Creepy experience here. I came here to swim since the McCormick Ranch pool seems to be closed indefinitely, the LAF on Scottsdale Rd in south Scottsdale seems to have closed permanently, and the pool at the Moon Valley location is nasty. Upon entering the pool, I noticed a disheveled older gentleman (not in pool attire) sitting in a deck chair staring at the other two older women in the pool. He sat there for awhile as I began my lap swim. After a bit, the gentleman began to enter the pool, FULLY CLOTHED in overalls and a t-shirt. He remained in the pool for awhile, went underwater a few times, then returned to his chair. I got out, though I felt a bit guilty leaving the two older women in the pool with a creepy dude staring at them. An odd experience here, won't be in a hurry to return. read more

With a dedicated room for it *Workout space/equipment w/ kettle/medicine balls, Bosu Balance Pods, Battle Ropes, Plyosoft Boxes to jump on, etc. is moved up to the front of the space * New ellipticals * Basketball court's been replaced w/ heavy duty weight lifting equipment (not sure how happy bb players will be - this is kind of sad, tbh!) * Also looks like it got a deep clean, which I'm grateful for Here's what's the same: * lap pool * dedicated cycling room * racquetball courts * dedicated fitness class room (yoga, etc) * B Bar - my favorite for grabbing post-workout smoothies/full blown healthy meals I really hope they do some "Intro to New Gym Equipment" workshops b/c some of the stuff is super intimidating & I have NO idea how to use it. Fit. When I want to use machines and weight to get fit I come to L.A. Fitness. I also come because my wife has been a member for decades.We have no Personal Trainers. I am totally buff, or whatever today's word is. My six pack is now a quart, my weights are for aerobic vigor, not heavy weight/strength. I want to return to the Estrella Mountain Summit one more time. We cycle for bad knees. I do machines to strengthen my aching, weakening back muscles. It works. I.like the little alcohol wipes, drinking fountains and superbly clean men's locker room. There are also scales. I am down 20 pounds since 2023. read more

An absolute digrace! I live in central/uptown Phoenix and have been an LA Fitness member since the 2077 E. Camelback Road location was built and opened. That is the location I visit most often and over the years I have seen it deteriorate! Sauna, pool and spa are closed for weeks at a time, when they are open, they are beyond filthy: sediment at the bottom of both the pool and jacuzzi, murky water in the pool, dirty changing rooms, unidentified bugs crawling on the sauna floor (which was always brought to the attention of the front desk staff) ... an absolute nightmare to the point that patrons had to call Maricopa County Health Department several times for violations. Now for weeks that location has both the pool and the jacuzzi closed with no date of reopening. So, I go to the 710 W. Camelback location only to find the jacuzzi indefinitely closed by the order of the Maricopa Health Department as a health risk. Sauna barely heats up, and the pool is beyond freezing! Now I am an experienced swimmer and a cooler pool is preferable to the overheated one, but this one is fit for a polar bear swim! This is absolutely inexcusable! I live in an HOA condo complex and when we have a serious issue like this (and we had several in the past two years), the management company gets things repaired within days, even when there is a need for parts replacement. And your LA Fitness location managers can't do it for weeks and sometimes even months! Additionally, one can never get hold of the location managers, staff is curt, short, and some downright rude when interacting with patrons who dare ask questions. The only years that the 2077 E. Camelback operated as it should, were when Chad (I don't remember the last name) was the general manager at that location. He was efficient and friendly with patrons, he got things done, and he made sure the place was always clean and working properly. Since he was promoted to the regional manager, things went downhill and stayed downhill. Over the years, I tried calling the corporate office many times about issues at the Camelback location and never got anywhere: never got to speak with anyone and calls went to voicemail and were never returned. This is a blatant, complete, utter disregard and disrespect of patrons who pay your dividends and bonuses! It is HIGH TIME that corporate leadership take interest and make things right. Not that I believe they ever will! I am not holding my breath that anything will be done - after all, all past attempts to get operations improved and facilities brought up to functional condition in central Phoenix were ignored. But, maybe, perhaps, per chance we might see some action from leadership that will make it possible for LA Fitness patrons to have the repairs done efficiently and quickly so they can enjoy the membership benefits they are paying for, rather than having to look for alternate fitness places. Overall, this is a pretty good gym! I find the management friendly and attentive to the needs of their members. The cleaning staff are top tier and do way more than the average gym in regard to cleaning and I've been to many of gyms throughout my life! All-in-all, if you're looking for a nice place to frequent and work on your health and fitness, this gym satisfies all anyone could want. It even has a B Bar which serves a ton of health conscious food and beverages to get that little edge slow of us need! read more

Perhaps a staff who actually occupied the front desk would be a start. Signage instructing members to do their reps and then vacate the machine would be lovely. They only have one hip adduction machine, it seems a popular spot for people to sit and watch videos-talking 20 minutes without doing a rep. When I asked if I could pop in and do my reps he said just one more. Fifteen minutes later and he is still roosting there. read more

