We were driving home from San Diego and decided to stop in for some wine. I was happy to see they had a check-in offer for a free cheese plate. The staff member was super friendly and created a cheese plate that paired well with the bottle of wine we chose. The cheese plate was straight up amazing! Amazing experience here! The service, atmosphere, choice of wine, food and products at the front, just made all of us wanna come back again! The four of us decided to grab a glass here after eating. Although it's tucked in a corner in a quiet plaza, thanks to Yelp we found this cool spot to hang out! At the front you'll see a display fridge full of cold cuts and cheese, from where they pull out stuff to make your charcuterie. Along the wall you'll also see some interesting local products like honey and snacks. The bar tables and a large community table are located at the back, so you'll walk and browse through the shelves of wine as you make your way to the tables. You can order by the glass or pick a bottle! You can also bring your own wine and the corkage is $5, but you're in a wine cellar, what's the point to bring your own wine then lol. The service was amazing. The lady was knowledgeable about the wines and made some good recommendations. By checking in, you get a free cheese board (single) that is worth $9, but the lady was nice to let us use that $9 credit toward a bigger cheese board! Great experience here! The owner has created a warm and brighter environment than the old location but it's still intimate and has that insider feel. Located in a small plaza, in the corner, stands this place. It's an adorable little place with big selections of wine. I was here for a Yelp event and even though the man knew he couldn't help me with any of the wines, he smiled at me and welcomed me to "the party" which was really cool. I immediately made my way to the back to get the $10 wine flights deal for 3 tastes. The thing about these "tastes" are that they are really generous with what they give you and the wines I had were delicious. So much that I had to let the wine settle in my stomach before driving home, if you know what I mean. :) The first wine I had was the Laroche Petite Chablis, it was light, delicious and sort of dry, kind of how I like my wine. It paired perfectly with the cheese and spread they had out for us. The second wine I tasted was the La Ciboise Luberon Rouge, it was really good and though I took awhile to drink this and nursed it a bit (tasted wonderful, a little strong for me) but it paired perfectly with the fig and cheese panini they served us. And then last was the Laroque Cabernet Franc and that one kicked my butt, it was so good, I drank it rather fast and had to hang out for a bit before driving home. Overall, my experience here was wonderful and I'll definitely come back to check out the other wines they have available, but I'm definitely coming back for the Laroque Cabernet Franc!! read more

LA COSTA WINE CO. is a difficult place for me to rate. in some respects my experience was truly five star. in others they came up a bit short. the wife and i stopped by on a friday evening. the place was pretty busy. looked like they were in the middle of a wine tasting and lots of folks had cheese plates. though a self-confessed "wine snob" friend of mine characterized the staff as "zombies," everybody i had a chance to interact with was knowledgeable, courteous and attentive. we spent most of our brief visit at the cheese counter (and they have an amazing selection of cheeses -- several times what you'd expect if you visited their web site). picked up a 1/4 pound of ST. AGUR (a every mellow, double-cream blue) and a 1/4 pound of NORTH HOLLANDER (sweet and nutty with butterscotch flavors). was very impressed with the young lady that helped us. i only remember them having two salumi selections (we picked up the NAPOLI). with deep, earthy flavors, it immediately climbed toward the top of our favorite's list. here's where LA COSTA WINE fell short for me -- not a particularly good wine selection and especially weak in their premium offerings. that's kinda disappointing since they are a wine store, for crying out loud. after visiting them in person i decided to check them out on-line, i looked over their inventory and either i missed a lot or those guys were holding out on me. i was a bit under dressed -- maybe they didn't feel the need to show me wines i obviously couldn't afford ... but i don't mind. my cellar's full anyway and now, after picking up some most excellent cheese and salumi, so is my tummy. read more

I went here for a wine tasting with a couple of friends and arrived early expecting quite a crowd, which there was. My friend who has a bad back needed to sit down and the staff were more than accommodating. The tasting started a bit behind schedule but this is quite common at all wine bars so I was not bothered. Also, when you think about it, the wine has been bottled for 2-4 years so waiting an extra 20 minutes is nothing. Perspective folks. The tasting was overwhelming, there were 50 wines to taste and the staff had placed many brightly colored fliers in the entrance stating that they expect to see people spitting out their samples. Maybe this was a CYA move but, who could blame them, 50 one ounce tasting pours equals TWO bottles of wine. I really liked the staff and the easy going atmosphere of the La Costa Wine Co. The store has a vast selection of Cabernet and some real gems within their Reserve room. My favorite are the large format bottles, not just magnums, but double magnums of stellar California wineries and renowned first growths. read more
