I fell down on the treadmill in November. I was pretty seriously hurt and in shock. I got pretty deep road rash in my right leg and my left leg got twisted in between 2 treadmills. I'm at high risk for a hip fracture. I managed to walk to the front desk and told the manager. Andrew, I was hurt. He threw some bandaids over the counter. I have a permanent scar on my leg now. I went to change my membership today and he had me sign a waiver saying I would be careful not to get hurt as part of the routine membership requirements for everyone. I mentioned that I did get hurt before and he didn't address my injury at all. Believe it or not, this guy, Andrew, the manager I guess, started chastising me and saying it was my fault because I didn't inform him enough that I was injured. I told him he didn't even walk out from behind the desk to address my injuries. He just threw a bandaid over the counter. He got really rude with me like it was my fault because I should have done more to make sure he knew I was injured. What an AH! I called their corporate office and the customer service lady started giving me medical advice because she said she was a nurse at one time. Then she started laughing about it. What jerks! read more

Absolutely waste of money. I've been coming here on and off for years and they literally never fix anything. All the stair master machines haven't been working for a year plus. Yet you get charged $37/month + that yearly fee, you'd expect for them to keep up with the gym maintenance. Most of the machines are old and rusty, some don't even work correctly. And again most of the machines at the gym DONT WORK. On top of that , they never answer the phone . Service is bad. Quality is bad. Even planet fitness has better maintenance and that's only $10. Do not sign up for this or any LA Fitness. All I wanted at 9am this morning when I first called them was to make sure that my 6-month personal training contract (that is over now) does not continue to charge me. Yet, I got told I'd be called back. They never called me back so I called them. I got told I have to print a form and fill it out and MAIL it to them. Yes, like the post office kind of mailing. Might as well ask to send a courier pigeon. And then trying to contact corporate is an absolutely nightmare. They have all these emails that you can email but then you get automatic responses that say they have an "unprecedented amount of emails and phone calls." Hmm... wonder why when you just won't let someone end a contract that is over. Now I do not want my membership at LA Fitness and will never go back to them again. This is the worst customer service I've ever received from any business. The only reason they are probably still in business is bc they won't allow anyone to cancel anything. And when do people want to cancel things? Probably when big life events happen, like losing a job (which I did, I lost my job, and now I have to deal with this), or moving (we all know moving is stressful enough), or just when huge things happen that we don't expect, but no... it's really important for LA Fitness to force you to go down there in person. They told me the manager will be there 9am-6pm on weekdays... let's hope he's actually there bc I've heard even more horror stories from other people. Just don't sign up for them. It's a pretty crappy gym, not to our standard. Very smelly, always out of paper towels and who the heck keeps stealing weights?!? Minimal customer service; personal trainers who should assist are very rude. They push you to pay for one on one sessions when they look like they are the ones needing a trainer (yea I'm talking to you long dreads). They need a new manager ASAP! I've heard great things about LA Fitness and I wanted to find a permanent gym. About 2-3 weeks ago my boyfriend and I visited this gym with a guest pass. Upon entering, we were not greeted by the young lady working the desk. We told her we had the guest passes and for about 3 min she did not speak a word. My boyfriend asked if her if we were waiting on someone to help us and she said yes. The gym salesman came up and immediately started trying to sell us a membership. I know that is his job, but we wanted to check out the facility first before making a decision. During our workout I felt that we were just being watched by the salesman who helped us. I personally felt, like this was an unwelcoming environment. I did not receive the customer service I expected from LA Fitness, at least from this location. Based on my experience that day I did not sign with LA Fitness. Instead I decided to sign with Fitness Connection and I'm enjoying the positive environment there much more! read more

I have recently moved closer to this location from the Yale location in Houston. Just for clarification, I usually come workout during the night as it is packed since those are the busy hours. This is my opinion of what goes on in the evening/night. I have been to this gym for about 3 months so I wanted to give a thorough and honest review with constructive criticism. Compared to the previous location, the staff, as a whole, are not as friendly except for a few charismatic individuals. In terms of cleanliness, it is average. They have more janitorial staff going around and cleaning more often during the night. Plus, at the front desk they do have spray bottles for you if you want to disinfect your equipment as you are using the facilities. Although I don't know if the cleaner that they use causes some of the handles on the equipment to be sticky so I recommend to use workout gloves to avoid that issue. They do not have a smoothie stand as other locations do. I am not aware of a reason nor do I know why. Personally, I have never purchased anything from them anyways. On the contrary, they do have a few vending machines by the lockers that is tap to pay. These are only drink vending machines. Although I still do advise to bring cash anyways if for some reason the feature is not working. Luckily, there are a few food places that are down the street or in the same shopping strip. Most of them are either seafood, halal or Mediterranean food. They have plenty of cardio machines on the 2nd floor, and they have a whole section of the building dedicated to racquetball I believe. Which I personally do not play, so I would ask if they lend any equipment to play. The machines do have bar codes if they are defective so I recommend to take a picture of it and let a staff member know which machine is defective so they can address it and put a sign. I am pleasantly surprised that most people wear a mask to the gym which really makes me feel safe. The new thing that I have been seeing is that at the front door, they do have a foot door opener that you can use if you don't feel comfortable touching the door with your hands. read more

