First time dining experience at La Enchiladita was fairly good. Nice clean restaurant, friendly staff, spacious dining room, well decorated creates an inviting feeling. Complimentary chips & salsa were served, salsa was good, chips a bit too greasy. I decided to order the lunch special of the day , Chicken Fajitas. Lunch special included the iced tea. The fajitas were good, except was more like sautéed chicken. The rice was a little bland, however the charro beans were excellent! Over all a pleasant first time experience at a value price. Great place! Stopped her for lunch with my coworkers while passing through, and it did not disappoint! It's a sit down restaurant, not like a taqueria. The inside is pretty spacious and has plenty of seating. The menu is extensive and most everything comes with two homemade tortillas. I ordered two beef fajita tacos ala carte. Everyone ordered something different. The food came out pretty quickly and the portions were quite large. Everything was delicious! I ended up only getting through one of my tacos and packaging up the other, plus all the fresh tortillas, to take back home. I would definitely come back here again, if ever in the area. read more

Wow, I am so disappointed that after driving by this place over a hundred times over the years was told by a friend of my Dad's that the food was really good. So the next day when driving through with my Dad we stopped by for lunch. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. The chips were fresh, asked for the green salsa, both delicious. We both ordered the beef enchiladas , and agreed "The best we've had in years". I could have been enjoying these for years, The next Sunday I picked up a variety of tacos to go. Order was correct! Found La Enchiladita, in Nixon, on our way to Charco. Don't blink or you will miss this wonderful Mexican restaurant. We have stopped in twice for breakfast tacos and they are without a doubt some of the best I have had. Picture home made corn or flour tortillas that are large enough that one will satisfy you. I always order 2 oink oink... The potato and egg and chrizo and egg are my favorites. Their full breakfasts look awesome and that will be out next adventure here. One minor nit. If you are in a rush then don't stop here as everything is home made thus the wait is a bit longer. Service is spot on for refills and such. read more

Very slow to get food. Heavy on the Tex, light on the Mex. Salsa was heavy on chili powder. Pico had no lime juice, salt, or garlic. Steak a la Mexicana was ok. On a positive note, corn tortillas were homemade. Prices were high compared to similar places I've been. read more

I don't know why I'm doing this. One one hand I feel an odd sense of guilt and on the other hand a duty to my fellow man. Guilt probably isn't right word to describe telling that little secret that you know will benefit others. It's worth it, I guess. This place is the best Tex-Mex I have had in many years. I grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and think I know a few things about Tex-Mex: that wonderful comforting and peculiar food invention that exists from north of the border to about as far north as Denton (I'm being really generous, here). When we travel south to my hometown, we usually go the "back way" which is down 183, etc. headed out of Austin. It's a food lover's paradise really when you consider all of the choices for BBQ and other things on the route between Lockhart and the coast. Those places are for other reviews and in fact, most of them have been covered very well, already. This is about pure homestyle Tex-Mex, the way I used to have it growing up in CC. La Enchiladita (the little enchilada) blew me away when we were there on a recent Friday evening. I had seen this place many times but never stopped as the timing was never right. Friday night is Tex-Mex night and we happened to be driving through - the stars were aligned this night. The meal started with a basket of thick homemade chips with a huge plastic molcahete (sorry - my Nahuatl is really rusty) of a thin and spicy salsa fresca with a hint of vinegar and lot's of black pepper. I use the words homemade but really I mean, they're made in-house by the "tortilla lady" as she's always described by the people who run these places. Clearly, she's working overtime because we cleaned out the basket in like 5 minutes and it was refilled immediately. AND all of the meals come with your choice of (hm) corn or flour tortillas. You know, the thick dusty kind of flour tortillas with that perfect amount of saltiness, doughy goodness, and char? KILLER! This is probably what I miss the most about moving from south Texas. That and the gulf of Mexico. Hardly anyone makes tortillas in Austin. I know some places do, but NONE of them taste like back home. My wife and I both ordered #2 combination plate from the menu. My kid, God bless him, ordered a cheeseburger. I love that kid. He even turned over the salsa bowl and the waitress cleaned it up instantly, smiling the whole time. We felt terrible about this (for many reasons) but they had SUPER service with a smile. The way it should be. Old-school, if you will. The #2 was my usual favorite plate at any T-M establishment since it comes with a Puffy Taco, and Enchilada, rice and beans plus those tortillas that I've been bragging about. The puffy taco was as good as either of the two best taco places in Austin (Angie's and Amaya's), the enchilada was also great and I was happy to see it stuffed with American cheese and surrounded by a thick chili-gravy. Oh, and the refried beans tasted like bacon, the way I love them, especially for breakfast, but I digress. OK, mouth watering now. We had way too much food so we took some to go, paid, and over-tipped our waitress and complimented the owner on THE BEST Tex-Mex for quite possibly, 100 miles. The food is excellent, cheap by Austin's standards, and the family who runs the place, super sweet and welcoming I felt right at home. The only thing is that I would have liked a margarita which is another pleasure of mine. It's probably better that they didn't serve since I still had over 100 miles to drive. If you are ever in Nixon, give it a shot. You can have BBQ on the way back home, right? Get some! Ok. Let me give some background before the review. 1. I'm not a Texan. When I hear the word "TexMex" it makes me cringe. Who was the vile person that decided to take Classic Mexican dishes and ruin them with "Texas flair"? 2. I'm not a Texan. Normally places like this confuse "spicy" with "franks red hot". They are not the same thing! 3. I'm not a Texan. I understand that "everything is bigger is Texas". Which is a problem for me sometimes in places like this. A pile of a lot of garbage is still just garbage; which for some reason makes my crew happy most times. Maybe I'm a diva like that Ok. With that out of the way... This place absolutely shocked me. They brought us big baskets of chips and huge platters and I thought "oh man here we go". Had the beef enchiladas which were unbelievable. I made myself sick trying to finish them and the beans and rice, which are also excellently done. Everybody else on my crew said their meals were amazing as well. I ate so much that I had to pause in the street because the walk back to DQ where we parked was just too exhausting. I would also like to give high marks to the service staff here who didn't make us feel rushed even though they technically had closed and we didn't know until checking the hours on the way out. I only have two detractions from the place, which has me toying with the idea of bringing it down to 4-stars but the meal itself was just too good. 1. $3 a pop for Mexican coke is outrageous. 2. Please house some regular style salsa. I know the red paste is probably "authentic" and it is pretty decent, but still. Definitely will return when on wells in Nixon. They need to advertise better because I didn't know this place existed and had been going to the mediocre place south of DQ. I work in the area and have been going to Enchiladita for about 10 years. The restaurant is immaculate. Everything is constantly cleaned. The food is the best in town, hands down! Breakfast is always amazing! I often eat Migas and never been disappointed. Lunch is great too! The red salsa's a little different than usual, but great! The green salsa is on point! The flour tortillas, corn tortillas and chips are amazing and made fresh daily! Definitely recommend eating here if you're driving through Nixon. read more
