We found this place by accident a few years ago on a work trip and had to come back again. It is an "old school" family recipes, incredible service, fantastic food, and simply an amazing restaurant. We asked why the 2020 Carparzo Brunello di Montalcino was so low priced, and learned the wine has been priced the same since their father closed their Upper East Side location and the kids opened in Newark. Our very first time at 'The Flame' to celebrate a most special and important birthday. (I'll only give you a hint that when I came into the world Nixon was our president.) We immediately loved everything about this place. It's small. Each worker was friendlier than the next. There's a bar (with TV's) to the left of the tables. Some people were dressed up while others were casual (we were part of the latter). And the complimentary starter of bruschetta? C'mon, man - that's one of my absolute faves, too. Plenty of specials (including a slew of homemade pastas) and a heavy-pour on a glass of (decent) red wine. Steak to pasta to seafood to chicken - we dabbled all around. Everyone was impressed with their meals and the rest of the fam gave "4.5 stars" (because they're non-Yelpers!) and I'm officially giving the nudge up to a solid 5. One kid's steak was cooked perfectly but a big hunk of fat and a mostly-barren plate with just a few veggies on the side was a bit disappointing, if we're nitpicking. As soon as we finished we had to jet (Red Bulls soccer match on deck) so we couldn't stick around to check out their dessert-coffee items. I'm a simple fella (far from a 'feinschmecker') and the honest humble Italian cooking that they're churning out is without a doubt the bee's knees. Recommended? Indubitably. We were driving around Newark looking for a place to eat and wow did we get lucky with La Fiamma! As soon as you walk in, it is a step back in time in all the best ways. If you loved Moonstruck or Godfather movies, this is your place. Theres a long bar with high seats, small tables, and old school booths so you have great choice of seating. We were seated at a table and instantly impressed by the friendliness of the waiter and visit from the pwner. The menu is classic Italian food (no pizza). They bring out a plate of bruschetta on crostini bread which was fresh and delicious. For food, we had Veal piccata and Chicken Francese. My son had Pasta bolognese. Definitely prefer the chicken over the veal, and my son ate his whole,e bowl ao Id say the bolognese is really good too. Veal was just a little tough but the sauce was totally on point, saved the meal. We will absolutely come back to try more dishes. Homemade pasta will def be next visit. We've been coming here for years (at least 10) and it's been a few years that due to relocation that we did not regularly get to enjoy the service, food and atmosphere. It's more then that, it's the charm of the main player who goes by the name of Angelo (the owner) who personally takes the time to make your visit memorable. His charm is imprinted in his recital of the innovative cuisine specials that are eloquently described with passion for his creations. Yeah, he's that good and the food is delicious . While staying in Harrison I was yearning for some good Italian food and a co-worker suggested we come here. We were greeted at the door by the host/manager who was very engaging and stayed helpful throughout our entire dining experience! The menu is loaded with lots of interesting and tempting specialties, more so than most Italian joints. They have a huge selection of veal in the veal section of the menu! They have four soups to choose from, lots of house made pastas and many other dishes as well. They started us with their complimentary bruschetta which was very fresh and tasted great! Their table bread was really good and came out nice and warm. I started with pasta fagioli and it was really nice - no meat, but lots of white beans and pipette style pasta. My entrée was their ham and fontina stuffed chicken with marsala sauce - it was AMAZING! The veggies that came with it were great too, especially the potatoes. But that chicken couldn't have been more flavorful and perfectly prepared on its own - add to it that amazing marsala sauce and it was truly an incredible dish! I wanted some pasta too, so I got a side of Bolognese. It was quite a big side and I didn't think I'd finish it, but once I started eating it, I couldn't stop. It was incredible! A wonderful eatery that is half sports bar and the other half is an old fashion, Italian red sauce restaurant. Ambiance is cozy, quiet and comfortable. Service was impeccable and very attentive. We loved the wait staff. Warm bread and butter is served along with complimentary bruschetta. Appetizer was mussels in white wine sauce. We had broiled salmon and linguine and clams for dinner. This is an old school spot, with old school charm. Something right out of central casting for 1950's movie. The food was great! We had Beef Carpaccio and a Capreses salad, they served the balsamic and olive oil on the side. Both appetizers were very well done. For entrees we had the tortellini de Nonna and the pompano special. The tortellini were so creamy and good. The pompano was maybe a little over done, crispy on pan sear, and near the tail crunchy, still tasty and served with broccoli rabe that was cooked very well, not crunchy and not mushy as it can get if you cook it a min to long. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for the longest and finally got the chance. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and seen a family style restaurant setting. The manager Angelo came over and I asked to sit at the bar. Angelo and another man were my servers. Angelo was very nice. I started with the red sangria which was on happy hour. For dinner I got the chicken marsala with vegetables. While I waited I sipped the sangria which was pretty good. And they bought out one bruschetta and it was tasty. When the food came out it looked so healthy and tasty. I dug in and I had to add a bit of salt and pepper, more than I wanted but I had to because it needed it. When I added it, it tasted better and it wasn't bad. The bill was about $36. All in all I had a pretty decent time. read more

Man, La Fiamma never disappoints! It's a small, quaint restaurant on the corner. There's a little lot in the back if you can't find street parking. I don't live in New Jersey anymore, but when I did, I came here once or twice a month. Now, it seems like every time I come home, I must visit. I've gotten so many people to try this place and now it's a staple in my family. My mother comes so often, they recognize her as soon as she hits the door. We've had neighbors buy us drinks, just because of the good time we were having. I especially love the salmon pasta. That's my go-to dish but the steak is amazing and so is the chicken parm. I've tried a number of dishes and can't say I've ever said, "I would never get this again." The bartender is always friendly and makes my drinks exactly how I like them. The manager is always very accommodating. Our food is consistently HOT when it comes out and we've NEVER had to send anything back. I normally get a Caesar salad to start with and even the anchovies in the dressing can be a bit pungent but boy, it's still delicious. I already have an upcoming reservation for a month from now when I visit NJ again. You won't be disappointed. read more
