They let men work in the women's locker rooms without informing the women who are already in the locker rooms (partially or fully naked). I was in the sauna in my underwear and a man barged in with a flashlight. I told the manager what happened and she said, "sorry." I didn't feel reassured it won't happen again or that they have any kind of protocol around it. I don't think I will feel relaxed here any more. read more

It is tragic that when I go downstairs at this Roosevelt location, intending to work up a vigorous sweat on the selectable-plate resistance machines, that nobody else seems to want to work up a sweat. Whenever I am trying to work at a steady pace, and move from one machine to another, most of the other members are monopolizing the equipment by sitting lazily on the machines, all the while staring at their phones. Hey, after all, the seats ARE comfortable, and everybody else does it! What can a fitness center do about this? Well, it would be nice if LA Fitness could put up a sign encouraging members to stand up and move away at the end of their set, and share their equipment with other members. LA Fitness could even provide little chairs or small benches, for the smart-phone addicts to sit on between sets. As for me, I like to quickly do my set, and then move on to the next machine---combining resistance training with cardio training. My approach is designed for overall health! I signed up for a 3-month personal training engagement and went month-to-month after the initial 3 months. I called to cancel my month-to-month, yet they continued to bill me. Called the club manager (Kiril) who stated they had no record of my request. This is the second major issue I have had with Kiril, and he has refused to work with me to resolve the issues. If you are smart, you will steer clear of any additional contracts outside of your monthly membership. For what it's worth, the club is a good value for the money, but the management is unethical. read more

I recently joined the LA Fitness Gym in Roosevelt, Seattle and had a great experience with Personal Fitness trainer Kirill. Kirill was super fun, positive, responsive and gave me some great advice! He showed me a workout plan that was just right, hit all my areas and showed me how to gradually increase the challenge to get stronger. I was nervous about being at the gym but he made it easy and fun to be there! I highly recommend him to people with lots of experience but also to people who are just trying to get back in shape. I have been a longtime member of LA Fitness. I find the manager of the Roosevelt gym to be friendly highly competent individual. I have also notice the executive management of these outlets go through manager like diapers of parents of infants. Some of the issues regarding any negative reviews lie in the fact many of the customers are far to insular and tend not to notice the what is going right. The place is clean set up for expedient efficiency of use (with the exception of 22 steps) the separate the entrance to the locker room area. Both Andrew and Catherine are the heart of this gym, consistently creating a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere. I've literally never interacted with the salespeople/staff here (signed up pre-sale before it even opened), which seems to be the cause of the majority of the poor reviews. My review is for the actual gym itself, which is completely fine and serviceable. Yes, it's small. Yes, it can be crowded, and you'll feel the squeeze during peak times where you'll absolutely be pressed for space. Yes, it's very close to a High School and occasionally there will be small groups of teenagers occupying a power rack just messing around with each other. But, if anything breaks/is out of service, things get fixed quickly. When it first opened, there were only two power racks, but they've since added 2 additional platforms, which has been a huge help alleviating the bottleneck on the weight area. I also love the fact that they have a whirlpool and dry sauna in each locker room--they're absolutely clutch for the Winter months. My only gripe with the facility is that the cleaning doesn't seem very detailed--the whirlpool has had some dirt up on the tile walls for quite a few weeks now, so I'm not sure how thorough the locker room cleaning is. read more

Pros: the gym is gargantuan, has tons of equipment , pool, basketball court, etc. Con: -the gym is always crowded, any time of the week. Sunday 10am or Tuesday 5pm or Friday 6pm, it is always hard to do a workout without waiting for equipment or seats by the free weights. -large amount of machines requiring maintenance. -a number of small paper cuts that add to frustration, for example: locker rooms running out of paper, water fountains have too low of pressure, running out of wipes to clean machines, etc. read more

I bought a gym membership and a personal training membership with LA Fitness. The sales director assured me that I could stop the membership early due to an upcoming move. I was very clear with him and he assured me it would not be a problem. When I went to terminate due to the move, it has been anything but simple. I've spoken to no less than 5 people there. This is the worst la fitness location in Seattle, hands down. If you go there just for cardio it might be okay but doing any lifting here is incredibly stressful. Lifting room is underground with cramped, out of service machines. There are only two squat racks in the entire gym. I obviously understand peak, after work hours are gonna be crowded anywhere but no gym made me feel this claustrophobic. My workout that normally takes little over an hour normally easily takes 2 hours here with lines for every equipment I'm trying to use. I did not have any negative interactions with the employees specifically but the place being it is, if you're stuck with la fitness membership do yourself a favor and lift in any location but here. read more

