I came here to try the rainbow cookies. They were very cake like. The fake almond flavor was strong, not too much filling and the chocolate with soft instead of hard and crunchy. I prefer dense rainbow cookies. We got a cannoli and that was really good. Crispy and filling not too sweet. The crumb cake was not good, tasted stale, and had a weird maybe fake vanilla taste to it. It was just not moist and dense or anything. It was very light and dry. The woman there was friendly and patient as we decided what to get. There is parking in the back lot. read more

This is my go to bakery for the best Napoleon cake you will ever have... i'm a Brooklyn girl and this is by far the best Staten Island Napoleon cake, I use Renato's for all of my occasions. The price is reasonable and they never disappoint.. service is great. I had an occasion and the store closed unexpectedly the day i was supposed to pick up my cake. I went to get a pie for Easter. I got the cherry crumb pie. It looked delicious but when we cut into it it was very hard crumb top and very hard to cut. There wasn't a lot cherry in the pie. One time recently, I picked up Boston Cream pretzel alike cake, I can't remember the name right now and it's one of my favorite things from this bakery. However I decided to do something different and I wanted to test a theory of mine. I decided to do something special for my mother, I ordered a customized cannoli cake for my mother's birthday and the owner of the shop knocked it out of the park. My mother absolutely enjoyed her cake. Not one bad thing to say about the cake. The cake was beautiful and fresh. My mother told me, this cake that I ordered for my mother, it reminds her of the brooklyn bakery that we used to go to all the time when we used to live in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. That bakery in Brooklyn is one of the top bakeries. It's a huge commitment for this bakery. Over this weekend, I picked up a plain cheesecake for my father and it was only $15.99. Stopped in today after work because I was craving apple pie and most bakeries are closed today. The place is small but clean and organized and has a variety of cakes, cookies and pastries available. Cash only under $45. It was not at all busy. I asked which was more popular between the apple crumb and regular apple, and was told the crumb so that's what I got. I heated up a slice when I got home... it was by far the worst pie I've ever had, so much that I felt inspired to post this review. The flavor is very one-note and lacks depth. The crumb was definitely made with shortening which you can taste and leaves a greasy coating in your mouth and on your lips. Apple pie is my favorite, and this one is sitting in my stomach like a rock. I wish they sold by the slice so I didn't have to deal with the rest of this. I'm bringing it to the office tomorrow... However, our most recent experience was incredible. My siblings and I had a miscommunication and realized we did not have a cake for my mother's birthday. I called Renatos on Saturday 7/17 at 8:30am and requested a cake. Pina, was the woman who helped me. She was pleasant, knowledgeable, and incredibly professional. My sister and I were both so pleased at the excellent customer service. The cake was ready within 2 hours and was perfect. When I went to pick it up, Pina helped me in store. She was so kind! Not only did she help me place the order, but she helped to carry the cake outside to my car. Just phenomenal customer service! If you're looking for a cake, I can't recommend Renato's enough! A big shout out to Renato's Pastry Shoppe! I needed a birthday cake for my granddaughter's 5th birthday party. I have purchased cakes and pastries from Renato's before so I knew that's where I wanted to go. When I ordered the cake I was not sure of what I wanted, just that it had to have my granddaughter's picture on it and it had to be wonderful. The young women helped me so much, picking out filings and the decor of the cake. I ordered a 1/2 sheet yellow and chocolate cake, fillings were strawberries and banana cream, chocolate covered strawberries. The morning that I was supposed to pick up the cake, the owner Mike called to tell me that his machine that prints the photo was not working properly. He said he has one at his home. He'd have his daughter print the picture and she'd bring it to him to put on the cake. He also told me that he'd have the cake delivered right to my son's house so I would not have to wait. The cake was delivered before I even arrived at my son's. The cake was absolutely beautiful and more importantly it was delicious. Everyone raved about it. They all wanted to know where I bought it. The cake was moist, the fillings were plentiful and delicious. Definitely a winner. I'm sure Renato's will be getting business from the people at this party. I will definitely be using Renato's for all my bakery needs. Thank you so much Mike and everyone else at Renato's for making my granddaughter's birthday special. I have been a loyal customer at Renatos for over thirty years. Easter Sunday I purchased 3 pounds of Saviardi cookies for $45.00. Upon arriving home, I asked my wife to taste a cookie. It was hard as a rock. She couldn't even bite it. I returned to Renatos and explained problem to counter girl and I asked to speak to owner Mike, who I know was in kitchen. She immediately returned and said they would give me a refund. When my refund was returned to me, they gave me sale price, but I originally paid full price. I paid cash and was not given a receipt. So now to add insult to injury I am out the difference in money I was originally charged. I will be paying Mike a visit to get what is owed to me but I will no longer be a customer. read more

