This facility on Hilliard-Rome Rd is of the opinion that women are allowed in the men's locker room. I have personally experienced this 3 different times. Once there was a cleaning woman in the men's locker room that was doing more observation than cleaning. A second time there was a woman in the men's sauna. Today there was a woman sitting in the men's locker room of which management is of the opinion that this is acceptable and there is nothing they can do to keep people of the opposite sex from using a locker room that does not agree with their sex at birth. Management are a group of nice people but, they sure have this one wrong. I will be looking for a new facility that is more in line with my beliefs. I really like the facility and convenience to my home. But my Christian beliefs are not in line with this facility. read more

I just started at LA Fitness Hilliard In January. My trainer was Sara and she trained me to use all of the equipment. After years of knee and shoulder pain and physical therapy with no results, I finally am mostly pain free. While white water rafting on July 6th. I slipped on some rocks and twisted my knee. While laying on the ground, I figured I would not be able to walk. Surprisingly I had little pain and some swelling that lasted 10 days. If not for LA Fitness, I probably would be in a cast. This gym is awesome! One of the nicest LA fitnesses I've been in. Seems like it used to be a Sports Authorty or something similar because of the layout, but it makes for an awesome gym. 2 stories, track around the 2nd story. Machines on machines on machines. So much more of a variety of weight machines than any other LA Fitness I've ever been in (and I travel a lot for work so I've been in my fair share). Multiple workout class studios. Overall just a great and very impressive LA Fitness. I wish my LA back home was like this one! read more

I enjoy the movie theatre room when they actually play movies. A lot of time staff just doesn't put them in. This location has a decent layout compared to the others and not as busy as others around. It needs a deep clean though. Sauna needs cleaned. Dust is everywhere and sweat build up on machines make you want to take a shot so you don't catch a disease. Staff is a lot friendlier than other locations and actually greets you as you enter. Always pretty clean and tidy. Gets a little hectic around 430-630, but that's to be expected at any gym. Always had pleasant interactions with employees and were super helpful signing up. The initiation fee is a little much but it averages out in the long run cost wise compared to other gyms. The movie cardio room is cool concept, but usually off. Whether the projector is off center and tilted or the movie is paused, few times have I been in with it working perfectly. Overall great value and equipment. read more

I like the gym itself, but I received a call from corporate telling me my membership is up at the end of the month and I need to renew with the girl on the phone because she gets commission. I told her I wanted to see when my membership was up because it seemed like I had more time. I have until the end of June. 2 1/2 months! I am staying with the gym but I really hope she calls back. LA Fitness is a good gym. Hilliard has tons of gyms to choose from, but I have chosen to go here for the past 3 years because it is easy to get to, tons of equipment and competitive pricing. If you're looking for a gym in Hilliard that has personal training don't go here, go to Metro Fitness just down the road - they have good trainers. The trainers at LA have historically not lasted very long. My speculation is that the prices are way too high, the trainers aren't creditable (they look weak), and they aren't personable. If their not training someone they sit behind their desk and chill.. I would also like to add that they are pushy.. Typically when equipment breaks it can take months to get fixed, which can cause crowding around the remaining available equipment. The people that go to this gym are pretty nice and the front desk staff is usually welcoming. Despite many negatives, I have gone to other gyms and continue to come back to this gym. read more

I've belonged to several gyms and this one was probably my least favorite. I will say that it is a very clean facility with a lot of equipment. They do have a nice track and a seperate room with cardio equipment and a different movie showing every day. With that being said, their customer service skills need to be improved upon. Their billing system is complicated and it is extremely hard to get out of a contract if you are unhappy with the gym. They boast about their cardio machines having individual TV's. This is true but I would estimate about 30% percent do not work properly. They told me they only fix them when they have many broken ones because it is costly to have the repairs done. I'm also disappointed how the company treat their staff, knowing some of the staff at the gym I would not want to work in that kind of toxic work environment. love this gym! the price is pretty reasonable for a large gym with great amenities- every machine you can think of, cycle room, cardio cinema, pool, sauna, racket ball, and basketball courts. definitely love the all ladies workout area. they also offer classes and you are welcome to use the studio when there isn't a class being held. workers and managers are very friendly. all i would say is that they need to update it, machines are pretty old and there's an older feel to it. also the way you wipe down the equipment is weird. read more

