This has to be the most chaotic, filthiest, LA I have been to. Throughout my years of travel and going to different gym I have seen some dirty gym, some gyms without proper ventilation, and some great gyms. This gym is pretty bad. Couldn't take too many photos because folks around and didn't want to be that guy but every machine here needs to be replaced. Everything. If it's not rust, there's a hitch in the gitup as they say. They have two squat racks and a power rack, which is pretty standard but showing up at 5 am and they're already full that's so foreign to me. Ditch the smith machines and get something the people want. Their rowers are beat up. The ones that look functional don't actually turn on and the ones that do have missing foot straps or in that exclusive "training only" section. Cardio machines are either stamped with an out of order sign or have problems with their bearings. The one free motion chest machine is out of order with a old "parts ordered" sticker on it. This place is just a wreck. Took some photos of the filth but they in no way shapre or form represent just how dirty it is. Not sure if there are other gyms around but I wouldn't spend the 45/mo here. read more

I stopped by this location when visiting some family and my nephew brought me in to move some weight. A really good size gym with everything from basketball court, dance/class room, and even a swimming pool. I have been to a good amount of gyms and this one was very nice. Seems cleaned too as they had cleaning items just about everywhere. They also have a juice/smoothie bar inside which is a huge plus because who doesnt want to grab some protein right after a good session? I would definitely look into this place if you live or are in the area. I am not sure about pricing as I was a one day visitor but other than that I really enjoyed my visit. read more

Place felt a bit dirty for a gym - not like the old "put some chalk on my hands and get a lift in" dirty... but more like "I can smell the piss from the restrooms while I'm benching" dirty. Staff was pretty rude but I just didn't interact with them. Super pushy on signup day about getting me to invite friends. Even after a few times of telling them no, it took me having to ask them to stop directly before they took the hint. At the very least, they're a gym with weight so I guess 2/5. read more

Outrageous! The guy named Chris, made me sign a contract for $7200 . At the moment of signing the paperwork he said "let's sign 3 personal training sessions a week, and if you need less in the future we can downgrade you or put your account on hold at any time", which was a lie. Currently, I can't visit this gym even once a week because of my work, and I still have to pay $600 a month. This guy is a fraud! Now I have to pay it or they will send my debt to collections and screw up my credit. When I called Chris, he started to act stupid, like if he didn't know what he said before. Now they are calling me and threatening me with fees if I don't pay it on time, and they don't even care that I'm not going to the gym. read more

Mere hours after I paid for not one but two memberships, Jasmine, without introducing herself or getting a reply from me, aggressively texted me about my reasons for joining. Was it to lose fat, tone up, get fit, etc. etc. When I replied "no" three times in a row, she replied "yes." When I asked what "yes" means, she replied, "I just wanted to break your no pattern lol." So I sent her a screen shot of that exchange to hint that she should examine her lack of professionalism since it's on record. She then sent me the same screenshot back. When I replied I'd be in to cancel and would be posting a Google review, she did not reply and ran to her mommy manager who then texted me to say how wonderful and upbeat Jasmine is instead of apologizing for the bizarrely unprofessional exchange. read more

This is the worst LA Fitness I have ever been to. I moved here from Phoenix and started going to the Allentown center. I was checking in and had a question for the manager about the pool. She pointed to me and said to sit down, very rudely. I asked why, it's a quick question. I was told she is busy and I can wait. I told her, she was rude. Then she started to point at me and told me to take a seat. She was rude and a brute. So I left. Next day I went in asked for her. Once again disrespectful. I promptly told her I quit. They never tried to talk to me. Took my information and ended my membership. I joined Steel Fitness. Much nicer. Wow . 3 pools. Clean. Towels, steam room, sauna. Love this place. read more

Out of town for the day and wanted to work out. Filled out information for guest pass for the day and when I arrived at Gym I was told I could only use guest pass if I was getting a membership. I paid a $20 fee for the visit and Was very disappointed. There was no one available to ask any questions about equipment. And they were dirty wipes left on multiple machines. And also when I checked in, there were no Covid cleaning instructions given. I noticed that there was no antiseptic spray anywhere until I was leaving the gym and I saw Bottles of spray on a table. Machines are dirty or broken. The hot tub had bugs crawling along the side. I cancelled and they questioned me so many times, insisting that whatever machine was broken was being replaced and that it couldn't possibly be that dirty because they'd "just cleaned" but they do get a "lot of traffic". They are so defensive about any issue you can't get a word in. read more

