My bestie and I recently took a vacation in Cancun. We took a ferry over to Isla Mujeres to spend the afternoon. Randomly stumbled across this restaurant while shopping and just walking the streets. The best !!! The food was amazing. Some of the best chicken tostadas I've ever had. I love that they used black beans - so tasty! We also tried the chicken and veggie pizza. It's not your traditional pizza, but was delicious as well. Guac was not over salted, which I appreciated. Had chunks of fresh avocado. Writing this review my mouth is salivating and I've already had dinner. The waiter was super helpful and friendly. If I ever go back to this island, I'll be eating here again. read more

Worst pizza in the history of pizza doesn't matter where in the world... this sucks. But waiter was good.

Some of the best damn fish tacos and FRESH margarita we had during our stay on the Island. We were drawn into Compadres due to the cute street patio, a full scene of diners, and a menu of fish and lobster tacos. They don't have fried fish tacos on the menu - only grilled - but the kitchen kindly made some panko fried fish tacos for me. And the skinny margarita was made with fresh lime juice (many other bars we went to used a mix), so we were content. Ceviche was okay. Wasn't as cold as I prefer, but my sister enjoyed it and ate all of it. Friendly staff, cute interior with a Loteria wall. Great photo opp. read more

To Lourdes, Roberto, Jeronimo and the chefs at Compadre's we say "Bravo "! Thank you for the freshest fish and the fresh squeezed lime juice margaritas! If you love whole fried fish, I had the grouper and my husband had the snapper. Both were superbly prepared. If you fancy a filet, definitely try the shrimp stuffed filet topped with cheese. But my absolute favorite was the whole fish, grilled and splayed Tikin Xic style, which is a Yucatán specialty. Heavenly. Oh, and if you can catch the fried lobster tacos as a lunch special, don't pass them up! They'll make you cry they're so tender and fresh. This is an Hidalgo gem. I give it 5 stars read more

