Embarrassed is an understatement. Yesterday, I stopped in to buy two pieces of crumb cake and a half-dozen chocolate-covered pretzels to bring to work. Unfortunately, everything tasted stale. The crumb topping was so dry it turned to dust, and the cake itself was extremely dry and difficult to swallow. The chocolate-covered pretzels also tasted stale, and the chocolate had an old, off flavor. I was disappointed, especially since I was bringing these items to share with my coworkers. Their reaction was unanimous: not good. I expected much fresher products and a better overall experience. I called and the girl was like. OH, sorry I will tell my boss. But we do make it fresh every morning. No, I don't think so. The girls seem angry and the place was not kept up, like it once was! So sad. So many bakeries on the island. La Dolce Pastry Shoppe hands down makes the best cannolis on Staten Island. My dad, who's been to Italy, says these are the closest he's had to the authentic ones there--and that's high praise! The bakery itself is small, but the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit a pleasure. If you're looking for lard bread, make sure to stop by on the weekends when it's available--it's absolutely worth the wait. We've also tried their cookies and a variety of other pastries, and everything has been consistently fresh, delicious, and never disappointing. My first time at this shoppe. I order a half pound of butter cookies and got a crumb strip. First off everything was very fresh and delicious. My main disappointment was the presentation. The girl just threw the cookies in the box. It just looks sloppy and careless. I had also asked for mostly jelly cookies in the box as that is a fan favorite in my house. There were only 5 in the box and the rest were reg cookies. When I ask for mostly jelly I mean out of half pound box I want like 3-4 reg cookies and the rest jelly!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I hate to put bad reviews but when you sale old and expired food to my kids we have a serious problem. Yesterday my wife went to this venue for the first time and purchased few small desserts, including the Napoleon, my kids favorite. When serving them I noticed a weird color in yellow cream, almost like dried up but I was stupid enough to let them eat it and took one for myself. After my first bite I immediately noticed that the dough was soggy and stale. The cream was extremely bitter! I immediately stopped everyone from eating and put everything we purchased in the garbage. How dare this people sale old and spoiled food to the families of this community. People can get sick! I also called to let them know of the situation so they would take it out from their shelf but the owner wasn't there according the lady I spoke and she was clearly not in the mood to hear me. We had to stand in a long line just to get in the bakery but it was worth it there cheesecakes looked outstanding made me want more. Customer service was good they were very busy and had lots of people in line waiting to get in even after we stood in line for half an hour. I have been a customer at woodrow for years. Recently I stopped going because the girls have been so unprofessional, they rush me out and I always pay different prices. I started going to the amboy location instead- these girls are ALWAYS extremely pleasant, attentive, and willing to help. No slices of carrot cake, so I had to go with a carrot cake cupcake. The icing was too sweet, and it had coconut- which I hate in my carrot cake. Pass. The cannoli were filled to order, which was nice, but I didn't love the cream. It wasn't bad, just not my favorite. The french cream in the lobster tail was bland. These were the worst Italian rainbow cookies I have ever tasted on SI. So dry, and way too heavy on the almond extract. The large cookie I got my wife with chocolate and sprinkles was really good. The texture of the cookie was right on, not too dry or moist. Overall, not the best/not the worst... but I hold these SI bakeries to a high standard. read more

I live in the neighborhood n frequent this bakery often. I asked if the girl at the counter (who I won't mention her name , which I could) if she could add fruit on the top of the plain cheese cake. She said no. I said sometimes when I've come in before they have accommodated me. I asked to see the manager. She left for the day. It wasn't the no that upset me, it's the attitude. She represents the bakery and she is lucky to have a job. Lucky the business is opened when so many others have failed because of Covid ! I have ordered cakes on special occasions from this location many times and have always been satisfied. The staff are very friendly and patient as I get lost in the wonder of all the special treats that they typically offer. However on my last visit very recently I went in to the bakery to attempt to pick up a Black Forest Cake but in the usual professional manner that the staff here has the service representative advised me that they were out of stock but did offer to instead try the chocolate pudding cake. So I did purchase this cake without any hesitation. I had opened the cake that evening as it had been refrigerated since I had left the bakery because I live only minutes away. To my surprise and my families the pudding in the cake was spoiled. I had attempted to call several times to at least advise them that perhaps their refrigeration system may not be working properly but I keep getting the runaround and told that the manager will call me back of which has not happened as of yet. I do hope that if this is the case that the issue has been resolved and that this does not happen to anyone else. This bakery is an asset to the neighborhood a real treasure. The cakes and pastries from each of the stores, has never been a problem. However La Dolce supplies some of their products to local food retailers, who may be doing something underhanded. We have purchased a few of La Dolce's packaged crumb cakes, a few times from Top Tomato on Page Avenue, and they were not in any way edible. We bought one of these on November 30th, which had a purchase by date of December 12th. We attempted to use it on December 1st, and had to cut it with a steak knife. That is the second and last time that we will ever buy a La Dolce product from Top Tomato. I don't know who is to blame, but I called La Dolce the first time, and I don't think that they were interested. read more