Place sucks. Air quality in this place blows. Always smells like asshole and sweaty balls. They need to have air fresheners hanging around in certain spots. Oh yeah, invest in a damn ac unit. I can see why this gym only has 2 1/2 stars. I was visiting my friend in Allentown, my local LA fitness is in LA. I invited her to get a 2 week pass, as that's one of the benefits of being a member. She had been invited before and got a 7day pass a few months earlier. But because of construction etc she was only able to benefit 3 days. I paid 5 dollars since it's out of state for me. But Simon in sales refused to give her a 2 week pass. He asked her what brings her to the gym today, and I said I invited her. Because she had earlier had her 7 day pass he would not give it to her. She explained that she was entitled for 4 more days because of construction. He did not believe her. I was thinking are they gonna make me go alone, and have her sit and wait. But she had the message on her phone to prove that she was entitled to the extra 4 days, and finally he gave her a 3 day pass My friend has 1 1/2 year old twins, she just wanted to know if it was realistic for her to come to the gym on a regular basis, and get the 2 week trial. Luckily she likes the yoga and Zumba instructors and still signed up. But I personally did not like the way I was treated as a member and bringing my guest. Thavnow also is a member. read more

People should be more understanding and compassionate to those who do not feel safe or care to have limited access, yet still pay FULL price... For some reason coming into this gym no one wants to work. The front desk employee name called, told my information to other gym members for example whenever they walked in " hey this guy right here is mad that he only has a one guest membership" and " I have all his information here idk why he's acting like this " so I requested a manager for her to show up 15 minutes late and before hearing my side of the story heard the front desk employees so when I walked over the first thing she demanded was for me to sit down. I told her I wasn't going to sit down and how is she going to demand stuff walking in late and listening to the front desk employee before I even got a word in to her. She got frustrated and cursed and I called her out on that too so I started recording her and asked her if she just cursed she lied and said she didn't but she looked down when I asked her if she cursed at me knowing it's true but then she asked the front desk employee for confirmation that she didn't do that and they both agreed. Although I do not frequent the club often, it is not due to a fault on their part. I use the gym more for hte pool than anything. It is short at 25 yards and is crowded during certain hours. Outside of the pool, the rest of the club is kept clean and there are typically more than enough machines. I used to be a member of La years ago. I recently rejoined for child care because oxyfit in trexlertown was shut down. After going for a month I decided to add my other 2 children to my plan. I was paying for my one preschooler currently. The reception wanted me to pay for a day pass, which would mean paying twice. I wanted to pay for the month. The girls explained that the recruiter would have to do that. I understand, I have to have it added into the computer. They said he was busy but he was standing there chatting with a trainer. I said to the desk lady, my time to work out is running thin...just hold this $20 as an earnest payment & I will sign up after. As the trainer was chatting with the recruiter, the girl waved on the recruiter, he acknowledged and went on chatting, totally blowing her off. By the time he came over there was someone who came for an appointment and he said I'm sorry I have a client. His client came after the fact. Membership guys remind me of used car salesmen. The trainer he was chatting with came over to be helpful. The girls up front were overwhelmed and had a lot going on so I apologized for causing stress. I offered to put down a $20 for them to hold until I could talk to the recruiter. I lost 25 minutes on my paid for -- alotted child care time because of this. Not happy about the fact that we recently lost a Racquetball court, because the club decided to rent out the space to another business. I do not mind the new business -- I simply dislike that they took space away from a section, within the gym, that many people use. I have been a member of LA Fitness for the past 8 years. I also have been members of 24/7, Planet Fitness, and Gold's Gym as well as the occasional hole in the wall gym. Without a doubt LA Fitness in Allentown is the best fitness facility I have ever worked out at. Clean, excellent maintained equipment, pool, basketball, racquetball, classes of all types, and spinning. They actually keep their club modern by replacing equipment and they just completely remodeled. Do not listen to the negative reviewers, there is only one way to know for sure. Visit them and see for yourself, and sure visit a few others for