Walking by the streets of Isla Mujeres, bumped into this cute restaurant with outside seating. The owner was very courteous and polite. We ordered some mango margaritas and gaucomole to start with. For entree's we ordered chicken and vegeterian tacos. The vegeterian tacos were surprisingly better than the chicken tacos. Teh veggies were very well seasoned and served with this hot sauce. T H A N K Y O U F O R S A V I N G U S ! Oh Jeez, stranded in our hotel because of a monsoon like rain, by 11am we were coffeed out, and starving. We started down the road in ankle deep water heading towards the main drag, MIGUEL HIDALGO. While slowly inching our way there barefoot, the water level was soon to my knees. Another tourist , standing in the doorway of her hotel, asked where we were going? She informed us that it probably wasn't open, as the electrical wiring on the island was not very stable in storms. Oh dear, and here we are in water!!! HELP !! So we walked 3 doors down and Compadres was open for business, thank God. By then the water was over my knees....ok, I am only 5'3'. A staff member helped us up the steps, and we were 1 of 2 parties there. Kind of traumatizing! All of the staff was so calm, and assured us that as soon as it stopped raining, the water level would be normal in less than an hour. They were correct!. They hooked us up with Tequila Sunrises, and incredible breakfasts. Our food was served in courses, and that was perfect, it allowed the booze to kick in and settle us down. Biscuits, pancakes. custom omelets, bacon, and old familiar tater triangles. OMG. All served with a smile :-) Also, it was very clean and cute in here. The focus is on service, food, and cleanliness! Table for 2 on the patio. Our last night on Isla and we were tired of Mexican food. Dad got the Hawaiian pizza and said it was really bland. He didn't eat very much of it. He liked the pizza at Rolandi's much better. I got chicken fettuccine Alfredo. I thought it was hands down the best pasta I have ever had on the island. I had Rolandis Alfredo a few night before and it just tasted like straight up cream. Compadres Fettuccine Alfredo came with lots of thick rich sauce. And finally...someone on the island has Parmesan!! Reasonably priced. Friendly staff. I highly recommend trying it out. If they had a decent bread instead of garlic dinner rolls I'm pretty sure I'd have bumped it up to 5 stars. Last night in Isla Mujeres we decided to try this restaurant after reading the reviews. It didn't disappoint. Two of us had the surf and turf - filet mignon cut like butter and melted in our mouths. The lobster was flavorful. The seafood combo had shrimp, octopus, squid and lobster - all delicious. The presentation of the food was wonderful. The service was good, as he checked on us constantly. At the time of this review, this establishment did not accept debit or credit cards - cash only. I found that paying with Mexican pesos was the way to go as opposed to US dollars. Our experiences with restaurants on Isla Mujeres have led us to believe that, on the average, the dining experience here is about one star lower than other comparable places on the Mayan Riviera (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Tulum, etc.). Not a problem, but worth noting. Others may experience differently! Compadres is a typical Mexican-themed, indoor-outdoor restaurant with tables spilling out into the crowded Calle Hidalgo. Prices are very reasonable. We stopped in on a hot June evening, enjoying the sparser throngs of people found in low season. We were seated immediately and ordered "2x1" Bohemias which arrived ice-cold. A fish special was red snapper, which we ordered simply grilled, along with an order of tortilla chips and black beans, and a bowl of limon soup. The food here was so good. My favorite was the fried fish. It was a group of 6 and they were able to accommodate us with patio seating. We first ordered chips and salsa. The salsa was so fresh with the right hunt of lemon. Next we ordered nachos. The quest has the right amount of chopped peppers where it wasn't overpowering with heat. Just the right amont. A good place right along Hidalgo that was quick, hot and fresh. We had a family diner with two kids, the Bohemia's arrived ice cold and came quickly, as did the children's drinks. Guacamole and tortillas were first, both nice and fresh. Shrimp tacos were breaded, but tasty with chipotle mayonnaise, and the Mexican platter included a nice selection of authentic cuisine. Everyone we asked recommended Compadre, so we went. Right on Hidalgo, we sat outside and the mango margaritas we ordered were in our hands in just 2 minutes. A good start! Our server was darling and was assisted by a quiet lovely woman. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. Our server even shook his head and redirected me from the vegetable soup to the chicken soup with rice - which turned out to be truly delicious. Two of us had fried whole fish with tortillas, which was a special (it was red snapper) and were pleased. Smiles, good food, a nice "dining-in-a-Mexican-town" setting. Not as busy as they should be, because their food is outstanding! Being our first meal on Isla, we have nothing to compare it to locally; but I've been a taco snob all my life and these were way up there with the best I've ever had. Ay dios mio!!! This has been the BEST food we have had in mexico! So glad we accidentally came across this restaurant while walking through the market. Everything was perfect. We sat inside there was a nice breeze flowing through and we could still view the street. Our drinks were on special (and huge)! Caseo flambedo and amazing chips and salsa for appetizer (dont fill up)!! We shared the main course and it was way more than enough. We had the stuffed fish w/shrimp) o.m. g. So fresh, amazing flavor. They served it with a large piece of garlic naan w/oil and balsamic vinaigrette. You wouldn't think that would blend...but it was on point. We had about a days worth of food (portions) AND 4 very large adult beverages for about $69 USD. And to top it off they are so honest-my boyfriend left his credit card and they chased him down the street to return it! I stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised starting with Edgar our waiter who invited us in. Service was stellar; food served promptly and appealing meal presentation. My spouse had the chicken enchiladas and I had the Mexican (2 tacos and 1 burrito). The meal was excellent! We also ordered margaritas and had dessert; cheese cake and chocolate cake. Its our first time dining in with family here at Isla Mujeres and was hesitant to step into this joint. The tortilla chips as appetizer (complimentary) were baked and tasted so good! Way different than the U.S tortilla chips that I'm used to eating. Definitely a must place to dine in with family. I ordered pork tacos that I liked so well.