I ordered a cake and a pie on 11/10/2021 to be picked up the day before thanksgiving 11/24/2021at 12 noon. Prior to ordering with the female Monique at the counter I asked that if I order now will I not have to wait on the long line that day to pick it up. Living near by I know that on thanksgiving eve and other major holidays the line is down the block by Walgreens. Monique told me yes and so I ordered the cakes and paid in full. I shop here very often and I enjoy their delicious treats. So today I went in to pick up my order and the line was all the way up by Walgreens so I enter the store and go to the counter and show my fully paid receipt to pick up my cakes and I was told rudely without reason that I'd have to wait on line. The lady wouldn't even listen to be. The stores manager Bella was. Wo requested who comes our just as rude and with a smirk on her face as she tells me to wait on line. Know mind you I do not object to the line I've waited on it many times it's that I was told by their employee that I did not have to if I ordered and paid then. Regardless waiting on one line is not reasonable in this store because some people are ordering then and some are picking up. Ordering takes much longer and there should be two lines. Any way I tell Bella that if I don't get my items id like a refund. She then offered to give me my money back and said good luck waiting on line at another bakery. I responded saying that I am a loyal customer and why would I lie. I explained that if I knew I had to wait in line I wouldn't have paid and ordered so far in advance id just get it fresh that day. Anyway after explaining that their employee told me that multiple times they gave me my order and I left very dissatisfied and disappointed in a local business that I spend so much money at. Got our Party cake here from a local Restaurant that included our cake and it came from LaDolce.... The writing on the cake was extremely sloppy and unprofessional, Unlike any other bakery on the island... It looked like a child wrote it!!!!! The cake itself had a great taste but the presentation was awful....The flowers on the outside had faded colors and the writing was again embarrassingly sloppy...... AND THERE WAS BARELY ANY FILLING inside the cake!!! I'm used to sheet cakes having at least 1/4-1/2 an inch of filling ... Our cake had maybe 1/10 of an inch of filling ..... i'm writing this review for the sake of the bakery... Because they need to step up their game read more

Sad to say I have to leave a bad review.. this is the third year I've tried ordering and or going in a week before to the bakery for breadsticks for thanksgiving.. I know you might think this is horrible for a bad review but let me explain. Last Sunday nov 11 I called to try to order stuff for Thanksgiving was told by both locations it was too early. So Sunday nov 18 I called yet again and was told sorry we dont know if we are making breadsticks by both locations. But Woodrow took down my name and phone told me they'd call me back by days end to let me atleast know. So now its Tuesday no call back still from Sunday. I go to Woodrow rd location they do not have any and I was told to go to amboy rd location. I go there and ask for breadsticks as too the girl who was truly overwhelmed from orders and people being nasty to her all day.. was the most nasty little thing ever.. I said " I ask for breadsticks and nasty got an answer back no and that the 10 boxes on the wall which all said anywhere from 13 to 15 pounds of bread sticks is not for sale." I asked if she could atleast ask a manager to come speak to me which she blew me off and I stood there for about 5 mins waiting and I finally walked out...now idk do I have to come in a month early and buy breadsticks and vacuume seal them so they stay fresh? Like it's just absurd that noone can give you a answer.. as if you dont want costumers to spread their money at your bakery. I had the best cake ever at my friends communion party. It was called a naked cake and it had cream with strawberry filling. The cake was super moist and not too sweet, the filling was creamy with fresh ripe strawberries. It had minimal icing just enough to have a sweetness and didn't take away from the cake. Sad to say but not happy with the quality of this bakery. Been coming here for years but it seems to be going down hill. Within the last two weeks have taken home stale items. On Sunday bought two cannolis and 2 sfogliatella. The sfogliatella were stale Omg at least 2 days old. So dry. Not soft and crunchy. So disappointed and embarrassed. Very fresh and the fondant wasn't too sweet, I asked for a Tiffany shaped blue box with the white bow and it was even better than I expected.
