Same guy, more dirty towels

At this location rules are not enforced unless you are skinny, short, fat or old, then the staff will come running to tell you that you misplaced the equipment or didn't clean the machine properly. If you are a muscle intimidating guy you can do whatever you want. These photos are a clear example, one guy holds up to 6 machines, leaving his dirty towels on each one. I've complained twice already to no avail. Seriously I get herrased by the staff because I misplaced a dumbbell while they just watch idlely while the intimidating big guys go around doing as they please. Incompetent staff who bully (if it can be called that) those who are just starting his journey in weightlifting while they leave alone anyone who could punch them back. Its a pity, this used to be a good gym, but not anymore since the management change. Quite sad actually

Mold

Is this what makes it better closing eyes and putting 5 STARS ? Working out under the mold, let's be real for God sake it's about every one's health, the LA Fitness in Silver Spring forget about the equipments

Nasty 2 inch ring of scum common around jacuzzi

I must caution prospective gym-goers in downtown Silver Spring, MD about the deplorable conditions and poor management at LA Fitness (8616 Cameron St). As a member since it opened in 2007, I share recent experiences (see pix for evidence): 1. Uncleanliness and Neglect: Shockingly poor hygiene including scum around the jacuzzi. 2. Constant Lack of Maintenance and Broken Equipment: Disrepair compromises safety. 3. Mismanagement and Communication Failures: Frequent pool closures without notice, misleading information, and mostly excuses from the "management" staff. 4. Safety Hazards: Recently there were exposed nails in the hallway to the pool from construction equipment which posed severe safety risks, especially for people with mobility issues and children. 5. Pool Chemical Imbalance: Cloudy water and dangerous pool chemical imbalances are the norm not the exception, posing health hazards. As a resident near LA Fitness, I find it appalling. With the Montgomery County Silver Spring Aquatic Center opening nearby, I suggest it as an alternative since the County prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and effective management (http://tinyurl.com/SSAquaticCenter). I strongly advise against becoming a member at LA Fitness, downtown Silver Spring, MD. Whatever positive reviews you see about downtown SS LA Fitness were probably written by employees or their friends. Check the LA Fitness members group on Facebook to verify that uncleanliness and lack of maintenance are ongoing issues at LA Fitness locations across the country.

THIRD WORLD STAY AWAY - I am reviewing everything in this gym and Wheaton location minus the physical trainers. PARKING - Some street parking but at night be careful, especially the parking garage. GYM - Pretty much 30% of the machines are broken or not operating. GYM PATRONS - Looks like they let anyone in - especially teenagers. Many bring tons of friends in and there is no gym dress code. Any where from "wife beaters", flip flops, and work boots. Busy times , they hang around and take up a lot of space and dont work out. GYM ETIQUETTE - There is none. Think "MARSHALLS/TJ MAXX on steroids. Everything is thrown everywhere. POOL - The lone positive. It is a nice pool with lane lines BUUUUT LOCKERROOM - Disgusting. Picture Chewbacca and all his wookie friends have a field day across the sinks, urinals, and toilets. Don't believe me look at photos. STAFF - Can't speak for them, but it appears they don't care because they allow the place to be that way with broken equipment, countless non-members entering, and overall cleanliness of place. Most of the reviews are correct regarding 2022 (if you read them all) except for the one guy that works for the gym. Always trust the straight shooter!!! (but none in this gym are straight shooters cuz theirs pee on the floor!)

I like this La fitness due to the location in downtown Silver Spring. The only thing I don't like is that it does not offer parking or parking reimbursements. It's $1 an hour at the garage next door, but you can park for free before 7 am and after 7 pm. I usually go before 7 am and the weekends are free so I only go when it's free. I refuse to pay extra for a workout. It has two floors with a basketball court and group classes so you can get a well-rounded work out experience. I spend most of my time at the location in Laurel because of the parking situation. This location has great windows from the top floor to look out into the city and several fast-casual and regular restaurants within walking distance. I love the all set seafood restaurant across the street and I have had to walk 25 yards to the jimmy johns when my stomach started growling while on the squat rack. That was a life saver! I use the pool and they seem to have a spin room and a training area. Overall it is a good la fitness!

I started going to LA Fitness in Silver Spring 2 years ago when I decided I need to shed some extra weight. At first, I spent the first 3 months going 2 hours a day 5 days a week. I lost a weight of 40 pounds and I am happy to be returning now that covid restrictions have loosened up. If your looking for institutors that are passionate and have a good workout regiment La Fitness Silver Spring is for you!

Empty table where sanitization spray bottles sit
Brian K.

