I am trying very hard right now to avoid hyperbolic fluff, but I simply must state: these are the best tacos al pastor I've had that I can remember. Seriously. Pineapple-infused meat with occasional onion brings the taco to life and body slammed my taste buds. I ended up going twice in two days to get the same thing: tacos al pastor. My dining partner ordered the tacos birria de res and noted succulent shredded beef with lots of juices. A little lime here, a little hot sauce there, and whammo--a fiesta in your mouth. The rice and beans that accompany the entree are not bland and are fluffy and tasty. Chips are made throughout the day and get scooped out of the oven and into your bowl, something that is not only fun to watch but guarantees warm chips. Served with three salsas (the mild red one has tiny bits of carrot in it, which I loved). The horchata here is not overly sweet (thank goodness) and the agua fresca flavor collection is extensive and yummy. My personal favorite is melón (cantaloupe). Mexican Coke available as well. Easy to miss driving by but worth looking up and visiting. It's a great sign when the customer base is heavily Latino and they are praising the food as authentic. My service at night was unremarkable and distant. I got the feeling the server wanted to just go home. But the following day, with a different crew, service shone and was pleasant, so I'll write off the prior issue as an anomaly until it's repeated. read more

We got the Enchilada Style Burrito with Al Pastor and red sauce and the Seafood Burrito, which came with tilapia, shrimp, and green sauce. This place is the truth I tell you! The owner is from Puebla, Mexico so you know it's authentic. Everything was mouth watering and delicious. We tried a little of everything. The fried cheese with meat was perfect! It came out piping hot and with so much flavor. My friend loved the guacamole rolls which consisted of guacamole rolled up fried with cheese crumbles on top. My main course was surprising. I wasn't sure what to order so the owner said he was going to surprise me. He came back with this seafood concoction consisted of shrimp and octopus. The presentation was cute and it tasted amazing! I was hesitant because I'm not the biggest octopus fan but I loved it. The texture was just right and the juices from the cocktail sauce completed everything. Nice little restaurant. Parking in back as well as a drive thru. Everything was spotless. We were greeted promptly when we arrived and given the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Our host was super careful and gave us lots of distance for ordering. They use a QR code on the table. The menu was all online and easy to navigate. LOTs of selection for food. Seriously there is a wide variety to choose from. I went with a chimichanga and California tacos. Host brought us chips and Salsa to snack on. Super good chips that were crunchy and tasted great. The salsa was a little spicy, but delicious. Chimichanga was huge. So good. I seriously ate the whole thing. Rice was just a white rice. I ate some of the salad, but not really a salad person so don't judge me. I'm sure it was fine. California burrito was excellent. Very tender. Give this place a try. I called and the manager gets on the line and barley gives an apology saying they are too busy then proceeded to say "the fajita order comes only with meat the only thing they forgot was the tortilla". $65 with of food- I have eaten here before and this is NOT how it's served. This was a place I have been wanting to try for years but always forget about even though it's basically around the corner from where I live. First the staff!! There where 2 people and they were the best two people who could have been there. Alberto (that's the name on our receipt) was so friendly! Our daughter is in Spanish Immersion and is trying to use what very little she knows. He was so sweet asking about her learning, and using Spanish with her. Food- we had quacamole which was very flavorful and fresh, the chips where crisp and amazing! My daughter got the special Tamales. It's not on the menu but he makes them from October to February and they are a must try!!! She got pork and beef. I kind of over took her lunch, it was so good! And they are huge! Well I have to say I have been really hesitant to try this place. My wife has been trying to get me to try it out for maybe 2 years. So today was the day, she (my wife) was wanting Mexican food and I was tricked into trying it for lunch. The inside is a little smaller, but I enjoy intimate settings. We ordered some guacamole,chicken nuggets and fries for the boy (he was being picky today), pepe's tacos, tamales and some street tacos, and churros to split for dessert. Everything was great!!!! I was really impressed. Oh and the employees ever very hospitable. The guy was even having little conversations with my daughter who is her 1st year of Spanish immersion. To understand El Gallo Loco, you have to experience the whole thing. If you just breeze in and grab food and get out, you're probably only going to be a lukewarm about it. It's not bad, an there are some things to enjoy (the namesake chicken, for example, is a more unique dish) but even that is probably not going to bowl you over, Me? I stuck around a while, and I spoke with the chef and the server at length, and it was such a warm and friendly experience that I understand what everyone is talking about and why it's been around a few years already and seems to be going well. I sat down and the very delightful server came and walked me through some of their favorites. She hooked me up by letting me mix and match a bit of the chicken, and it felt like we were homies by the time I had ordered. It's a small local diner. You expect to see Flo or Alice as the server, but instead you might see Florencia and Alicia. Instead of pancakes you have pan. The folksy diner charm is in full effect and it just so happens to be Mexican food. It wasn't too busy on a weeknight and I hung around for a long while. The music kept going on and off, but when it was on it was on point. They pumped out some killer tunes from Maná and the like. It's about the full experience: the food and the service. I was craving Mexican food for lunch and decided to give Taqueria El Gallo Loco a go. I was a little confused about where to park at first but found some parking in the back. I was a little worried because it said drive through and I didn't want to get stuck in a drive through--I wanted to sit down and eat. I was immediately greeted by a really nice guy that seated me and gave me a menu. I had no idea what to get--I chose chicken tacos with rice, beans and salad! I'm not gonna lie, the