His approach is very balanced in that he emphasized that you need both exercise and diet to lose weight and that fad diets are not healthy in the long term. He backs up his opinions with research and will talk to you in as much detail as you want without being overbearing. I was pretty adamant that I didn't want to diet but he respectfully nudged me to think a bit differently. He mixes the training sessions up with exercises that hit multiple muscle groups at once as well as more coordination/balance type work which is helpful to me for goals I have outside losing weight. I've been working with him for a little over a month, and I feel a lot stronger and dare I say....on my way to being less chubby!! For me, he hits the right balance of toughness and pushing me without being rude or disrespectful, but also being fun and easy to talk to!

He made sure to provide us with everything that we needed to know and was efficient in providing us with the training needed to get certified in CPR, comfortable using an AED, and helping someone who may be choking. His gym and fitness classes also looked legit and there was a community feel to his fitness center that you don't get at many locations.

I have been training with him for about six months now, and in that time I have found him to be a highly energetic and motivational trainer who is very thoughtful about the workouts he puts together. When I first came in for a fitness evaluation, I was pretty nervous because, frankly, I've never been very good at this fitness stuff. Fortunately, Leon was super welcoming and made me feel at ease, even when I had trouble completing my first workout (I barely made it past the warm up, not because it was a crazy workout or anything like that but because my body just wasn't used to much physical exertion). Leon very patiently helped me push through all that. In addition to personal training with Leon, I have also taken a few boxing classes with Coach Herb. Those classes are a lot of fun and I would also recommend them. I should add that Leon is a good guy who lives in the area and is invested in the local community. I live a few blocks away and am very happy to be able to support a local business.

It seems like the indoor pool is an Olympic sized pool and when aI got here they were doing some type of class there. There is also an indoor basketball court that I'm sure gets used a lot during the weekend. There was nobody in there this Thursday morning. The gym was disappointing however because there wasn't much to it at all. What I did like was the outdoor circular path which is about 2.5 times the length of an actual track. I would for sure make use of it if I lived a little closer. The baseball field also looked like it was in good condition. I was told that I need to sign up on their website in order to use the recreation center.

As soon as you enter, it's obvious it's a nice studio with a welcoming vibe--the class instructor checks you in, and there's free tea and animal crackers to take while you get settled in and hang up your coat. There's a free lending library in the lobby, too. They don't charge for using their mats and props which was a pleasant surprise. And the classes themselves are great! A well-rounded practice and not over-crowded with attendees. They have a wide variety of class options (yin, Hatha, kundalini, pre-natal) as well as multi-week workshops and events. They offer classes both in person and live online. For a little studio they have a lot to offer! It's not the cheapest yoga spot in DC, and there are only about 5 classes per day, but it's been a great experience so far. I'm glad I took the leap and got a membership (also because the first month is half off!)

For the last 10 years I have been studying my own psychology and using Cognitive Behavioral Therapies to overcome the narcissistic abuse from my childhood home. Although understanding my circumstances has helped me overcome a lot, the growth that I have come into since joining this studio does not compare. Over the last 3 months I have stopped coping with my pain with the use of Marijuana. Through the intentional movement, breath work, and meditation on a regular basis I am now able to see my own projections and even those of others which has allowed to engage with the relationships in my life differently, more productively. I have also stopped disassociating in intimacy something I did not realize I was doing from being a victim of sexual assault and rape. This place has taught me how to come back to my body and be present in my life without bringing my past back into my present. I cannot say enough of how eternally grateful I am for this place that has become a community of support and guidance. Thank you to all the instructors who brought light back into my life. Even my trajectory of my current career path is changing. Manju Sadarangani, Kate Judson, Jenna Tomasello, Jen Skillicorn, Ametisse Gover-Chamiou, Alicia McBride, Meredith McCullough, Colleen Brisport Sequeda, and of course Rebecca Henry only to name a few you have all taught me more about my alignment, my breathing, my mind more than you know. So, despite just recently switching to District Vet, I've had several cat experiences with them. In short, they are awesome. So convenient being at Eastern Market! I can walk home with kitty sitting in his magnificent, aging Sherpa. And when I left him for his dental, I had breakfast on the way home. They have excellent hours, and their front desk people are super nice. In fact, everyone in the practice is super nice! And speaking of nice, the majority of vets are women! Very cool, in my opinion. And the vets and their techs are also amazing. As noted, we took Grant Mitchell in for his (very late) annual dental. They actually called to ask if I could give Grant his post-surgery meds. I said, "Not unless the meds are liquid," (and that's debatable). Which of course they were pills, a no way. So they dosed him with something else and he's good as new. I really like District Vet.

It's a pandemic, I get it. But she stared for a few more beats from behind the glass, our faces a two feet apart, looked me up and down, and then reluctantly opened the door and said "YOU are looking for the hardware store. It's 'OVER THERE' ..... there's a *SIGN*" and in a passive aggressive tone that was really unnecessary gestured toward a big sign on the door that directed people looking for Ace Hardware to go nextdoor. I said "nope, I'm actually looking to learn about Pilates," but it was such a turn off that I turned and left. I assure you, lady, I can read the sign. And your judgments about who you think and perceive to be a potential customer was very disrespectful. It says a lot about the biases and prejudices you don't mask very well. Good luck!

We've been having a tough time cutting our shy puppy's nails. She's very timid and doesn't love her…read morenails trimmed, but we sent her to Patrick's and she was clearly treated well and with care and was so happy. She smelled great, had her nails trimmed and had the cutest bandana on! Great to have a spot in Brookland. A little pricey but knowing the staff is taking their time and being gentle with a shy pup is worth it! Will definitely be sending our little girl back!

My dog had such a great time here!…read more A little backstory. My Olde English bulldog had ACL and patella surgery almost four weeks ago. He isn't putting much weight on the leg yet and it still can be tender. PPC scheduled a google conference call with me ($5 to avoid no shows) to get details on what he needs during a groom. I spoke with Melissa and let her know my concerns about putting weight on and to stress that the groomer needs to be gentle with his leg. She assured me everything will go at my dog' pace and even let me check him in at the front door as stairs can be difficult still. I went ahead and booked the appointment, and am so happy I did. Drop off was very easy and convenient for me to drop off early morning and go back home to take meetings. I picked up my dog a few hours later. He was clean, smelled great and was so happy! I received his report card later that evening and was pleasantly surprised to see how detailed it was and that 4 wonderful people were involved with the grooming. Especially thankful for the time it took to sand his toes on his bum leg!! My dog had such a great time there he was worn out the rest of the day. I know he can't wait to go back! Thanks so much Patrick's pet care, Melissa, Jerniece, Mea and Andrew for the great experience! Burrito loved it there!! I can't say enough good things about our first experience at Patrick's Pet Care!