comparison. You will be amazed at the facility. LA Fitness Easton is not bad either but I love the Allentown club. I personally dislike this gym, it's always over crowded & get a lot of disrespectful people here, the staff is not very knowledgable and they always seem out of touch of what is going on at the gym, you could ask them a simple question about a class or the pool and they say "I don't know look it l online" or some response of that sort. The pool is the only good thing about this place that is when it is open and working properly, hopefully they can get it together soon. So, I was in town for business and figured I'd give this place a try. I signed up for a free guest pass on their website. When I entered the club, there were two employees working the desk. The woman was helping another guest and the guy was just listening to the woman help her guest. I stood there for what seemed like forever and no one acknowledged that I was there. Finally, I was like .... "Hello???" .... I showed them my guest day pass and the guy didn't know what to do with it. The woman said you're all set and waved me along. Okay ... first of all ~ I've never been to this club before. That's obvious if I am presenting you with a guest pass, right? Some direction toward the locker rooms or a brief review of where everything is would have been helpful. They didn't even taken down my information ... which I thought about later as I was exercising. What if something happened to me ... no one here would have any of my emergency information or even know who I was, etc. Kind of scary! So, their website said that they had Zumba at 7pm. When I called ahead and asked about Zumba, they said they did not have Zumba tonight and instead they had hip hop. They should have accurate information on their website, however, I thought I'd give the hip hop class a try. When I walked into the locker rooms before class, there was a very strong "wet towel" mildew smell. Gross! The rubber mats on the floor also smelled like dirty feet. Some of the sinks were broken, the toilet seats had pee all over them (luckily I found one that didn't in the very last stall). The locker room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a few days but smelt like it hadn't been cleaned in a month! There were also young teenage girls running all over the dressing rooms in their bathing suits and drawing ink tattoos on each other. It was completely annoying! When I got to the group exercise room, I was surprised. The hard wood floors were clean and the room was VERY spacious. The class filled up quickly, however, there was plenty of room for everyone. So, I was stretching because I got there about 15 minutes early. The instructor walked in and asked me .. "They told you there was a change today, right?" ... I wasn't sure what to say and I said, "Oh, that it's hip hop and not Zumba?" and she shook her head, signed and said "Forget it ... I'll tell you when everyone gets here". It was so weird. Then a second instructor walked in and the first instructor started arguing with her about who was supposed to be there teaching the class. It was so unprofessional! Take it outside ... don't do it in front of guests / members. The initial instructor stormed out of the room and I didn't see her again. The second instructor unwrapped a burger and started chowing down on it while leaning on the stereo equipment. ???? Huh ???? Come on - chow on that in your car and don't do it in the exercise room. That was a real put-off. The class started and it wasn't what I expected from a hip hop class : push ups, planks, sit ups, lots of ab floor work and then the dancing began. It was good because it kicked my butt, but kind of off for a hip hop class. The class was SOOO repetitive. The instructor would teach a small portion of a dance and then add on to it with every song. So, we ended up doing the exact same moves throughout the whole class. It really made it hard to keep my interest for a whole hour. Do you really want to do the same moves to 10 different songs? NO! UGH. It was okay though because I had a great workout that was much needed. OK - so then the kicker ... Zumba started right after the hip hop class. Now, zumba is my favorite work out and I search for classes when I am traveling for work. Don't you think that the front desk could have told me that Zumba was at 8 instead of saying just come for hip hop???!! I was pissed. After hip hop, I was too exhausted to stay for Zumba and headed to the YUCKY locker room again to quickly change and get out of there. I passed the front desk with the same employees working. To no surprise, they did not say good bye or acknowledge that anyone was leaving. BTW - The rest of the gym was packed packed packed!! I don't know how anyone was getting on any equipment. The place also looked like a dating service with girls all dolled up, waiting around for equipment and flirting with the guys who were using the equipment. I will NEVER EVER be back to an LA fitness again. I am so glad that I never joined this type of gym in NY. read more