flavor was not all there. Tacos typically have a bit more than just meat on them. The beans and rice were not your average beans and rice. However, it still was tasty, just not what I am expecting and definitely different than other places. Overall, everything came out super quickly and the service was absolutely spectacular!! Really, overall pretty good. The best part was our server, he cracked jokes and gave good suggestions for food. I got the "Taconazo" and it was very good, fresh and flavorful. My wife got two tacos and they were even more delicious. The beans and rice were a little bland for my taste, although the bean and cheese burrito we got for my son was very tasty. My friend got the mole after the server explained it was the owner's personal recipe. I'm not a mole fan and still am not after having a bite - but I think mole lovers ought to go try this one! The Birria was ok, the rest were so flavorless. Where to start... The place is spotless. Very clean. Everywhere. The water was delicious. I think restaurant water taste is a benchmark. You may not agree. My ex-wife's ice maker makes her water taste like garbage. My youngest doesn't seem to notice. I had carnitas. Huge plate. Rice, beans, 4 corn tortillas, a generous slice of avocado, pickled radish or something. My kid who doesn't notice how crappy her mother's ice tastes had shredded beef tacos. Perfect garnish, lots of color, just really, really nice! Portions were big and presentation was absolutely delightful. I mean, everything was done with care and attention, if that makes any sense. Fundamentals of quality showed through everywhere. I got the impression that they care very much about what they do and who they do it for. I've known about them for a long time. Had a colleague tell me how good their breakfast burritos are way back in 2015. It's just never been top of mind for me, even though I've never driven past this place for the last 6 years and not thought about that time Nik English told me I should check them out. Location isn't an issue once you find something you like. This location no longer bothers me whatsoever. The chips remind me of Lone Star Taqueria. The salsa is full of flavor and has layers of complexity. They're opening a third location in WVC the end of this month. They have a drive through. There's ample parking on the east. Long story short! Check your order, make sure they got it right! And don't go expecting a 4 1/2 star meal. This place is no way as good as the ratings claims it to be. I don't understand how they have 4 1/2 stars! I ordered the half grilled chicken and it felt like I got a stack of bones. You get tiny little bit of beans, it's literally like a shot glass of beans. The rice is yellow! Not authentic Mexican rice at all. My hubby ordered carnitas and they were way dry and didn't have much flavor. I Chose this place bcz they had 4 1/2 stars but no way is this a 4 1/2 star place! Not just that but they they didn't keep the orders straight! They insisted we didn't pay for a order of chicken that we never got or ordered. They were going to make the waitress pay and I felt bad so we paid it. But she somewhere added a plate we didn't order or get. Along with an extra plate of chicken nuggets we didn't order. It was a large group a total of six tabs/bills maybe the waitress let some walk out without paying the full bill and there for my husband and my brother somewhere paid for her mistakes! All together we paid for 3 full chickens when all together as a group we ate 2 1/2 and charged for an entire chicken each! Today 3 days later my brothers bill went from $176 to $40, to $60 and now $80. They charged him and extra $20 for a tip. When my husband and I paid $20 tip and top of a few others.... the owner was a jack ass! I feel like the owner is a heartless gouger! Who cares zero about his staff! We will never eat here again! My husband and I visited here last Friday for dinner. I ordered the enchilada dinner with a cheese, pastor, and asada enchilada. It also comes with a scoop of rice and a little side of lettuce and pickled onions. I chose the green sauce to top it. I thought it was really tasty! The meats both had good flavor and were pretty tender. I really enjoyed eating each bite with some of the lettuce, so in the future I think I would ask for extra The rice was pretty basic with little flecks of vegetables, but it had nice flavor. This seems like a small thing, but I generally ask for no sour cream because restaurants always give you a big blob and it's disgusting! Here they had a little drizzle and it was perfect! My husband ordered the huevos rancheros with red sauce. This comes with three tortillas, each topped with an egg cooked over medium with cheese, diced onions, and tomatoes, plus rice and beans. He's not a huge fan of beans, but he said theirs were good. I just tried a bite and enjoyed it, but I think I like the green sauce better than the red (although I generally do). He also had the mango smoothie which he always orders. It is huge! My very favorite thing is their chips and salsa. They make their own chips in the restaurant, and they serve them warm. They are thicker, clearly made out of corn tortillas, and all around fabulous. Yum yum yum! We asked to try a little bit of each of their salsas (the regular one they serve chips with, plus avocado and tomatillo), and they were all good, but the regular one is best, in my opinion. The other two are pretty mild, while the regular one has a nice mild to medium heat. They offer dessert, and unfortunately we were too stuffed to try it, but it sounded delicious (pumpkin flan!). Our server was very busy as he was the only one in the restaurant, and there were probably 5 or 6 tables being assisted at any one time. He had a great attitude, though, and was impressively speedy. It was also clear he genuinely enjoys working there and loves the food. I think that says a lot about a business. They've just started serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. It is supposed to be more like a buffet style, so I'm excited to try that. Their prices are about the same as any other Mexican restaurant of this style in the area. Entrees average about $10.00. The interior is not pretty, but at a restaurant like this I'm not going there for the ambiance or the decorations so I don't care. It was clearly clean, and that's all that I'm concerned with. I feel like most of the inexpensive Mexican restaurants here are pretty similar, but El Gallo Loco is my favorite based on the chips alone. I know any entrée I'm going to order will be good, but those chips just make the whole meal. Plus they are free so I can order three refills if I want! Hurray! read more