I have always heard La Fitness was much better than Planet Fitness because of everything they offer in their gyms. They are really cool no argument about that. A buddy of mine got a membership for LA once and told me they offered 14 days free trial for guests. So I signed up to finally check it out. I worked out with my friend using the free trial, and on the 14th day I wasn't allowed in. The receptionist called the manager, told him my name and that my trial was about to expire. He then came down and instantly confronted; he made me feel so bad. First thing he said to me was "Your trial expired yesterday, pal". I explained that it would actually expire that day, which was the 14th day. He denied it, so I showed him the email. He looked at it and saw the expiration date. He then puffed out his chest and said "what are you just trying to work out for free or what?". I was very uncomfortable, I told him I was just using what they offered and was going to work out with my buddy (who was standing by my side) there one last time and he replied with "if you want to work out why don't you pay?" I just told him I'm staying at Planet Fitness. He immediately turned his back on me and walked away. I felt extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed. I was trying to take advantage of them, I was using a promotion THEY OFFERED. This manager ruined La Fitness for me. Definitely NOT going back to be treated this way again. read more

Apparently sitting and waiting for someone counts as working out and you have to pay $15 for it. I've been coming here since we moved to this area. I was an LA fitness member at the Goodale gym previously. I like LA because they are all over Ohio so I always have a place to work out if I'm traveling. I specifically like this location because it's huge and even when it's crowded there are always machines or weights available. Unlike the Grandview location that was so overcrowded consistently. There's also a girls only room which I really like because it's typically only me and a couple of other girls in there at a time. They have a lot of classes, pool, sauna, track, basketball court. I went to Planet Fitness for over 5 years. Many of my friends came to LA and I wanted to join as well. However there were never real deals or promotions. I didn't want to spend more $$$. During summer of 2020 I decided to get a few guest passes and try it out again. I was offered a good military promotion that I decided to take advantage of. I typically come at 0500 throughout the week for a couple hours. I didn't really have any issues until I started coming during the day. It's difficult to see that early when it's dark, but the facility is dirty. I see someone periodically wiping down machines, but rarely sweeping or cleaning the base of the machines (speaking on mainly treadmills). It's not something I would say needs done every day, but every other week would make a tremendous improvement. I believe LA to be a superior business to Planet Fitness, but I never once had to worry about the cleanliness of their facilities. My wife and 2 friends have gotten guest passes to try it out as well. They have all mentioned the cleanliness as a reason for not joining. There are several treadmills that drag/catch when they get up to jogging or running speeds. They may need lubricant. Very disruptive and dangerous. I would love to see these issues resolved. This Saturday I had a deeply uncomfortable experience at this gym. I went in to inquire about a membership because my gym has begun to get really crowded and I could use something closer to home. After being given a tour, I asked the representative that I'd like to try their seven day free trial, however that did not go over well. Soon a manager came over to the desk and began to tell me about pricing and how I need to sign up immediately to "lock in the rates". I politely said I'd rather just try it out first (I was worried about the atmosphere, like anyone should be). That didn't bode well with him and they started to become extremely confrontational and somewhat hostile. After pressing them, I eventually left with a trial card. In an act of mercy, I'm not going to name the staff. But I will certainly not use the trial. The building and equipment itself would have been great for my needs, but I'm not comfortable returning after that exchange. read more

I've probably never been talked to or insulted by a company I pay every month ever. I've been coming to this location for years. My husband closed my membership and I was told to go online and sign back up. I did as I was told..under the impression I was just reopening my membership. Today I seen 3 months of payments taken out. I called the Hilliard location to inquire. I was put on the phone with the manager and he explained that I signed up online. I said to him I'll call the corporate office to have them fix it. He immediately got angry and combative. He asked why would I call if he could fix it and I should of read the contract before I signed. He totally jumped to conclusion and insulted me. I tried to explain to him the only reason I said that is because he told me I signed up online. I figured I'll go back to where I signed up and not bother him with something he didn't do. But instead he tool it as me being mad or angry and insulted me. I wasn't yelling or angry...but after this call I'm quite upset. He was beyond unprofessional and now I'm saddened I'm no longer comfortable going to my neighborhood gym because it employs people that are rude to their customers. The correct response would of been after I explained why I was going to call corporate..should of been how can I help you? Not I should of read the contract with a nasty hateful tone. Nathan and I have been working out at LA fitness for a few months now and we like it! It has everything you need to get in a good workout, a pool, sauna, a women's workout room for added privacy, and multiple classes to choose from. If I could make any recommendations to LA fitness....I would definitely add more mirrors! I would also add those sanitizing wipes instead of regular paper towels and the foam soap. I also recommend add those water bottle spouts to the drinking fountains so people can easily fill up their water bottles. Other than the facility is great! read more