Be careful signing up. My daughter begged for a summer membership at LA Fitness. She is away at school after Sept. After being told 2 months was OK and paying $79.98 the club continued to draw monthly charges on our card. The argument? Even though the salesperson told you there would be no more charges, the contract said you would have to come in, get a form, and sign the withdrawal. I ask why they didn't give us this form at the time of joining since everyone knew she would be leaving to go back to school.. Oh, the salespeople cannot do that. They cannot tell you about it either. So even though they tell you 2 months is fine they are not allowed to tell you about the withdrawal procedure. You must sit there and read every fine print on their contract and DON'T LISTEN TO A WORD THE SALESPERSON SAYS. We paid $160 for 6 weeks of membership rights. (2 weeks is on us for vacation) so really it's $160 for 2 months. I gave 2 stars because she really liked it when she went and it's too bad because we can never go to any LA Fitness again. I always wonder how a business will let one person ruin their reputation. If the salesman had only told her and my husband she would have to withdraw.... I consider them thieves and dishonest and I won't do business with them again. I asked the operations manager if she could use the $80 overpayment for next summer and was told no. I'm an LA fitness member in another state, but luckily, our membership allows me to roam. My in-laws live in Emmaus, so I've been to this LA a few times. The classes are pretty good, at least the ones I've been to (yoga and Zumba). However, this place is NOT clean. I was grossed out many times. The pool is not well maintained, the showers are tainted by grime and hair, and the studio floors are dirty (kinda gross when you're doing yoga). They really need to up their game when it comes to cleanliness. read more

You know all the stories you heard about Pressure sales for gym memberships and difficulty in dropping the membership.... yeah like all those stories probably came from LA fitness. You talk to them about joining, it is like you are buying a used car.. pressure to sign up NOW!, talking to the manager to get a better price, saying if you pay $5 per month you will get a sweat towel.... the endless phone calls if you leave without joining.... Once you are beyond that, the peak hours are PACKED, and they last late at night, my wife (who was a teacher in the inner-city and knows karate) stopped going there after dinner time as it was not a good place to be then. Lots of obnoxious people on free weights, Young people who seem to be there to impress their friends and hook up. We joined about 3 or 4 years ago (2010) and it was decent then, but it has gone down hill now in 2013, the carpet in the Mens locker room is just gross, they have no towels, they have remove the bathing suit dryer, a few times the pool, hot tub or basketball courts will be shut down for weeks. If the people working there are not selling you a membership, they do not give a sh1t about you. Honestly they do not even check you in, most of the time you can just walk past the front desk and wave. Do not bother asking them question, they will not know the answer. The good part, if you like to swim and do basketball and racquet ball, and can be there in off hours (though it is close to full some times at lunch), and you can get a deal for less then $25 a month... sure this would work for you....but be aware, if you are paying $40 there are better deals in the valley. Also, the final insult: when I called there to cancel, the process that I was told to do was 1) go to the gym 2) receive a form they had to print out for me (after a grilling of why i was leaving) 3) Mail (yes, USPS only, no email, no web site, no fax) the form that I signed to California. 4) hope that the form is processed in California before the 25th of the month, or I will be charged for the next month, then my membership would be canceled on the 25th OF THE NEXT MONTH. So I mailed the form in on June 10th and my membership expired on July 25th. This was what a friend of mine had to do also. When my wife canceled, she was there already. So she went to the front desk, they told her to talk to the manager, she gave the manager an earful of the cr@p she put up with and the manager canceled her membership on his computer immediately. Like alot of what others wrote, this gym has just about everything you want, BUT there is barely any room in the place to do free body working out. Zero privacy. Employees are not good at all. and the most annoying is it is WAY WAY TO CROWDED. I joined in 2010 and it was way better then. Better employees and definitely not as many people. They also really screw over the college students when they go on break. The only good thing about this gym like i said is all the amenities. I will give it 2 stars for that reason and because well its at least a gym. I feel like there are a lot of good LA Fitnesses though, just not this one due to poor design, poor employees, and no regulation on the amount of membership acceptance. read more