Was sent a guest pass from a friend & when i signed up for it online, I got a call asking when I would come in to activate it. I told them a time the same day & arrived only to sit for 45 minutes. Apparently the one person who can activate a guest pass was on lunch. I am not sure why they let me wait that long without even informing me of this, but when the receptionist asked the other guy sitting at the desks if he could activate my pass, he rudely told her he was busy...as he sat on his phone. They didn't offer a remedy other than allowing me to keep waiting, so I naturally left. I don't understand why they bothered to call me if they were going to waste my time, but I'll be finding somewhere else to work out. read more

I arranged for a guest pass to be used, received a phone call from the gym setting up an appointment time to meet with Hunter, 12:30pm 6/29/2021. I arrived on time, checked in with the front dest clerk who went back to get Hunter. He proceeded to walk right pass me, while standing at the front desk and the clerk informed me he's out to lunch. My entire intention was to sign up and pay in full for a membership at this club so she brought me to another club representative. He gave me a whirlwind walk around of the facility and when we went back to his desk promptly informed me that I would not be allowed to utilize the quest pass and could come back in 2 weeks or pay 20$ for the privilege of trying out the facility. He told me that each club had only so many slots available for guest passes and that they were too busy/crowded to allow me in as a guest. I looked out into the main floor of the gym and said, there is nobody here what are talking about. He said it sucked but that was the clubs policy. I told him I traveled all this way, intended to sign up and pay in full and you're telling me to come back in two weeks... I left the facility, called the LA Fitness Signature Club in Ballard, ranted for the first 5 minutes of my phone call, explained to them what just happened. The membership representative gave me a 1:30pm time slot, I drove over there, signed up for a membership, paid in full and worked out for the next two hours. I found the whole mess at the 6416 Roosevelt Way NE facility to be the most unprofessional and the worst customer service experience ever. read more

Many busses stop just outside of the North windows of the facility, 24 hours a day CONS: Roosevelt Square has limited parking upstairs (up to three hours), and you have to pass by the homeless people to get to the club. RESISTANCE TRAINING AREAS (LOWER FLOOR) PROS: Interesting selection of Matrix, Hoist and other brands. Staff is good about initiating repair orders. CONS: Many members frequently lounge on the machines, texting on their mobile phones, and not actually exercising. Has anybody heard of working up a sweat? LOCKER ROOMS (I can only speak for the men's) The most cramped locker room of any LA Fitness I have been to. Front desk staff admits there are already locker-room thefts. The gym is fine but watch out for the fine print. I signed up for 6 months of personal training but have kept on being charged for 8 months. Turns out, it was up to the member to opt-out so they would have just kept charging me for the rest of time had I not caught on. I made an appointment to sign up to do the free 3 day trial they have listed on their website. Beware that if you go in, they will not let you use it and will say it's actually $20 for the day. I received a tour of the space, which seemed to have everything I'm looking for in a gym, but the point of doing a trial is to be able to see if it truly is a good fit. For me, it's important to do a trial to check out the gym at diff times of the day that I would be using it to see what the crowds are like. I also want to get a feel of if the cycle classes held are good and also to see what the overall vibe is like. I have been to gyms where I received really creepy and uncomfortable vibes before and at least a 3 day trial would give me a better idea of that. What's funny is that this experience of being told the 3 day trial is only for people who plan on signing up has made me not want to sign up at all. It makes no sense to tell people that the trial is for people who decide to sign up the same day Lol. I think they should take off the option to even do a trial if they are going to tell you it's $20 for a day pass. I passed on the day pass and she then tried to play it off like she was giving me a deal by saying she could hold my ID and then when I'm done working out I could discuss the payment plans again. How about just let me use the 3 day pass and figure out if I'm going to sign up with you or another gym I have in mind??? Very strange way to do business and reasoning makes no sense. Just be really aware when you sign up that it will be a constant sales pitch. It's cheap and not dirty but when you're ready to cancel, they'll tell you something new: you have to come in, in person, and cancel with the manager. That was never mentioned when I signed up. First of all, that's BS. Second, get ready for another sales pitch. Also, if you're interested in personal training, you'll sit for part 1 of sales pitch, go do a training that they do with everyone (although I mentioned injuries and specific things to avoid, I know a friend did the exact same workout when considering the training), and then finish off with more sales. If you've ever been a member at a real gym where the focus is health and wellness and not constant sales, this will be really hard to sit through without wanting to laugh/scream/walk out. Feels like I accidentally walked into a time share open house. UPDATE: after calling and again expressing how ridiculous it was that I needed to come in and cancel, WITH THE PERSON I WAS TALKING ON THE PHONE at that very moment, I got no sales pitch when I arrived. So there's that. But after reading the complaints on the BBB website about LA Fitness, I'll be keeping an eye on my credit card statement. read more