This was the LA Fitness location where I had signed up my membership years ago. At the time this place was still relatively new, clean, and organized. I had to come here because my regular location is being renovated. I hate to say it, but i was very disappointed in its conditions. The lower floor looked very rundown, the dumbbells were scattered all over the place, floor was dirty, lighting was dim, and it looked like they tried to cram as many machines together as possible. The second floor was much better though. Second floor had mostly cable machines and cardio equipment. Things looked much cleaner, brighter lighting, but none of the TVs on the treadmills worked. For lifting, I don't think I want to come here again. It's like what they say, "you don't know what you had until you've lost it." Can't wait for the renovations to be over with read more

Ok I don't know what everyone's problem is with this gym. It's not that bad. No it's not the Ritz Carlton but no gym is. So I went here today because the LA fitness in Grandview is closed for renovations. I almost didn't because of the bad reviews but seriously, this isn't bad. Tons of weights and cardio equipment, and yeah the TVs don't work but did you really go to the gym to watch TV?? Went here to workout because I was in town for work. Outside gives it a much roomier appearance than once you get inside. The first floor is cluttered with weights and machines. There is not nearly enough equipment to get in a decent workout. The second floor is very nice, with all the treadmills and machines. However, the second floor alone isn't enough to save this place. Have to say this gym used to be nice, however I can't say the same anymore. It has plenty of equipment to use, if it's not broken or pads worn off the machines. Most equipment needs cable adjustments/pads replaced. Equipment is usually all over the place and weight plates are not plentiful you have to walk across gym sometimes to get a plate. Locker rooms are NEVER clean. They do enough to get by but that's about it. Actual cleanliness is questionable at best. Sauna in the men's room smells horrible. Good luck letting a staff member know about your issues with the place as they don't seem to care. Go to Goodale LA it's better and clean. read more

I am appalled that my son, active military home on leave, had to pay $30 to work out for 5 days. He didn't qualify for a pass because he's a former member - sheesh. Then - the manager and trainers gathered around while the manager, Jay proclaimed - "hey that's a deal - we usually charge $15.00 per day." Wow.The policy stinks and needs to be adjusted. Customer service is generally fair but staff seem poorly trained and at a loss as to how to deal with complaints. We've often directed to a manager, who says,"we'll take care of it," and nothing happens. At least the pool is finally cleaner and the heater seems to be working - at least for now. Very disappointed that they are not keeping up with repairs. I mentioned the pool looked bad very cloudy strong chlorine, Found out they have been allowing people to swim and hold classes with no filtration system running for weeks. The Part has supposedly been on order. One of the ladies has a bad rash now and I was told several people reporting the pool to the Board of health. I'm baffled by any poor reviews this gym has gotten. I travel a lot and have been to many LA Fitness locations (I don't live in Hilliard but I visit frequently for work). This is by far the nicest one. The pool is small (20 yards) but totally serviceable and peacefully lit. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facility is spacious and clean (and I'm fussy about that), including the dressing rooms. There's even a small woman-only workout space. The real treat is the upstairs, which has a big running track, tons of machines in good working order, and lots of natural light. The only downside is there doesn't seem to be a lot of free-weights or even space for that sort of thing, but there are some. If you're a big oily macho gym-rat bo-hunk, this may not be the place for you. But anyone else would love it. read more