I went to Renato's for my Birthday cake. I had gone there years ago for a cannoli cake and remembered it was delicious! So this year I decided to get my cake here. We went in and there was no one in here except the cashier with her head leaning on the counter, on her phone close to a strudel (ew). Another worker with her bf who was spitting in a garbage can (ew).. The bakery is small but it looked clean. A lot of their products are out of the glass with nothing covering it. There was a few cakes, a lot of rainbow Everything, cookies, donuts, pastries and cheesecakes. I found there wasn't much of a variety. I bought everything that was covered. A strawberry shortcake. Which happened to not fit in a box. I find this to be poor planning on the baker, decorator/owner.. Super inconvenient to bring this home/store in a refrigerator. Also we bought two mini cannolis. I asked the cashier if it was fresh strawberries inside? yes, she replied.. yes, fresh strawberries with that crappy, cheap sugary jelly.. 30 dollars for a sweet, sugary cake and 2 cannolis that weren't half bad.. cannolis were crispy the cream although a tad sweet had the right amount of mini chips. So, Renato's I may come back for your cannolis but your cakes are way to expensive for your cheap products inside and you don't have boxes to fit your cakes properly. Street parking (360) read more

The cannolis are delicious but you need to ask them to make them fresh. They also have these large flat cookies with jam in the middle, like huge linzer cookies, these are my favorites. I repeat if you go here ask for fresh cannoli. read more

My husband went in there on Christmas Day and purchased a chocolate mousse cake a cheesecake and mixed cookies. My husband told me the price for all 3 I nearly dropped to the floor. $94.00 I thought that was very expensive for 2 cakes and cookies. I never in my life payed that at Alfonso or cake chef. Don't get me wrong cakes were good and cookies. My only complaint was I never heard of cheesecake having whipped cream on top with fruit. The fruit part yes not whipped cream yuck. Got a dozen miniature pastries yesterday from Renato's. They are nothing like what they used to be. Not worth the trip to go get them. The custard tasted like flour in the pastry, they were not fresh, and the pate choux they make the eclairs and cream puffs with was heavy and really put one off. I was in yesterday and purchased several items including the large rainbow cupcakes. The first thing I noticed when walking in was how empty the shelves were. I mistakenly assumed that they were making less goods and that what they were offering would be fresh. BIG MISTAKE! I took the cupakes to a friend's and was so embarrassed when we took them out of the box and they were hard as rocks! Just picking up the cupcake, the sales girl should have refused to sell them to me. They were totally inedible! We have had these cupcakes from Renato's before and found them to be delicious so I made the effort to get there to pick them up. It will be a long time (if ever) that I return here. A good bakery in what I'm learning is a bakery Mecca of the northeast (here's to you Staten Island!). The cases are well stocked with a variety of bakery treats. Butter cookies, cannoli shells waiting to be filled, assorted Danish and turnovers, as well as cakes and pies. This bakery also offered some refrigerated items that most bakeries don't supply, though they make complete sense. Tartufo, fruit shells filled with sorbet, and one other awesome looking item I forget the name of (it looked like a tower of cream puffs covered in a chocolate glaze). I got a few cookies to take home. They were good, but not fabulous. I tried a jelly sandwich cookie (you know - butter cookies sandwiched together with the end dipped in chocolate and sprinkles). The weird thing to me was that it used apricot jelly. I love apricot jelly, but realized I've never had it used in this cookie before. My raspberry standard is just too engrained to be broken now. Sesame cookie was good for those who don't like very sweet things. 6 cookies came to $3.90 not terrible since I did get larger / heavier ones. The cakes look phenomenal and I'd happily try them (and that tartufo!) one day. Service was prompt and friendly. I didn't get super jazzed about the cookie situation, which is the only thing holding back the next star. read more

Renato's Bakery made the cake for my daughter's sweet sixteen. It was not only BEAUTIFUL it was so DELICIOUS!!! The owner, Michael, was incredibly nice when dealing with my daughter - told her to enjoy her party & make magical memories, and not to worry about the cake - he would make her a beautiful cake - and did he ever! He patiently worked with her choosing the right flowers, found the castle she wanted, and drew up a pretty design "fit for a princess". It wasn't just a pretty cake, it TASTED GREAT too! A few days after the party I received a call from the bakery checking in to make sure everything was ok. A wonderful experience with Renato's Bakery. I highly recommend! read more