If you are looking for a gym that cares about your health and safety, this is probably not it. They have a decent array of equipment options considering the gym size, but there is no pool or basketball courts, if that's a dealbreaker for you. The equipment is often in disrepair: the very few exercise mats they have are all gross and crumbling so bits come off onto you and your clothing, the machines usually need an oiling and shudder when you use them making you work harder and unsafely, and several of the bench and machine pads have large tears. The spa and sauna are also broken a lot. They are often lacking in sanitizer and equipment cleaning wipes, and their idea of handling that is putting up a sign at the desk that reads "we are aware of the lack of wipes and paper towels" and leaving it at that. It should be noted that I got ringworm for the first time in my adult life because of their lack of cleaning products. The staff are cold and unresponsive to concerns, except the folks who mop are usually friendly. Overall, I still come here because it's a convenient location for me and I can still get a good workout in and the cost is pretty average for the area, but most days I find myself actively working off my frustration with the management of the place. read more

Gym is smaller but has what I need. Clean and well-maintained so far. Music in the downstairs weights area is too loud. I can't listen to music or a podcast without hearing the gym's music too. I've left feedback on this with the staff twice and heard no noticeable change since. I am forced to either work out to the gym's music or make the drive out to the Ballard location where the music is at a reasonable volume. Public, background music should be just that- background. It doesn't need to be blasting and is certainly not intended to fuel patrons' workouts. This is coming from someone who worked at a gym for 4 years and worked out at LA fitness gyms without an issue for 7. The staff I've interacted with have been friendly and welcoming otherwise. read more

I've been a member for several years. I got offered a guest pass for my partner. Today I got a call from someone called Samantha asking me to activate my guest pass. She was being pushy and asking what time I will be at the gym. I said I'm not sure and then disrespectfully hung on me. I called her back and she was rude again. I asked her to talk with her manager. I'm giving a high review because I decided to visit this location after completing some errands in the area and the experience was very pleasant. My home gym is the Ballard LA Fitness. It's very much a city gym being more compressed than the usual size. It's clean and new, though, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Clean and a Great location however the gym staff is not welcoming at all to new comers...you would think they should be considering how empty it was inside. The girl sitting at the front desk kept showing micro aggressions telling us to put our equipment back while we were still using them....and the other girl kept approaching us to create a membership it was like they were down our backs about it..they didn't even have any good customer service so them asking us to open up a membership with them was not going to happen..make sure you speak up and don't be quick to give in. If I could give it a zero, I would but I can't so it receives a one. This place uses predatory sales tactics. I'm not sure if they think the "hard sell" is something that is helping them secure new memberships but it's gross and convinced me not to join. They do not actually let you use a guest pass. If I am going to switch gyms, I'm going to need to try it first. They will claim they can't authorize any new guest passes (even though I had already received one online) and they will tell you the only way to work out is to buy a $20 guest pass for ONE day or sign up for a membership. It's a snakey way to get people to spend money without actually allowing them to try the gym for themselves. The irony is that if they had backed off and let me just use the gym, I probably would have switched to their gym and they would have closed the sale. So disappointing that they don't have good customer service. The rude salesman that denied my guest pass said that this is a policy put in place by the manager, Hunter.