This place is horrible.. Just a bad overall experience. First off, there facility is really not that nice and IS quite dirty. No one takes the time to clean up because they have too many people packed into a tiny space. First impressions last, but that's not even my real beef. I was scammed from Day 1.. literally. I signed up for what I thought was a month to month contract for one of their promos. I questioned the sales guy aggressively and asked him a lot of questions about the promo. He flat out lied to me it turns out. I asked him if it was a 2 year commitment, he obviously said no. I asked him when I can cancel, he stated anytime and never mentioned the $99 cancellation fee. He made it seem like I can walk away anytime. On top of that, they have personal trainers that really pressure you into buying bigger more expensive packages. I now realize their whole staff were really just sales people that work out sometimes.. Luckily, after taking some verbal abuse and the guy basically trying to shame me, I stood my ground and didn't buy any of that extra stuff. The way they went about it seemed really immoral though. This was my first red flag, and it was DAY 1! Anyway, now, 4 months later and literally 1 visit to that horrid institution. I went through their huge hassle for cancellation. Print out the form... mail it in... hope that someone does actually get it... wait for a few weeks.. get a random email that tells you it's cancelled, but you still have a member ship for 2 more years... So I call the local gym, I explained I should be able to walk away because I was flat out lied to. The manger wasn't having any of it. At one point I stated to her that I probably wasn't the first person that complained about this. She then flat out lied to me by saying I was the first she has ever spoken to with this issue. Liar! I googled "LA fitness complaints" and saw 1000's of reviews. I'm sure one of those people was from went to this gym. It just makes too much sense to me that this was a obvious scam that's probably is affecting many unsuspecting people. Watch your bank accounts folks... I told this manager that one of her employees lied to me and I told her detailed specifics. Lied to me while I was signing a contract with them. That has to be a fireable offense. Her only response was to tell me that this employee is now at another location, could've been another lie IDK, I don't go there anymore. Either way, that conversation got me no where because she was obviously trained to ONLY deal with disgruntled customers, that's probably her whole job. That line of work must really suck.. Any way, yelp is a good solution to this issue because suing isn't an option. Just hit em where it hurts I guess. This is literally for any new customer going to LA. DON.T, just go to the cheaper route with those basic gyms. LA fitness only offers gimmicks as extras and charges you way more for it. Not worth it. read more

I am appalled at the way sauna is used at this facility. It is not used as a sauna, but a sweat room where everyone is coming fully dressed wearing dirty and sweaty clothes and shoes. It looks like management at that facility does try to change the trend and is closing their eyes on such unsanitary conditions. It is highly unhealthy both for those clueless visiting sauna fully dressed and those who try to attend it according to its purpose. It would make sense to either call it "Sweat/dirt room" or re-think how to enforce sauna traditions and make it a healthy, clean, and relaxing place. read more

After going to the LA Fitness Goodale location for several months, working out at the Hilliard location was a step up. The gym facilities are cleaner, there's twice as much equipment and space, it isn't as crowded, and there's even an entire section just for women to work out in attached to the ladies locker room. I still workout at this location. Since early 2013, I've been participating in the aerobic classes. It's the first time I've done aerobics since the late 1990's at Bally Total FItness. The aerobics studio at this LA Fitness facility is pretty good although I wish it could have carpeting like the old studio at Bally's did. But the atmosphere at this studio is upbeat, which places you in a jovial mood, and with the vociferous music, motivates you to do aerobics. The attire I wear for the classes are a T-shirt, shorts, and white low top Reebok Freestyle shoes. The white shoelaces of an old pair of the Freestyle I wore at aerobics classes at Bally's untied a lot. But at the classes at LA Fitness, the shoestrings of my current pair of Reeboks don't come undone although they come in contact with the mat during the ab exercises in the Step Plus Abs classes. I used to participate in the Zumba classes. Despite burning many calories and receiving quite a workout, I struggled in performing a majority of the moves. Even though Zumba is popular and hip among people who love to dance and have a festive time, it wasn't for me. But one of the instructors was affable and let me suggest music to be played for her classes. It was funny that her shoelace came undone a couple of times. I had a notion that instructors don't have their shoes untie. They are human. Another instructor, who teaches Step Plus Abs, is also affable and her shoestrings came undone as well. Her name is Lindsey. The first time I joined her class, she made me feel welcome and we've had conversations almost every time we see each other at the studio. Lindsey and I are like friends and discuss about subjects friends chat about. Unlike Zumba, I can do Step since I used to partake in Step classes at Bally's. I struggle with the ab portion of the class. I admit I don't give it my best effort due to trepidation of pulling my groan. But going to this LA Fitness club has been good for me since I began doing aerobics again. read more

this is your gym if: you like dirty equipment, large dust bunnies, holes in drywall/ peeling chipped paint, rusted out spin bikes and i mean ALL of them, TRX bands too high to use properly, disorganized weight rooms, and general filth. admittedly the staff is sympathetic to the cause but completely ineffective. i've worked out at a lot of cbus gyms over the years and this gym, by far, is in a league of its own. Go to the grandview or tuttle gyms instead. Its totally different management who actually seem to take pride in their gyms. read more
