The fish tacos were muey rico! Loved the chips & 4 salsa. Will be back to try much more! Great menu & prices! Friendly & very helpful staff. Outdoor seating in shade. Good was quick & yummy!

The most authentic, home cooked, delicious Mexican food we've ever had. Highlights were the Mexican salad, chorizo quesadilla. We also ordered a mole enchilada, shrimp taco and pork taco - everything was phenomenal. Wish we could go back tomorrow.

We stopped here for a quick breakfast before touring Isla for the day. It was great food. We had chilaquiles, omelet, pancakes and fruit plates. The guacamole was amazing. The atmosphere was quaint and they had seating for 10 of us indoors. We all enjoyed our meals and used the baño before heading out on our adventure. My son said the pancakes were the best he's ever had!

Best best best breakfasts we've ever had! From the coffee to the fresh fruit to the pancakes to the eggs, everything is delicious and fresh! The flavors are amazing! The salsas were a treat because each were super homemade. We love this venue also because the staff are incredibly kind, nice, helpful & always smiling. I highly recommend this venue.

On a recent trip to Isla Mujeres with my husband this was our favorite breakfast restaurant. It is operated by a lovely, friendly family. They take great care in abiding by local ordinances- wearing face masks and cleaning every surface. The prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic- the best chilaquiles ever! They make delicious omelettes and cappuccinos. When we were at a five star all-inclusive resort the following week we found ourselves craving the chilaquiles from La Cueva De La Cherna :)

Let's just say after two trips here, one drink and one sober, I am a big fan! The chorizo tacos were my fav, hence the second trip. I also enjoyed the salsa bar because their homemade guac sauce is great! The service was as fast as it can be on an island but I really enjoyed the feel of being in someones home and having a home cooked meal. I felt comfortable eating alone, which I typically do, but even more so here. It's close to a few hotels but I think it may be overlooked and its a shame.

Taqueria La Cueva De La Cherna is one of the biggest surprises on Av. Hildago. The restaurant is small and unassuming at first glance, and since it's located at the end of Hildago, it's easy to overlook. Unlike most restaurants on Hildago, Taqueria La Cueva De La Cherna looks more like a restaurant from the residential side of the island. It's not fancy or touristy at all Don't let its appearance fool you because you will get an excellent meal at great prices. I tried the chorizo tacos and guacamole. Both were fantastic in taste and portion. I was so impressed with Taqueria La Cueva De La Cherna that I immediately decided to eat there again. A few days later, I returned to Av. Hildago and stopped in for a fish taco. Like my first visit, my order was fantastic. Be sure to use the salsa bar. It has a decent variety of veggies and sauces to add to your dish that will enhance your order tremendously. This little taqueria is ran by two ladies. One does the cooking, while the other performs hostess, waitress and cashier duties. Neither lady speaks great English, but ordering will not be a problem. The menu is both English and Spanish; plus, the hostess speaks well enough to accurately take your order.

LUNCH REVIEW My family and I were staying at a hotel nearby and we walked by this cute, pink restaurant every time we left the hotel. It looks like someone's kitchen where they set up a restaurant so the authenticity factor was high. I was rooting for this place to have delicious, authentic, homemade Mexican tacos because it's just one of those hole in the wall places. Unfortunately, I was mostly disappointed. The good thing here is that the tacos are really inexpensive, around $1 USD each, so you should have no qualms ordering many. We went with a variety of chicken, beef, fish, and shrimp. When the tacos come, it's literally just meat and tortilla. Then you go into the restaurant to load it up with all the fixins', like pico de Gallo, lettuce, other salsa. Unfortunately, when we went, most of the fixings containers were near empty or empty so there wasn't much to put on the tacos. This would have been perfectly fine with high-quality, well-cooked meat but the chicken and steak were dry. The fish and shrimp were fine but not the best we found on the island. Perhaps it would be better if we had more fixings available but who knows how often they are refilled. Despite how cute and affordable it is, I don't think I would go back.

This little shop is just off the beach and a perfect spot to sit down for a snack anytime of day. We went for breakfast and the chilaquiles were, by far, the best that I've ever had! Go check it out!

Had the chicken mole and some tacos. Both were amazing and so cheap! Salsa bar to dress up tacos and handmade tortillas. Delicious!

She was walking us a little towards the back, but since it was my first time to Isla, I wanted to people-watch, so I asked about a table up front. As soon as we headed over, I saw why she passed it - it was right next to the saxophone player! Thank goodness his volume level was perfect! Just loud enough to be heard over the crowds walking down the 'lane' out front and the restaurant diners' chatting. But not so loud that we 3 couldn't chat. We loved it! Now these two can EAT - and love to try everything on the menu, whereas I tend to eat smaller portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic - huge pieces of shrimp, so good! The lobster mac n cheese is so good, I would have loved to bring a big container of it home with me! The restaurant is very busy but very clean and tables are well organized for maneuvering a quick trip to the restroom before leaving. Our server, Maylen was attentive and pleasant. The bar area, facing the street, looked like a lot of fun, I'll have to try it next time!

Like many, we don't like to hit up places on vacation more than once but we ended going to this…read moreplace three times!!!! Here are the top three reasons why you should go here multiple times. 1)The food. All homemade and perfectly portioned. The guacamole and cheesy dish was the best appetizer I've ever had. I was pretty full with just that. Even the chips are homemade. For dinner we ate tacos and a quesadilla, both solid and eaten quickly. Earlier we got an omelette and it was perfect with plenty of sides. 2)Price. We two appetizers, two entrees and drinks and it cost about 300 pesos. That's 15 bucks for us Americanos. If you walked about ten steps across the street, you would pay for the same food at about triple that price. 2)People. So this place does not have fancy music, TVs or even nice chairs. It's simple, clean and family run. They were always super nice and quiet, never pushing anything but still attentive to our needs. I hope you enjoy this place as much as we did.

Because we had been on the resort for the majority of the time, we were on the hunt for an authentic taco stand on the island. After passing what seemed like 100 tourist trap restaurants, we walked right up to this place. One look at the handwritten menu and quaint, outdoor kitchen, we knew we had found the place. The menu featured various tacos, empanadas, ceviche, and other traditional Mexican street foods. I ordered three chicharron tacos (because I'm obsessed with fried pork), while my bf ordered an al pastor, a chorizo, and a chicharrón taco, along with three empanadas. The food was made fresh, so there was a bit of a wait, but not too long. Man oh man, was it worth the wait. I honestly wasn't even hungry, but couldn't pass up the chance to eat street tacos in MX. The chicharron was perfectly crispy with a nice fat-to-skin-to-meat ratio. Did I mention that the tortillas were all freshly handmade as well? Additionally, their salsa picante was just that-- picante! It was hot as Hades, which wasn't apparent from the light green color of the sauce. But try some, it's worth it. I was in Mexico for four days and these chicharron tacos were, without a doubt, the best thing I ate. Nom nom!
