Will not recommend it at all the staff is rude. I tried to add my mom as a secondary person in my account. They told me it's gonna be just $15. No they open her a completely new account without my permission while they told me it was gonna be just 15 $ no 39$ and I opened my account May 29 by June 13 I was charged over $200 for less than a month,I went one time .when I spoke with the personal they refused to help me they were really rude. I use to like this club . (Richfield)I only used it for the pool but the pool was always to cold and was not clean and it was hard to tolerate trying to use a lane certain times and some people use it as some kind of bath house and sit there so I can't use a lane to do my workout . The Edina pool Was better but better to use it during the week day have better chances of getting a lane . read more

The equipment is dated and often in disrepair. The men's bathroom is constantly out of paper towels on the weekends. The staff at the front desk often ignore you as you walk in or leave, especially on the weekends. Just tired of the poor service, out of order signs on equipment and dirty men's locker room and bathroom. Forget signing up for a personal trainer, they don't have enough of them. read more

I had a terrible experience at LA Fitness in Richfield, MN (6501 Lyndale Ave S). When I signed up for personal training, I told the staff I had a wedding coming up in two months and needed to finish all my sessions within that time. He verbally agreed and said I could use my sessions as needed -- without having to pre-pay -- just pay monthly. That's the only reason I signed. But when I asked to read the contract, he literally said, "You don't need to read it, I'll just tell you what it says," and rushed me through signing. I wasn't allowed to take my time or fully understand what I was agreeing to. Now, they're denying everything we talked about and trying to force me to pre-pay or lose the sessions. They won't help unless I pay more. It honestly feels like they only cared about getting money from me and never planned to honor the agreement. I've already filed a BBB complaint, and I won't stop until it's resolved. Please don't let them take away your right to read the contract like they did to me. Be careful and make sure everything is in writing before signing anything at this location. read more

First off, I were to base my rating on my sales advisor, Mike, he would get a 5 star rating; he is super friendly and helpful. This is my go-to gym when I'm in town and he always is willing to help sign my up without a fuss. This gym is never crazy busy, which I love. Plenty of light (I don't like dungeonee feel gyms) and I am always able to get a good workout in as there are plenty of machines and free weights. There is also plenty of cardio machines; I've never had to wait for a machine. Always someone cleaning and there is a protein shake shop (the guy who runs it is always super friendly). I want to be able to get in and get out when it comes to my workouts and this gym has never given me problems with that. Although I'd like to see is more hours it's functional, and fuss free. read more

I actually do not mind this LA Fitness... in comparison to the Edina location. This one is pretty clean, has a good flow of machines and is never too too crowded (even at the prime time). I never get bothered by staff, which is amazing in itself, I am the type I just want to go to the gym and workout and be left alone - if I wanted personal training I would ask for it. The sauna is always super hot and as far as I have experienced it hasn't had any issues with it being out of service. The spin class here is also amazing, I do appreciate that they have it at 530pm for those that work during the day. read more

Not sure about the other posts here and how they dealt with the pandemic. I don't much care anymore. I have been a member here for about 18 months and I have been very happy here. One of the cleanest gyms I have been to and they keep cleaning throughout the day. Certainly, I wish other members were better about putting weights away and all of that, but generally speaking, these guys do a great job. Love it here and plan to stay! read more

Been going to LA fitness for 8 years. I love the variety of equipment and amenities. For what you pay and what you receive in return it is a very nice gym to belong to. Many locations also have a smoothie bar. I would say my favorite locations are Richfield for the amount of treadmills and the terraced spin room, Burnsville for the size and not feeling too packed with machines and finally Apple Valley for the second floor with treadmills. With that being said, it's worth it to pay the one time upfront fee to go to any location you want. LA fitness offers free classes as well, whether it be spin class or yoga and many many more. read more

Updating my review because even though I really like this place, it doesn't feel comfortable to go to during covid. Staff does not wear masks, nor do most gym members. I never see staff wiping down surfaces, and while they do provide disinfectant for the machines, they are sometimes out of paper towels. I will return once it's safer go here or if the city imposes a mask mandate. read more

*I am writing this on behalf of a friend who does not feel comfortable sharing her experiences of sexual harassment on a public forum* I have had a horrendous experience with LA Fitness as a whole, but especially this location. It has been a series of one unprofessional situation after another. I initially felt pressured to sign on for a personal training membership by the aggressive staff. The terms were not well explained to me as I would not have started paying nearly $200 for 2 hours of personal training a month. There was a period of 3 months that I was ethically unable to go to this location because of sexual harassment incidences there. Even after getting lawyers involved, they would not let me out of my contract. Finally after 3 months of going back and forth, they allowed me to switch training to another location. By the time my contract was ending, I was extremely relieved to be done with LA Fitness. I met with the personal training director (at the second location - Edina - I had to switch to) to end my contract, and I repeatedly told him I did not want to sign on for more time with LA Fitness. Even after that day, I was charged 3 times for a month-to-month contract that I did not agree to. Due to some unrelated issues with my bank account, I did not see that the money was being taken out. As soon as I noticed, I called to stop the charges. Apparently only the personal training director at Richfield is the only one that can cancel the payments. I stopped in and called every few days over a few weeks, and I have yet to hear back from him. While LA Fitness is an affordable facility with convenient locations, they have NO INTEGRITY. Their sole focus is to make money, and they have no desire to serve individuals. read more