This place is a joke. Cardio equipment doesn't work half the time. I tried 7 different treadmills before I found one that had a working heart rate monitor. Bathrooms are dirty. It just gives off a general dirty vibe. There is a "cafe" in the corner that is just empty... guess they never actually open or run it. There is a women's workout area, a kids club and racquetball courts. Convenient location for me. So for just a basic workout it's fine. If anything better opened in the area I'd be gone in a heartbeat. $30 a month is too much. read more

This review is based on my experience, which consists of attending Zumba classes and hitting the treadmills (and occasionally the elliptical machines). The Zumba teachers: * Tina - super fun choreography and songs - I like her classes, and she makes you sweat a lot. * Edie - her choreography is a little bit more complex and takes a bit longer to catch on to. moderate intensity. not quite as sweaty as Arianne or Tina's classes, but still sweaty! * Arianne - her Saturday morning class was PACKED the one time I went. She's fun and gets you to work up a good sweat but not quite as much as Tina IMO. * Zhu - I don't know if she's regularly a Zumba teacher or was just subbing, but I wanted to leave after a couple of minutes. It. Was. So. Boring. Very mindnumbing. The same steps would be repeated ad nauseam, not following the Zumba style at all (where the different sections of each song correspond to particular moves/choreography). The treadmills are pretty standard - not extra fancy but similar to the ones I've seen at most local gyms. Same with the ellipticals. The paper towel machines seem to always have paper towels in them, which is more than can be said for some other local gyms. The restrooms are not sparkling clean, but they're OK and definitely useable. The front desk staff are friendly enough. No complaints! read more

They seem to do a better job of cleaning the place, so I am increasing my earlier rating from 2.6 stars to 3.2 stars. Problems: Busy on weekends and people just drop their trash everywhere! They need two cleaning people on weekends, and not just one. Another problem: The machines are still old and worn. Sometimes machines are 'down' for two weeks before any staff member notices! This LA fitness is probably one of the worst in Houston. Three weeks ago there was a loose screw in the women's sauna that ripped my $120 Lulu Lemon leggings and I got in contact with management and have been persistently trying to contact them and I have yet to receive a resolution from them. The loose screw is still in the sauna despite the manager saying they would get that fixed. They're very lucky that it only ripped through my leggings and didn't severely injure me otherwise they'd have a nice lawsuit sitting on their lap. I'm extremely displeased with their customer service and sometimes there isn't a single employee in sight. In addition they leave machines broken for weeks and months on end. We witnessed a worker's girlfriend/client hiding a 10lb dumbbell under his desk where other customers who are paying for membership, are not able to use them. There used to be multiple pairs of 10's and 15's.. now they're all missing. We now know where they all went... We had to go to a different LA Fitness location. read more

So I'll be very blunt and honest... But I learned from my mistake.... The trainers will suck you into a contract before you can blink. The trainer that signed me up did just that and I was under the assumption that o could cancel whenever... Wrong. So once I found out, I had decided to just stick out the $160 a month since I was "stuck" in the contract. I asked the same trainer that signed me up to change my payment date and he said he would take care of it. A few days passed and my bank account gets hit with the charge on the WRONG date. Someone had not done their job of changing my payment date. I was beyond furious. I spoke to their California upper headquarters and had it resolved but I refuse to keep doing business with people who could care less about their clients and more about the money. This was the first gym I signed up for when I moved back to Houston. They gave a student discount and no start up fees. I was paying about 25 bucks a month. This location was cool since it was in at the end of a relatively quiet strip center. They had a huge parking lot and lots of new equipment. The basketball courts were always full but never too packed. Usually 2 games down was the wait here. The staff is nice and always willing to help. Until I moved away this was only a couple minutes from my parent's house. With the new location in the med center I wish I still had my membership to LA Fitness. read more