I recently moved to Silver Spring and just joined this gym during COVID phase 2. I'm highly disappointed in the lack of sanitization used on the equipment. They have 2 tables w/about 4-5 spray bottles of sanitizer. Customers take those bottles with them while working out instead of returning for others to use. This means out of 20 people workout out, only 5 are wiping their equipment down. Gym staff doesn't seem to monitor this at all. Instead of the cleaners/staff walking around randomly wiping equipment down, they are just sweeping the floors and leaving the equipment clean up to the customers. GOOD LUCK finding a single dumbbell under 35lbs! The weights are sporadically placed all over the rack and there are a ton of missing weights. THE PLUS SIDE: the gym is in a great location & the staff working the front counter are very friendly! (Pics are of empty/misplaced dumbells & the 2 empty sanitization tables - this is a typical / da

Adding onto the bounty of good reviews below. I started doing yoga at home to find peace and time…read morefor myself in a hectic and stressful life. The random ten minute videos on YouTube were fantastic starters, but I realized that I wanted something more so I found Grace, a studio local to me. The first session was free, so it was a good way to get introduced to the place and the people there. So let's start there. I almost had enough time to say hello to the receptionist when she recognized that I was a new face, smiled, and introduced herself to me. She offered a tour to me, which was friendly, but I was surprised that another attendee offered to take me on a tour herself! It was clear to me then that the friendliness was contagious. I really appreciate that the equipment is available at no cost. Having the mats, the blocks, the bands, and even blankets there meant that I could participate at the same level that more experienced yogis could. This first session, I rolled out in the back as Jade started speaking. The whole experience was wonderful, but something she said stood out to me: when someone's phone rang and they apologized, Jade responded with a smile and said "Don't be sorry. This just means someone's thinking of you." And then I knew that the community was eager to share their wisdom and peace with others. On the community board (which highlights members, friends, and local services) I saw that the first month was available for a reduced price, and after such a wonderful first experience, I knew I was going to sign up. I'm almost done with this month and have practiced under different instructors but have found them all incredibly welcoming. I also appreciate the ability to participate from home, which I've done on several occasions, and an equal level of engagement from the instructor. I've had a really positive experience thus far and am excited for many more months of good yoga and community!

I've also taken rise and rest yoga with Lenore. This was a relaxing way to wind down from a busy day. I recently competed a yoga strength class with Amy. This was an all-level class and she offered us options to modify or intensify each move. Amy played a nice mix of songs from her phone during the class; however, the music kept being interrupted by notification dings, which was distracting. Overall, I found Grace Studio to be a decent place for a yoga workout. The studio is equipped with mats, weights, blocks, resistance bands, and bolsters. Instructors offer verbal assists rather than hands-on adjustments for yoga moves. Instructors are welcoming, the studio is bright and inviting, and classes are not crowded.

I was so happy to find a small, independent yoga studio in my neighborhood to join and even more…read moredelighted after I started going to classes. As soon as you enter, it's obvious it's a nice studio with a welcoming vibe--the class instructor checks you in, and there's free tea and animal crackers to take while you get settled in and hang up your coat. There's a free lending library in the lobby, too. They don't charge for using their mats and props which was a pleasant surprise. And the classes themselves are great! A well-rounded practice and not over-crowded with attendees. They have a wide variety of class options (yin, Hatha, kundalini, pre-natal) as well as multi-week workshops and events. They offer classes both in person and live online. For a little studio they have a lot to offer! It's not the cheapest yoga spot in DC, and there are only about 5 classes per day, but it's been a great experience so far. I'm glad I took the leap and got a membership (also because the first month is half off!)

For the last 10 years I have been studying my own psychology and using Cognitive Behavioral Therapies to overcome the narcissistic abuse from my childhood home. Although understanding my circumstances has helped me overcome a lot, the growth that I have come into since joining this studio does not compare. Over the last 3 months I have stopped coping with my pain with the use of Marijuana. Through the intentional movement, breath work, and meditation on a regular basis I am now able to see my own projections and even those of others which has allowed to engage with the relationships in my life differently, more productively. I have also stopped disassociating in intimacy something I did not realize I was doing from being a victim of sexual assault and rape. This place has taught me how to come back to my body and be present in my life without bringing my past back into my present. I cannot say enough of how eternally grateful I am for this place that has become a community of support and guidance. Thank you to all the instructors who brought light back into my life. Even my trajectory of my current career path is changing. Manju Sadarangani, Kate Judson, Jenna Tomasello, Jen Skillicorn, Ametisse Gover-Chamiou, Alicia McBride, Meredith McCullough, Colleen Brisport Sequeda, and of course Rebecca Henry only to name a few you have all taught me more about my alignment, my breathing, my mind more than you know. You are not just teachers, you are angels and gifts and I do not take you for granted. Thank you all for what you do for our community to help make this world a better place. This place is one of recovery and peace in my soul. I can honestly say, I have finally reach a place of contentment and deep connection with myself which is leading to deeper connections with others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My concern is several classes were virtual only. I can't speak for everyone but I don't have the space to do a proper yoga class in my living room. But with my work schedule it's not easy to do so. In the future please be more up front with your students if not all the sessions will be in person. (Maybe it was mentioned and I didn't notice...it's possible. But it wasn't so clearly stated. If it had burn. I wouldn't have signed up) Sadly with this in mind I am less inclined to take another class. I may be paying less than other students but in the end did I actually save anything having missed several classes? **update: Anne, the owner, responded to this quickly. She apologized for the confusion and gave me a credit for the classes that were virtual only. Her excellent customer service and timely response are highly appreciated. I was pleased with both.