This is a large facility with plenty of space and equipment. It's usually pretty clean when I'm in there, there are always at least 2 people actively cleaning during the day. I've heard from a number of sources that there have been thefts in the men's locker room, apparently this was not addressed by the staff when it occurred. This is unacceptable and reflects poor management. It's also far too warm in here during the summer, close to 80 degrees, sometimes warmer. There also seems to be a lot of turnover and aside from the weekend, the front desk is not usually friendly. I do like the automated checkin though as it's nice not to have to deal with unfriendly staff. I have heard good things about the trainers although this isn't a service I've used. read more

I did this twice with proof of receipt but they claim it was never received and have charged my card for 4 months after the 2nd certified mail cancellation letter was sent. Do not join this club! It is a scam. Once they authorize the billing for your membership, they make it as difficult as possible to stop payment. Their website often malfunctions and when you go there to cancel, they will refuse to do anything. When you call customer service to complain they will repeat the same rules that did not work and prompted you to visit the premises and then hang up. It is impossible to cancel unless you spend hours on it. I have also witnessed outright racial discrimination there and even assisted one victim of it legally (I am a lawyer). read more

On one occasion I saw one of the staff talking with a customer and another staff member. Only one of staff was wearing a mask. The only upside of this gym is how close it is to south MPLS and the highway exit is right there. Otherwise it's not great, they have plenty of equipment but if you go after 4 you'll be waiting forever to get on a machine. The staff is pretty rude to be honest and they don't keep the scanner where you can just scan and go for some reason it's by them and they put it up as you come in which means you have to wait for them if there with someone. Also the men's bathroom is destroyed every time I go with no paper towels/toilet paper. I go 5 days a week. LA really needs to open a 2nd Minneapolis location to alleviate the amount of traffic read more

Overall a nice gym. The pool is a smaller than other locations. Sauna is hot, locker rooms are tiled verse carpet and maintenance does a nice job keeping them clean. Lots of bikes here! Plenty of cardio machines assisting in burning down calories. All located on first floor near the entrance and very busy. We bought our plan during one of no down payment events - $29 per month per person. read more

Very poor customer service. I was a member of LA FITNESS for the last one and half years. I have tried to cancel my LA Fitness personal training. I asked them to sign me up for 2 months instead of that they sign me up for 12 months and they did not mention anything about penalty or buy out . I told the same thing to BRAD VP OF MINNESOTA. I live in Uptown but have been going here pretty religiously the last couple of months. The place is massive, clean, and has great updated cardio machines. You can ALWAYS find a machine even during peak hours - right after work or on the weekends. The fact that the place is a monstrosity helps during these peak times. Some of the machines are busted and take a while it seems to fix but then again it's LA Fitness. There is one wacky lady that likes to walk around briskly with her Walkman - and make loud outbursts - instead of actually getting on an actual treadmill, but that's a small annoyance. This is a no frills gym but I love the fact that you can get in and get the job done. Parking is fine and the staff are pleasant. Everybody pays something different. Everyone. Never pay a sign-up fee here. Ever. Haggle like you did for your last car. And lastly, ZERO wifi which is VERY annoying! That's why I'm giving the gym only 3 stars. I'm on a 4GB data plan and near maxed out for the month due to streaming music or movies while working out. A small price to pay for health I suppose. read more

I've removed my previous review and all my commentary so that I don't get sued. I still stand by my 2 star rating of "Meh. I've experienced better." Because I have. Fact: The roman chairs are still too small for my 6'6" frame. Contrary to what an employee actually told me, no, the smaller one really does not give me "a better workout". The facility does not have any horizontal roman chairs. Those really DO give you a better workout since they're harder due to gravity playing a heavier role. Fact: Broken machines are not fixed timely. I've "reported" to the front desk staff machines that are in need of servicing, and they can barely be bothered to look up from their cell phones to document it. Fact: Weight machines and weight benches are often occupied by people texting or talking on their cell phones or staring at themselves in the mirror. Get off, I'm trying to work out so I can get the hell out of there. No, your muscles aren't bigger than last time, but your fake tan is probably darker than last time. Fact: The hot tub is often occupied by those that think the hot tub IS the shower. Hence, I don't go in the hot tub. read more