Too many broken machines that sit idle for months. There is no urgency by the management to get the broken cross-country machines and treadmills repaired. During peak times the balcony is crowded and people are standing around waiting for a machine that works. I found the West Bellfort location better designed and with many more machines. read more

I used to go to this LA fitness about 3-4 years ago before i moved away for college. Recently, i had a chance to come back because a family member had extra passes for me to use. Before, the gym was manageable. Small, had it's necessary free weights, tight, and a nice basketball court. (1 full court) and such amenities that a typical 30$/month gym had. Swimming pool, showers, etc. you get the gist of it. Since i had been gone for college for so a while, i couldn't have known there were any changes made to the facility. They took out majority of the machines and added their own "personal trainer area" basically took away 20 machines? The current machines are well kept, clean, and fairly brand new from what i could tell. As i was working out with my aunt, we decided to go into the personal training area. KEEP IN MIND that i didn't know it was a personal training area. There was no staff or other members that were being trained in that area and i DID NOT notice that it was a personal trainer area only. My aunt and i decided to do lunges in that area WITHOUT THE USE OF ANY PRODUCTS/WEIGHTS just simple lunges using only body weight. Out of no where a trainer that works at the location comes up and says you can't workout here then proceed to tell me "bye bye thank you" quickly and with a very rude tone and I'm talking awfully rude. While i was flabbergasted on the tone he showed me, i gave no resistance to his rude request and just walked off( the guy had long dreadlocks with dark toned skin) I was shocked on how a trainer would talk to someone like that. A person who is suppose to motivate another to become better, proceeds to talk to a customer like that. A clueless customer that didn't use any of their weights or had knowledge that an area is closed off to certain workers. The personal trainer area consumed more than 35% of the area and to my knowledge from being a member a while ago, that area was used for members that paid and i was honestly confused. I can't judge the facility solely off of 1 workers attitude, so i gave myself a few days to rethink my judgment and write this review. The gym is nice, but clearly they decide to hire anyone. The place is gonna stink because it's a gym... you can't expect it to smell like roses. In the end, I'd go to the gym because i live very close but i probably wouldn't ask for any "motivator" to help me out. Especially that guy. I might be biased because I teach aerobics - my review is solely on the group fitness instructors. I have worked with them and they seem reliable and the member attendance is great!! I subbed the 9:45am class here today and taught a Body Works plus abs class. I have been teaching for 10 years or so and absolutely enjoy what I do. The ladies who attended were so great. I love to educate what people are doing and encourage to exercise with a passion. When I arrived, I was greeted right away. Courtney, the OM, was kind as usual. The gym is clean. The lady's room is clean. As a matter of fact, the female janitor was outside the door cleaning the sidewalk right in front of the entrance. No wonder it looks great! There is just a good feeling when you walk into a gym with a lot of members and see that things are clean and working. They are. It is. Each club location has childcare (not daycare). Look at the website or use the app to see the different times. Not sure on the costs, but I know it's relatively low and the rooms are safe and kid-friendly. Although I haven't run into this personally, I always use the sanitizer and paper towels to clean my equipment. I hope everybody who reads this and goes to a gym, does the same thing. This is by far the most neglected of all the gyms in this fitness chain. Presentation and upkeep seem to be at the bottom of their customer care list. The same equipment seems seems to be broken months at a time. Upper management definitely needs to address this issue. I'm sure memberships would increase if a new responsible manager was hired to address these issues. read more

Truly disappointed in customer service for this gym. When I signed up, I was told to pay initial fee, first, last month and my bank will be deduct around $60 each month and that is it. My bank account was charged an extra $35 this week, I called and asked about this. They told me that this is annual fee and they will charge every year. I said I wasn't informed about this and my account was 4 months old. He told me to call back tomorrow and talk to a manager. I called back and speak to the manager, she said "well, this is an annual fee after 3 months you will be charged $35, it said that in your contract" I was furious - First off, it is your responsibility to inform me all the fee I had to pay when I sign up. If I was told there will be another fee applied after 3 months and it is non refundable, I would not sign up here. - When I sign the contract the sale rep did not even point out the part that where it said annual fee etc. Lucky me because its only $35, if it was $135, they can just be like "oh its in the contract even tho we dont tell you and its non refundable" The manager transfer me to the guy who signed me up, he said there is nothing he could do about this. Please reconsider all the fee you had to pay before you sign up, there are gyms that offer the same price with way better customer, gym equipments and open 24 hours! Feel like a scam.
