Looking for a quality, unpretentious gym in the Petworth area? Look no further than the Fitness Factory. I was searching for weeks for a gym near my house that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money. I'm lazy, and refuse to drive to NoMa or Ivy City to workout. Appear: Fitness Factory. $39 per month for a membership. It has all the equipment I need, punching bags, and off street parking (which is rare in this city!). The manager is amazing and makes each client feel like they are a priority. Highly recommend the one on one training sessions as well!

Stop in at Fitness Factory front desk for your free health and fitness consultation. Thank you fitness Factory

Classes that always have a different workout to keep you on your toes. Fun and friendly regulars to get to know in classes and social events the gym puts on. I actually just moved, and one of the hardest parts was leaving this place! I'll be coming back from time to time. I also just completed a Nutrition Challenge with the gym's nutrition coach and a team of gym/community members, and it was a great experience. Michelle is an awesome coach. She's very encouraging, available with helpful tips and answers to any questions to get you through the day, and she is also kind and doesn't let you be too hard on yourself! The challenge group has kept me accountable, and I've had great results: I'm feeling better and I've lost weight.

The team is super easy going- I know I can go to them with any questions and they will happily help me out. They are supportive and fun to spend time with. I enjoy thinking of going to workout at the end of each day, which probably is not true for your average person going to a workout class. The team does a great job of individually onboarding new clients to help them get started. They explain the workouts well at the beginning of class, as to accommodate people of all experience levels. Otherwise, the space is great and is always clean and organized. I would highly recommend anyone in the area test out the gym.

I love this place!! I started going a few years ago. Everyone there, the staff and gym-goers, were…read moresuper friendly. The gym was like going to a night club. Down a long, narrow corridor, you enter a dark room with neon florescent paint. The dumbbells are neon, spaces on the floor are neon, paint on the wall is neon. The you notice the best playlists you can think of blasting in the background. This place works for me because I kinda hate working out but I do it out of discipline and for my health. The workouts here are fun and with the lights down low, I can move this jelly with no reservations. (not belly, jelly, you know the lose parts from the neck down? ) The environment is motivating and I see results from the workouts. However, I moved and since I had been missing this place but I always keep in touch with Coach G via stalking on IG because he's so sweet. Well Coronavirus hit. I was home. All gyms are closed. And I was thinking dang- how will I survive without any exercise?!? Boom! That's when I saw Coach G's post about "Sweat Anywhere. No Gym. No Problem." I quickly reached out, signed up (small monthly fee), and just like that I had access to live workouts with the same great trainers at the gym (shouts to Aaron, Sarah, Nazinga, & Stephen) and the lovely people who go there. 30min-40min classes of all kinds are available: HITT, boxing, strength, yoga, Barre, hip-hop step, etc. If I can't make the class live, no problem I have access to the video anytime. Instantly, I was hooked taking multiple classes per week and looking forward to actually seeing someone for a change. Fast forward a month on Sweat Anywhere and Coach G has added more items to this platform: guest trainers, doctors to answer questions, food discussions, happy hours, etc. This has become an all around health and wellness platform for me during this time. It's also given the me the chance to take classes I haven't tried before like Barre. I can take the fee classes from the nationwide companies but Coach G and his employees live in my community. I'd rather support this local business during this tough time. Besides the support they are giving me has exceeded what I expected when I signed up for access to classes. So looking forward to going back to their night club studio some day.

I signed up for the one week trial and had a great time! I was only able to attend four classes,…read morebut enjoyed each one. The instructors were really helpful and gave me some modification options. It would probably help to have some background knowledge of common lifts, but the instructors show the movements and they play on video screens if you need it. Everyone attending was generally in their own zone, so there isn't a lot of chatting because you really focus on getting the exercises done in the set times. I will say that the classes go by super quickly because you're always moving. Cons: The programming is set for the whole month. So each day of the week has its set program and you do that each week for the whole month. For me, this would get old (I really need variety). On the plus side, it does mean you get to see active gains throughout the month. The membership plan is a little pricey. I get why it costs so much, since they do have to cover rent and you only really attend during the class sessions. It isn't a type of gym where you just drop in when you want to use certain equipment. The unlimited monthly membership is $299, but in reality you are getting 30 or 31 classes depending on the month. Since the classes are the same all day, it is unlikely you would do two classes in a day, right? So the pricing is about $10/class if you do the unlimited monthly pass and you go every day. Some of the equipment was pretty smelly. I was at one station that honestly made me gag a little... I think the bench or maybe the dumbells had never been thoroughly cleaned with a bleach solution.

Fit360 is a great model of a community gym -- the staff is friendly, the owner is a local, and fellow gym goers are courteous. I am someone who benefits from classes to help me push myself and I especially love their lift classes, which are typically small (under 10 people) and mixed gender, with varying levels for each station based on your fitness and expertise. Jonathan and Nino both do a great job as instructors helping with form and technique. This year I also added in some personal training with Kwame and it has been fantastic so far. So glad this gym is part of my community.

I'm actually paying for a separate Nutritionist who I visit about every month. I started here about two months ago, and I've been much more committed this time around. It's even more motivational that the gym.is located literally across the street from my apartment. It's a decent gym and they have almost everything that I need, minus the abs machine. I do have the Gold membership and I think that it's a good fit for me since I rarely have ever participated in any type of gym class. They do offered the classes here, and I've seen a number of people leaving from a class. I appreciate that the gym is available for whenever I need it, and even more importantly that they're located so close to me.

It's not intuitive, not particularly close, and can feel annoying if you're already trying to squeeze in a quick workout. I've heard the NY ones are even better, so I'm excited to check them out the next time I visit New York! The Wisconsin one is the best one in the DMV area, in my opinion. It is brand new (about 6 months old) and offers free 2 hour validated garage parking. The DMV membership gym gives you access to multiple equinox gym, including the ones I go to: Tyson's corner (free all day parking), Wisconsin Ave (2 hour free parking), and Bethesda (paid parking). Benefits of Wisconsin Ave: - Brand New - Next to Wegmans (can grab a snack) and King Street Oyster (happy hour) - Free 2 hour parking - Large range of classes and timeframes - Great bench spot for people who WFH - Steam Room Downsides: - No pool - More limited personal trainers tiers (they're still hiring) - Only 2 hour parking (about one class + a shower could fit in this timeframe). - Traffic into DC can take awhile Why I decided to join Equinox in general: - Fantastic bathrooms - cleaned 3x/day with Kiehls products (some of the best skincare/hair stuff) - Provides measurements and fat-muscle ratios - Has Eucalyptus infused towels - Luxury aesthetic and feeling - Overall lifestyle Equinox is truly a lifestyle, not just a gym. You're surrounded by likeminded people!