This place is simply terrible. The gym mats stink and are never sanitized, much of the equipment is broken (medicine balls, weight machines, drinking fountains) or missing (free weights, machine accessories), and the locker rooms are poorly maintained. The other huge problem is the trainer situation. The turn over rate for trainers is abysmal and trying to get a training time is like pulling teeth, unless you are one who likes to work out at 8 pm on friday nights. The funny thing is they have enough sales people there to schedule a "fitness evaluation" to sell you training at all times, but not enough to fulfill their sales promises. I was here for 1 day and felt uncomfortable. I felt overwhelmed with questions, setting up an appointment for an assessment, and paying. Why does it take over an hour to join the damn club? The first trainer I met, who insisted I have to do an assessment, was rude to me because I explained I'm bettering my life with herbalife and a gym membership. I was so annoyed that I cancelled my assessment and am now going to the edina facility after work. They make you feel you have to do the assessment, even though I explained I can't afford a trainer. This location is absolutely huge! There's a pool (and a hot tub), multiple racquetball courts, a juice bar, and so many cardio machines, I cant possibly fathom the differences between them all. For me though, choosing a gym is all about group fitness. I just have no ability to push myself if someone isn't there looking at me, and thank goodness they have quite a few instructors that will motivate me enough to walk out feeling like an athlete. The spin classroom here is fricken awesome! So much room and the rows are on an incline so it's really easy to see the instructor. Everyone I've taken a class with here has been completely different, which makes it easier to come back for another tough class while you're still sore because you know you'll work a totally different set of muscles. If you're coming to a Saturday morning class, make sure you are there at least ten minutes early, it's super popular and I've come in five til and had no seat before. Zumba here has been a pretty big disappointment on the other hand. Monica is good, but literally every other class I've been to has been more like an 8 year olds birthday party than a fitness class. I find this happens a lot with Zumba, the focus is so much on fun, that they forget the workout part. If I don't leave sweating, you're doing it wrong. Like I said though, Monica's classes are good. Try to stand near the front, because there a ton of old people who think Zumba is the hippest thing they've ever tried that crowd around her and make it hard to see the moves. Other classes I like include Body Works (especially with Suzanne) and Step plus Abs. Both of these are really tough, but if you're consistent these instructors are great and you will start to see yourself improve. I'm really happy with how I'm improving my health at this club, and group fitness is a big part of that. read more

Joining LA Fitness was my first venture back into a gym in years. And I am mostly very pleased with it. I haven't visited the other gyms in the area yet. But from what I've experienced and what I hear, the Richfield location is much fancier than the others. Everything, gym, locker rooms, pool/hot tub, has always been impeccably clean when I go. Many gym pools and saunas just feel gross and reek of sweat and stale air. But LA's pool ceilings are so high and bright, with tons of natural light. And it always smells fresh and clean. This location is really large too. There are so many machines! And every cardio machine has a mini TV with cable channels attached. More luxury than I have at home! I absolutely love watching the Property Brothers on HGTV as I work the elliptical :) Even at peak times, I have no trouble getting on the weight and cardio machines I want to use. I especially like the inner & outer thigh weight machines. You can tone up your legs really fast if you're dedicated to those. The free weights area is a little intimidating at first, especially as a plus sized woman. But once you get used to it you'll find that people are respectful and mostly keep to themselves. I feel less intimidated by the gym scene than I thought I would be. I see people of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities here. The only thing I don't like about this gym is that they don't have Wifi. I really hope that changes in the future. I have a limited data plan on my phone and it'd be really nice not to have to eat it all up while using Pandora at the gym. read more

The one star goes for all LA FITNESS locations as it's more of an enrollment policy problem. Not everyone pays the same rates, it all depends on how you haggle with them and when you sign up. If you go at the end of the month, don't sign up for anything more than $29.99 with ZERO initiation fee. If you go at the beginning of the month, you'll pay more. The good- CHEAP, dirt cheap, the problem with this though is during peak afternoon and evening hours, it's super packed. I go to this LA Fitness almost daily and it's perfectly fine. I have read most of the other remarks, and would like to address some of it. I neither work for nor am posting on behalf of anyone but me. First, the issue of breakins says more about the neighborhood than it does LA Fitness. I mean, the gym could "care" enough to implement aggressive security measures, but that "caring" amounts to a member fee surcharge for everyone. LA Fitness is already fairly spendy, so I am fine with just keeping belongings out of sight. And if need be, go to a different LA Fitness. Second, the machines are as fine for their kind as I have seen anywhere. They do not have a running track, and that is my one complaint. (I dislike treadmills but they have an arsenal of those.) The men's locker room could be larger, but then again fees would be more expensive since they might have to cover costs with fewer people. The place gets deluged on weekends and any night with a class. If you need a running track or a spacious locker room, then yes the Richfield LA Fitness falls short. I am very fine with it as is. UPDATE: Since my initial review I have started taking some classes. My four-star rating stands. The classes I take at least occasionally are Zumba, Yoga, Step Abs. The instructors are fine. Inevitably you would favor one over another as I do, but I have yet to see any unprofessional conduct. They have WiFi. Yay! As for the mats. ANY public mat, anywhere, is bad news. Long story short, buy one. Richfield LAF's is no more or less sanitary than anyone else's. I never found the sales staff to be pushy, but then I like going there. Take that as you will. Stationary biking (I refuse to call it "spinning") has never been my thing but the biking class looks remarkably unappealing to me. Bikes are packed into the one room like sardines, and the room is about as well ventilated. However, any class always seems packed so obviously someone loves it. read more
