurants. It's very spacious w comfortable seating. Staff greeted us promptly and were friendly. The complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip tasted good. Our mains did not. I got a smothered Chile Verde burrito. I detected no green chile used in it. That's what Chile Verde is, it's a stew and the star is green chile. This was a thin SOUR tomatillo salsa. Very acidic w lime, no salt, garlic. Sacrilege to this proud New Mexican, where green chile is life. Hubby got the Chile Colorado burrito. It was worse than the Chile Verde. It was a watery red sauce, very sour. Idk what they used for the sauce but it wasn't like any red chile I've ever had. Thin, sour, no seasonings, not the silky deep red chile sauce w meaty flavor from beef, that it should've been. Sadly we were let down by La Costa. It wasn't terrible, but for the price point I felt that what we had wasn't necessarily worth it and I wouldn't return. We tried the chicken flautas, chicken taquitos rancheros, and the pollo con crema plus rice and beans of course. The beans were okay but we weren't big fans of the rice. The flautas and taquitos were average at best, and the pollo con crema wasn't very good. I felt like everything was lacking in flavor a bit. Perhaps we hit them on an off night? read more

Ordering takeout over the phone was like pulling teeth. The employee said she was new, but it took seven minutes to get two basic questions (not) answered and then order three items (a burrito, tacos, and enchiladas). After confirming my order three times, I ended up with one incorrect item. I rely on family-oriented Mexican restaurants to fulfill my caloric needs. This is not a restaurant I can possibly work into the rotation. The burrito meal was especially mediocre considering today I had a much better one for just $1 more ($17) ... at the top of the gondola at Snowbasin. This is not an exaggeration, it is a stark reminder that a basic wet burrito like this one should be (at most) priced 1-2 ticks above Chipotle and every bite should justify why you didn't just go to Chipotle. Tacos were dry. Very disappointing. It's almost expected that front of the house will be staffed with at least one high-school-aged female cousin of the owner. But, seriously, even if it's the first day on the job, it's hard to justify how someone could work at a Mexican restaurant and be completely baffled when asked if the burrito on the menu is a "wet burrito/burrito mojado." Disappointing fajitas were unfortunately the takeaway from this visit. The five pieces of small shrimp that came as the protein were so dry I had to saturate them with salsa to get some moisture. I was hoping the grilling was better done as well but try as I might, I could not think of any reason to get these again. My dining companions reported the same disappointment with the chicken fajitas so I know it wasn't just an unlucky one-off. The chips and salsa were spectacular and among my favorite in the SLC valley. The horchata is also good, light enough to get the flavors but not syrupy sweet. Both of these pluses were not enough to negate the dissatisfaction from the fajitas, however -- the cooks need to be retrained on this dish. The restaurant's decor is always nice here and past visits have been a lot better. Service was nice but not engaging. read more

Firehouse subs is one of my favorite sandwich places. My husband and I had a gift card so we came the other night and got sandwiches to go. He got the brisket sandwich and I got the Italian. I really enjoyed this restaurant! First, and most important, they have a local Utah Mexican beer on tap, Zolopez, their beers are delicious and pair very well with Mexican dishes. The waitress told me they just put the Zolopez on tap recently! Hopefully they will continue to have on it tap so you all can give it a try. The free chips and salsa were good, and came with a little side of beans. I ordered the bean and cheese burrito and was not disappointed! It does not come with shredded lettuce or tomato, but I was able to order a side no problem, as I have to have the lettuce and tomato with my bean and cheese. I can't giving a proper rating to any burrito without that addition, haha! Staff was very friendly and checked on me multiple times. I have been here several times and recommended it to a small group of friends for dinner. Our sever brought water then was gone for 15 or 20 min. When we flagged her down to try and place our order, one of her coworkers was beyond rude to us. She pointed out the water as evidence her colleague had been to our table. We explained that we just got her attention because it had been a while, and we were ready to order. What happened next was either a scam or an intricate plan to get us to leave. Our server took our order then came right back to explain their system was down and they could only take cash. We asked about alternatives. Twice she came back. Our options were cash or she could write down a card number and process it later. I eventually left my friends, got in my car, went to an ATM to get cash. No other customers (that I could see) were asked to pay cash. No one else left to get cash. New customers weren't advised of the cash only situation... When the bill arrived, our server said the system was back up. Good. Seconds later, it was down again. Literally...seconds. It made no sense. By that time, I had planned to pay cash anyway. The only thing we surmised was that we angered someone when we asked for our server and they went out of their way to try and get us to leave. Regardless, anyone in management could have helped out the server instead of leaving her on her own to return three times to talk about payment BEFORE they would even make our food. The food isn't even good. It is barely average. There are many choices for great Mexican food in Sandy. Pick one of those places. read more

Awesome Mexican restaurant!! Great options. I got the 2 Sopes plate and it was SO GOOD. 2 homemade corn sopes with shredded chicken, topped with refriese beans and cabbage. With a side of sour cream, guac, rice, and beans. It was absolutely delicious and I was very impressed! It was the first time I've ever had a sope and I loved it. Also, the plates were HUGE. First of all, the server was not very attentive when it came to our waters, but I can overlook something like that. When they brought the bill, I noticed it was higher than it normally is. So I inquired about that and it turns out they are now automatically charging a 20% gratuity (and not telling us about it). I told them that I will never come back to a restaurant that automatically charges a gratuity. So I am done with this place and will not recommend it to anyone ever again. Want my business back?
