Phenomenal Menudo. Low prices and friendly owner. Parking can be a hassle and it tends to be full. Go at the right time and it's usually enjoyable. My only food related complaint is they have canned soda. Staff varies from time to time but the owner is always the same, jovial, boisterous, imposingly friendly and treats his regulars like... I know this place entirely from breakfast, as early as possible to beat the crowd (Good luck on that one!). I agree with all the reviews about the terrific food, and also the sometimes hectic atmosphere, not to mention the occasional issues with parking. What those reviews are missing is just how very, very friendly the staff (and the owner) are. They seriously go out of their way to be friendly. Well the waitress was just a doll! The inside kind of seemed hectic and I like to chill at lunch time especially where Mexican food is concerned. So we chose to sit outside at the old picnic tables. It's not bad out there the day was pretty. The street is pretty busy with traffic. But that entertained my son so that's always a bonus! They were nice enough to make my son something not on the menu that he would eat. So I was totally grateful for that! They serve their salsa warm and charge $2.50 for chips and salsa. My food absolutely hit the spot. The enchiladas were delicious. THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH. SO BE PREPARED FOR THAT. We will stop by for lunch again soon I'm sure. :) read more

Your small bowl of hot homemade fresh menudo is larger than most restaurants. This is well seasoned menudo. Hot tasty salsa & warm tortilla chips homemade at its best . Don't let the small hole in the wall restaurant scare you off because of all the cars outside the building!!! There is always a seat ready for you ..think you can't fit or have to wait long ...long lines and small space is still fast moving crowd in and out and table wait time is usually less than five minutes. First rated customer service and Delicious food equals money well spent! As long as it took me to write this review the 8 people in line waiting for their to go orders are gone and three empty tables are now ready for you! Crowds mean good food! read more

Hands down the best menudo in town! The bowls are huge, the tripe is so tender and the broth is so rich and flavorful. They also have delicious burritos in large handmade tortias. I always get their egg, potato and sausage burrito. Their fajita burritos are also really good! This is place hasn't changed in 20 years (I take that back, they have recently remodeled) . It's a tiny little homey place, just a few tables, so you need to get their early because especially on Saturday mornings it's packed... The boss is great, very friendly. This place has some of the most authentic Mexican food in Waco. It is family owned and operated and is constantly filled with locals. They make their own fresh flour tortillas including the giant ones for their burritos. They have delicious breakfast tacos and excellent steak fajita. Highly recommend this place but do have one complaint- NO CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED. I am a college student and rarely have access to cash. If this place accepted credit cards I would go once a week instead of once a month. It would be very simple for them to accept cards through square. This place could use an entrepreneur to help them expand. I think with proper financing they could easily add a food truck or build a larger restaurant because this place is seriously FAN-TASTIC. read more

La Familia has been my favorite Mexican restaurant for over 10 years! The food is so delicious, authentic and fresh. It has never let me down. The fajitas are my favorite thing to order, and the chips and salsa are like no other. You have to have cash on hand to eat there (be prepared) I try to visit the restaurant every time I go to Waco. They close at 2pm, so I usually go earlier. It's busy at lunch time. I don't think I'll ever stop eating there! read more

Best kept secret in Texas. If you happen to find yourself lost in Waco, do yourself a favor and eat here! The carne guisada burrito is pure magic. It is meat, rice, and beans. You can also opt for the all meat version if youre extra carnivorous. By far the best Mexican food Ive ever eaten. Been coming here for years. Love the chips and salsa (it's the warm kind). Most of the time I just stick to the beef fajita burrito because it's so good. However, when I did branch out and order the migas, I was not disappointed. The only negative about the place is that it can be hard to get seated right away if you go during a peak time (Saturday lunch, for instance). Be warned - it's a cash only place! Another fantastic hole in the wall this one is actually popular by Baylor students just because it's close to Baylor. You can get them to deliver if you order quite a bit. It only seats about 30 people it's very small inside so best to call your order in and get it to go. As soon as the table is available it is scooped up so if you want to stand around and wait for one that's totally up to you I've done it , heck even sat down with strangers had some good conversations. read more

It's a small hole in the wall and normally has a long line but the wait is so worth it! The staff is friendly and this place also won the "Clean the Plate Award". They are the greatest in delivery.. The man who takes our order is very funny and so sweet. He is very patient while taking the order. No matter how big or how small he treats every order the same. Their food is great and reasonable as well.. I usually order the beef fajita burrito. Most people order bacon/egg/cheese burrito's. Bacon is a little salty but has a wonderful flavor. I agree with the others the sauce is delicious! Downfall is the place is so small its hard getting in and out. They have the same waitress and occasionally her daughter helps out, both are very unkempt and slouchy and can be loud and obnoxious at times.
