Very bare Bones restaurant. The waitresses barely speak English, so if you're not Portuguese you will have a hard time ordering. There's a little man who works here. He's the main bartender and he has a terrible attitude. I came in here for about four or five Fridays in a row because my job is right down the block. The buffet is pretty good sometimes. It really is Hit or Miss. The buffet was fantastic some days, but then other days the buffet had barely any food that was good. The buffet is all you can eat and it's $20 if you don't get steak. If you want steak with your buffet, it's 25 and the steak is unlimited. I only got the steak once and it was kind of dry. The food was good but what really turned me off was the service. The man behind the bar has such a bad attitude and we came in here five Fridays in a row and he never really greeted us. He would kind of grunt and throw menus right in front of where we were sitting .I could tell by the way he served us and looked at us that he didn't like me and my partner. Even on our receipt he would write Americans on it. I guess because we weren't Portuguese he didn't respect us. We would leave good tips every time and try to talk to the waitresses and him even using Google translate to try and have a conversation. He just had the most terrible attitude I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We would come in here Friday at around 12:00 and it would be dead. Probably because everybody knows this place sucks. Last Friday when we arrived there was a carpenter cutting into the walls making a terrible loud noise. I even had to tell him hey it's lunch time. You should be doing this work in the morning. I really wanted to leave but we were there to eat and I didn't want to look for another place. I ordered picana which is a typical Portuguese steak. It came super dry and very thin. The only great dish I've ever had here was there their yucca soup. That was terrific. My partner raved about their garlic shrimp. I would not return, especially since we found a place called Sol-mar right around the corner. Better food and way better service. I think the Bartender needs to learn how to serve Americans and not just Portuguese people. I would never return to this restaurant. read more

Beware! Not impressed by any means. Service sucked. Not sure what it was , maybe because I don't speak Portuguese but there were at least 6 bartenders and the service sucked. Had to flag down someone each time I needed something...never was 'checked on'. Also check your bill prior to signing...the automatically added a 20% gratuity to the bill without out asking OR informing. Horrible and deceptive ...seems to prey on those not paying attention to their bill. ONLY good thing was the food. Good portions but not great. I have had better food and same prices in Ironbound and I will not be back to this establishment read more

Low on atmosphere, high on food! I'd say 3.5 , really. If you're looking for a romantic ambiance, this isn't the place. If you're looking for good food, filling portions, it is definitely a good place. One in our party was brought up in Newark, and one works there. They both know the city pretty well, especially the Portuguese area. They chose the restaurant. We all shared a pitcher of red sangria. It wasn't the best I've ever had, and it didn't seem particularly alcoholic to me (I'm a lightweight in the drinking department and I was barely woozy after almost 2 glasses; really unusual!) but there was plenty of fruit to go around and it was refreshing enough, plus plenty of ice water, on this very hot evening. We also shared a plate of really delicious garlic shrimp. One of us had the "green soup," kale (spinach?) and potato. She liked it. My husband and I each ordered the paella marinara and this was really good! Each plate came with half a lobster, perfectly cooked, plus plump clams, and shrimp and scallops, on a huge amount of yellow rice with peas, the standard paella base. I relished that seafood! The rice was very good, way too much to finish. Our companions had one paella valenciana and the other had a shrimp dish that was enough for her to take home half of it! Service was very attentive and again, it was hot indoors even with the AC going, so we appreciated the water refills (maybe why I didn't get plowed by the sangria, come to think about it! ). The small room we were in was separated by a door from what appeared to be the bar area. Men's room is in there; ladies room in our part of the restaurant, large and clean. One of the other couple had been there with several friends a while back and had really liked the steak. So, again, worth coming for the food, for sure! read more

Great place at first glance.. I just moved into the neighborhood and was told about this place for having the best picadinho in town.. BOY were they wrong.. I rate it as the worst I've ever had.. but it doesnt stood there.. The staff has no clue as to what they're doing. They didnt know who ordered what. My picadinho traveled the entire place before getting to me.. after it did I had to ask for utensils and to add insult to injury, she was vaping. Been to this place thousands of time Great staff very friendly. Owner is very nice and always goes around greeting people. Having an outdoor patio is great to watch soccer there. If your a soccer fan this is the place to visit. Food is great and love the Caldo Verde soup they make on the weekends. My kids love this place soooo much that they can't wait for the dessert. And the suckling pig is tremendous as well. Usually sells out fast for the holidays so get your orders in early. read more

Ate here with a group co-workers (total of 8 people) after work on a Tuesday evening. It had a casual atmosphere. The food was excellent starting from the appetizers all the way down to the dessert! The calamari and the shrimp during the appetizer was on point. The sauce on the shrimp was great dipping for the bread. For the Entree the seafood pasta was fresh and a generous serving portion for 5-6 people alone in 1 serving. We also had the picadinho, which was my favorite- excellent... not too greasy! And had a good portion of salad with steak. Then we each had a serving of different desserts that we shared- flan, chocolate mousse, tiramisu, cheesecake, and some pudding. All were delicious but my favorite were the flan and chocolate mousse. As for the drinks, we had a 2 pitchers of the red sangria and my friends had their beer from tap from their little waterfall grotto... it was so cool! We were all seated in the patio at the back of the restaurant which had a great breeze from outside on a nice summer temperature... our day happened to be rainy which was relaxing to see and hear from where we were seated. All in all the service was prompt and excellent from our waitress Rose. The owner happen to be in there during our visit and was very friendly and accomodating. And if you're in doubt just for the parking alone, there's a private parking lot in the back of the restaurant. If you're looking for a great spot for Portuguese picadinho- this is IT!!!! Best picadinho I've had, might be better than mom's (shhh...). Pork cubes, portuguese sausage, shrimp, french fries, olives, pickled veggies all topped with a fried egg lighting soaking in sauce. What is not to love?!!? Seriously?! We usually order take out for their picadinho. They tell you a tray is good for 3 people but it honestly feeds double with hefty portions. One large tray is more than enough for a family of 4- trust me! read more

Stopped in on a Saturday for lunch. Sat at the bar got the special, Suckling pig roasted in a wood burning oven. the meat was tender and the skin perfectly crispy. It came with a sauce on the side and fresh cut french fries. read more

First time here and overall had a great time. Their menu is very diverse and also had a separate special menu. The waiter was patient and took time to explain several menu items that were not describe clearly. The short ribs were cooked very good and the Bacalo was seasoned perfect. Another post talks about 1.75 tap beer (does not exist ) also the floor was filthy and time should be taken between to let to clean up previous food scraps. Stumbled into this cute place one weekday afternoon because it is across the street from Seabra's where we were doing some special shopping. It was mid afternoon and only a few guys at the bar. Dining room was empty and I asked if they were serving. Answer? Of course! Our waiter was great, showing old world pride in his service approach. The food was genuine and, for us, different. I asked for Octopus........which was not on the menu that day. No problem! I was served a really generous portion of grilled octopus which was tender and perfectly garlicy! Best I ever had.