This LA Fitness is good, but not great. Pretty much everything you'd expect from a gym and it isn't too crowded unless it's peak hours. The machines aren't new but they're usually mostly working and decently maintained. Wish they had water fountains meant for water bottles, there are very few fountains and it's difficult to fill up taller water bottles with them. read more

They added a bunch of squat racks and removed other equipment that was useful and already limited. Also, all the extra space which was utilized by people previously for weight lifting is now crowded by the extra equipment which is also blocking walkways, will be switching to EOS. read more

My partner and I walked in to sign up, as we knew we wanted to sign up and didn't need much convincing - and he took an HOUR. This included the standard tour of the facilities, and also trauma-shaming his ex, a DV victim. He also included us in his personal frustration with an employee that was presently working at the front desk as he signed us up. Not good at all!!! Went here just recently and tonight on 10/6 the guy at the front desk with glasses was rude and no customer service at all. I always return back any equipment I borrowed. And they have their policies of giving your ID back when you return anything and this 1st time he ends up throwing my ID on the counter and expects to walk around to get it and he couldn't just give it to me in my hand and he didn't say anything. The gym itself is fine. Pretty much just a standard LA Fitness. Nothing wrong with the equipment or the staff. The criticism is the hours. They open 3 hrs later on the weekend then during the week. Its EXTREMELY inconvenient for people trying to maintain a routine. What's worse is that every Saturday or Sunday I get there before they open and theres always a massive group of people just standing outside waiting for them to open which clearly shows I'm not the only person inconvenienced by this. read more

Roger also helped me get an affordable plan for myself and friends and family. Love the gym , Sauna is key and there are good basketball runs on Sunday morning , and most evenings. I love this gym. Everyone is so kind, and you are always greeted with a bright smile when you first walk in.

One of the employees refused to believe me that one of the equipment needed it to be fix. He kept denying it saying I'm wrong. Even when I use that cable machine all the time so of course I will notice when something doesn't feel right. The employee pick a random person who wasn't experienced enough about gym equipment maybe just to prove he was right. I didn't appreciate how he wasn't open minded so I left that area of the gym. Harassed by manager here named Big Mike, tall, white, old, glasses, hat. Tried using me to hit on the women working out here which I found very disrespectful to them and my time. When I'd ignore him he'd get very angry and threw temper tantrums. He then began following me around the gym watching me, trying to go behind me to see what I was doing on my phone, blatantly interrupting my workout in a passive aggressive manner and would humiliate me in front of other customers, usually women. He'd tell something negative about me to other staff members who would then do the same. I wrote 3 complaints, last being sent to corporate about his behavior. I take the gym seriously due to working in the security field but he tried anything to make my time here as uncomfortable as possible while trying to upset me and ruin my workout. And warning; they practice fake reviews and report negative ones such as mine, they've reported several of the same review I've done, including on Google, and had it taken off but I'll continue to re-review because of their terrible behavior and treatment of their customers. read more

I like this gym as the average gym goer but thank god my first personal training session was free and I didn't waste any money on it. "Big Mike" is a little too self serving when it comes to his profession. I told him I wanted to lose weight and he suggested a "bulk phase" so I would lose as little muscle as possible. That's fine and dandy, but I don't think that's worth doing right now. He didn't seem to understand that I'm not looking to be a bodybuilder or an Instagram baddie. I just want to be healthy. He asked me "what kind of body are you trying to achieve?" .. um, what a harmful question to ask. MY BODY? But HEALTHY? That's what I want. He feeds into outdated early 2000s diet culture rhetoric (coming from someone who is not an SJW by the way). Also, when I was exercising with him, he stopped in the middle of our session to answer a lengthy question from another gym goer. He ignored me for like 5 minutes to talk to her. If I paid money for that session and he ignored me like that, I'd cancel my membership. read more

Came out with my partner to check out this facility on a free three day pass. When we got here after making the half hour trip we were instead told that because we were in from out of town we would be charged $20 each for a day pass, a policy listed nowhere online in any policies. Very frustrated with condition of the pool. Water is so cloudy you cannot even see the bottom ! This happens regularly . It is an extreme health hazard . I have been a member since 2002 and I pay $150 per year due to the special they were running back then. That was supposed to include everything that they offered back then, even towels. Remember them? The only people I ever deal with is the front desk where they check you in and I've never had a problem there. I have never attended one of the classes here or had to deal with customer service. I just come in and work out and leave. I also try to avoid the busiest times but sometimes I get there after 4:30pm and it is not too bad, crowd wise. I feel I get a good workout overall. I use both the machines and free weights and usually don't have to wait very long to use the equipment. If a machine is being used I will find another one. Sometimes there will be members that will use a machine and stay on it between sets checking email or whatever on their cell phones. They keep up the equipment pretty well. I don't find the equipment down for repairs very often. The locker rooms are decent, no funny smells and they are kept pretty clean. The showers are also fine. They are the single stalls, not the one big room with several shower heads in the one shower room of the past. This is one of many that I use. It is nice to be able to use multiple locations so I use the one that is closest to where I happen to be going. This one is close to work so I will use this one after work. read more

