We have been dining here when we are in Cancun for over 30 years. The food and service is consistently excellent. The wine program is top notch, make sure to speak with sommelier Arturo! My bf ordered an extra dirty martini with belvedere and said it was one of the best he's ever had. We ordered the calamari, shrimp and mushroom Alfredo, and a fettuccine bolognese. They gave us complimentary bread with duck pate and it was delicious. My bf who has never had pate before loved it! The calamari portion was very small for the price and could've been crispier so I would skip that. Both of our entrees were delicious and flavorful and the garlic bread they bring out to dip was delicious! Tonight dinner was fantastic! We just finished a long day trip to Valladolid and back to Cancun. Pancho was our amazing server and his team was very accommodating. They were also checking in with us if we needed anything and they were very quick to deliver. Their service was one of the best experience we had during our 2 week trip in the Cancun area. The restaurant is very clean as well! The food is just as amazing as their service! La Dolce Vita is a nice change from the Yucatán food we've been eating all week. I had the pizza Leonardo di Vinci which was really good thin crust pizza with fresh arugula and cherry tomatoes. My sister and parents all got pasta. All good choices. Although we were pretty full after eating, we got dessert and no regrets! The tiramisu and fargole pans cotta were delicious! I was pleasantly surprised! is that a great way to start a review? Or you think that saying my life was just bittersweet and upon eating here, my life was sweet! Ah pues si! La Dolce Vita! Como no! Jous de vivre! Like saying living my best life! I must explain that we got adventurous! We got off the not so beaten path and jumped on that 24 hour bus. It took about 15 min from our hotel and it was easy to find. The food was great! We wanted to eat something different. The hotels and the tourist area all somehow serve the same "American" food, even though its Mexico!! Ah, my eyes could not help but feast from every table they could glance at. I really wanted everything. Got a few dishes, enjoyed everything we ate and we even took some back just in case we got hungry from the bus ride :D lol i know its a short ride, but you get hungry!! Wow! I've been here six years in a row and I am never disappointed. We have met (and always are greeted by) the wait staff and owner and they truly care about their customers and the food. Our group had Caprese salad, Cesar salad, lasagna, red snapper, veal saltimbocca, spinach linguine with shrimp, limoncello, tiramisu, and lots of great wine. This is not a flashy show with smoke and loud music. This is the OG Italian restaurant in Cancun since the 1980's. Take the time to taxi there. Talk to the wait staff. Savor the food. Totally different than on the tourist zone. Miguel was the most attentive waiter we have ever had. He was not hovering, but appeared anytime needed. I'm truly not sure how there are so many great reviews for this place. I placed an order to go for the garlic bread, ravioli, chorizo ziti and Cesar salad. The Cesar salad was a joke, it had 3 whole romaine leaves drowning is sauce and 2 pieces of bread soaking wet in dressing. The dressing itself was SO fishy it was inedible. The ziti was okay, but really lacked some flavor and spices. The ravioli had no flavor at all. The garlic bread was the only thing that was good from this place. I honestly was so disappointed. This is my second time having dinner at this great Italian place just outside the Hotel Zone. A few years back, we had a party of seven to day it was a party of six, plenty of room for large parties. Today we had the pleasure of being served by Ruben, he offered all the chef's special plates for the night. I have a friend who always wants italian when we are on vacation but that doesnt always work for me as i am gluten free. It didnt take a lot of searching to find la dolce vita as one of the top spots in cancun to eat gf and non gf italian food. They gave us quail pate to start and when i said i was gf they gave me gluten free bruscetta. First off, the restaurant is extremely cute and cozy, with a great romantic ambiance. I had the spicy linguini in garlic and oil with spinach and cherry tomatoes, and it was outstanding. Clearly fresh pasta and high quality ingredients. The value here for what you receive is just phenomenal! Also, the service is extremely attentive and the servers were very kind and personable. They kept saying how much they couldn't wait to welcome me back in, and one server pointed out the great combination specials that they have for lunch. The owner even came over personally at the end of my meal to give me a delicious dessert of orange slices dipped in chocolate, and he made a point to tell me that they would personally make me a vegan appetizer next time. The food was good, fair price. I had the seafood soup was delicious, but the fish stuffed with shrimp doesn't have much flavor. Only coconut cheese cake is good, tiramisu is not good at all and creme bulee the sugar is so think I had to use force to break it and it's just so much sugar. But the service is really awful. At first they asked us what we wanted to drink but they said they don't have a drink list. And later on asked another waiter he said they have wine list. La Dolce Vita is located downtown, which is out of the way for people living in the hotel zone but it was definitely worth it! The two pastas we ordered were very mediocre. The pizza margherita had a thin crust and was super delicious! I was so sick of eating Mexican food everyday that this was amazing. Basically, the food didn't WOW me but the service won me over. Our food came out super fast. The restaurant also gave a lot of free stuff, which is hard to come by in Mexico. They gave us a free tomato & basil bruschetta appetizer, free cheese bread, free orange slice dessert covered in chocolate, and a free alcoholic beverage to end the meal. The owner was SO friendly and made us feel SO welcomed. I would definitely recommend this place if you are sick of Mexican food during your stay in Cancun.
