Five Stars and then some for the outstanding service, food, and the beach vibe. My sister and I wandered into this place for breakfast one morning and we were so happy and pleased with our experience. Our server Ray was really the best. She was helpful and so nice. We sat on the outdoor patio and the weather was pristine. We just sat there and enjoyed watching the palms sway. We were here for breakfast and it was such a tasty breakfast. As my sister stated, she could feel the love the chef had for the food he was making us and it was so true. Every bite was hot, the hash browns were so cooked just right. The freshly squeezed orange juice was sunshine in a glass! Parking can be rough as their lot is very small so you may find yourself driving around a bit to find a spot. The menu is a variety and everything we've tried has tasted so fresh! My only qualm was recently ordering a soda water with lime for $4.50, although they're free refills I thought this was very expensive. The service has always been fast and friendly when it comes to seating, ordering and food delivery, as they are always quite busy it's appreciated that it's always been a short wait with a smile! Everything here sounded so good and its really a cute place but honestly disappointing. Pretty sure my dog liked his doggy dish more than we liked our food. The short ribs in the hash thing were decently fatty, otherwise pretty good on their own. The hashbrowns on both plates tasted very chemically? We joined the waitlist ahead of time, and the hostess was kind enough to seat our friends who arrived earlier so we could all sit together. The atmosphere is comforting and cozy, making for a relaxing dining experience. My Fruit Granola Yogurt was delicious, and my husband loved his Angus Short Rib & Hash Brown Potato Cakes. I paired mine with fresh orange juice and Sweet Orange Spice Black Tea. They offer loose-leaf teas, which is a nice touch. My husband ordered a tasty black coffee. They even have a dog menu. One of my favorite locations for brunch or just grabbing coffee to go while in the village. Their almond joy coffee brings me back every time. Tastes like heaven! Love the balance of not too sweet as in it's sweet enough but doesn't overpower the actual flavor of coffee. It does not matter what food you order off their menu, it will be delicious! I've ordered something different each time and always love it. Sometimes I've been a bit skeptical but I've fully learned to trust in their menu. They know what they are doing. I recently had their chicken, pistachio pesto, & burrata sandwich and it was a fantastic combo of flavor. Every bite was delicious and blended perfectly. I also love their salmon eggs benedict, maple fried chicken breakfast sandwich, cornmeal pancakes, mango pancakes, and Tahitian vanilla French toast. Shorehouse Kitchen is a little overrated to me. It's a popular brunch spot both in Carlsbad and La Jolla with airy seating, but just okay food. We visited the Carlsbad location for Mothers Day, so the wait was understandably very long. Even getting onto the waitlist, given the size of our party, it took about an hour and a half. You do need to be within about a 10 mile radius to put yourself on the waitlist, so it doesn't work if you're trying to drive up from San Diego. They have seating in an "indoor" covered patio area, a back patio with umbrellas and a few seats in the front street. We were seated on the back patio area. The plus here is that they are dog friendly so we were able to bring our pup with us! They have an extensive brunch menu. I got the chilaquiles, which are my go to on a brunch menu, but they were just okay. They were really saucy and extremely spicy. The sauce was a little overpowering and didn't provide a great balance with the chips and other toppings. Overall, the sauce was almost too much that it was slightly inedible. I took it home and was able to add some more eggs and it made it better. I think people come here for the vibe. The food just isn't it for me, but I can appreciate that it's a nice spot to enjoy a meal and solid for group outings. Parking was also available in the lot next door, which was convenient, especially for this area. read more

My wife and I used to love this place, but our last couple of visits have been disappointing. The quality of the food has declined recently. On our most recent visit, I got the black forest ham omelet with hash browns and my wife ordered the egg white and tofu frittata with breakfast potatoes and a fruit cup. The omelet and the frittata were pretty bland and both the hash browns and breakfast potatoes were not crispy and did not taste fresh. The fruit cup was pretty much inedible. The fruit was not fresh, it looked like the fruit had been sitting for a few days and had a funny smell coming from it. We told our server about the fruit cup and he removed it from the bill without us having to ask. Our server was great and was very understanding about the fruit cup. We could tell from his expression that he agreed that a fruit cup of that quality should not have been served.