They make it virtually impossible to cancel your membership, having to go in person, and then you have to try to guess when the manager might be there because supposedly no one else is capable of typing whatever information needs to go into their computer to cancel a membership. Even if the manager is there when they say the manager should be there, it's 9-5 on weekdays, so if you have an actual job you really can't cancel your gym membership. Shady. This place is terrible. Their billing practices are horrific and staff is not helpful or companionate at all. I signed up a while ago but unfortunately had to stop going because of severe back problems. I was walking with a cane for over 6 months and couldn't even think of a workout due to the extreme pain I was in. I had to call in several times to freeze my account and of course 2 additional payments came out while I was trying to freeze. I then needed to have major back surgery and knee it would be a very long time before I would be able to go back. I called in to cancel and was told I needed to come in to cancel my membership. I explained my situation and that I could not drive and they did not care, they said I needed to come in or fill out a form and send it in. If I send it in it could take up to 8 weeks to cancel. This was crazy to me, I would have to continue paying for 8 weeks because I had surgery and could not drive? I asked to speak with the manager but they said he was not available. I called in again a few days later and asked for the manager and he was unavailable again. Finally 4 months later I am able to drive and went into the gym to cancel. The girl at the front asked how she could help and I told her I needed to cancel. She took my information and said to have a seat while the manager reviewed it. I asked to speak with the manager but he was unavailable..... how was he going to review if he was unavailable? 15 minutes later she called me up and told me it was canceled. I saw the date was over a month later that it would be canceled. I let her know that I needed it canceled today as medically I could not go to the gym. She told me I paid my last month and I can feel free to enjoy the gym until the official cancel date. I asked to speak with the manager but he was still unavailable. I asked her to request a refund for the last month that I will not use and she said she would send the request to the manager. I asked if I could talk to the manager instead of her sending the request and she said he was unavailable. Anyone see a pattern here? 10 minutes later she calls me up again and tells me the manager was not able to grant my request. I asked to speak to the manager and wouldn't you know, he was unavailable. Be careful before signing a contract with this company. read more

To be honest, I came to this location about 4 years ago, and did not feel welcome at all, I felt totally out of place. Let's just say that I ended up at the "cheap " gym down the street. Fast forward to this week, and one of my best friends invited me to come to "her gym" and I walked in and, at first, I had the same anxiety as the first visit. BUT, the vibe was totally different now in 2021. It is a clean, well equipped and well-maintained gym, with an eclectic mixture of people which personally makes me feel really comfortable. (It's not just scary, intimidating body builders) The best part was my first free personal training session after signing up! I have had many, many, many personal training sessions, Boot Camp, etc., but Braxton actually made everything feel super personalized for the first time. Talking to him hasn't seemed forced, uncomfortable or judgmental. In fact, quite the opposite and I look forward to working my butt off some more in this gym! read more

I am writing this to compliment Kaylee. She was working the front desk on the morning of March 5th. I am in town on business, and in the past I have been able to use the Phoenix gyms. However, this morning, Kaylee explained that I would be unable to use the gym unless I paid the $5 fee. She took her time showing me the issue, while explaining to me who I need to call to fix the issue. I have been going to LA fitness, and other gyms for years . For the most part dealing with kids that have no idea about policies, or interest in learning them. Most are disinterested and many times rude. Kaylee was the exact opposite. Friendly, knowledgeable and a true active listener. If I was LA Fitness, they might want to find a way to move her to a higher position. I didn't have any problems with the gym, the very few times I went. However, this entire company practices extremely predatory billing. I simply have run it of options to cancel my membership. I've gone into a branch to cancel. I've submitted their snail mail forms. I've tried to call them, and email them. They have charged my credit card 6 times after I submitted their paperwork. I think it all gets tossed in the trash. There is no way to cancel! I've had to put a stop payment on my credit card and now I'm disputing the last 6 months of charges. Now, they call me EVERY DAY to let me know there's a problem with my cc. But no one writes any notes in my account file about this harassment, and I'll get another call tomorrow. They are wise enough to call from different numbers so I cannot block. How is this legal? My advise is to never give them your account info. There are way better gyms who will cancel your membership when you ask. BTW my husband is dying of cancer and we cannot afford this gym membership anymore. Why am I still being harassed? My boyfriend and I had a membership here until we moved away. Before moving, we called and explained that we needed to cancel our membership. We were told to go in personally and cancel while managers were there because the individual on the phone couldn't cancel it. We went in the next day so the managers could cancel our account. Going in the next day, the manager was on the phone and couldn't help us and the individual at the front desk said they'd relay the message of our cancellation when their manager was done. A few days pass and we noticed they still charged us and did not cancel our account. We had to go in for a third time and make sure it was all done. They said we wouldn't get refunded the charge although they had poor communication with one another. We switched to EOS on Washington St. and have had an amazing experience.
