Best LA Fitness in the Portland and surrounding area. My regular location is The Pearl, and prior to that, Lloyd Center, so maybe it's a low bar! But seriously, this gym is so much cleaner, including the pool, showers and locker rooms. It's a much newer physicality and in a building they built, so it should be better. Came here when The Pearl pool was closed for repairs and I was really impressed. Loved the pool! It seems to be 25 meters whereas The Pearl is 25 yards, and it makes a difference. Lots of natural light coming in from the huge windows, which I love when I'm swimming. And it's not as crowded. I had the lane to myself for an hour while others came, swam, and left, sharing the other lanes. My only complain is the steps going into the pool are quite high. I'm currently using a cane as I'm dealing with hip issues, and it was challenging for me to take that first step in, and then to take that last step out. The other locations have half steps leading into the pool making it easier, and safer, for those who are handicapped or dealing with injuries to access the pool. The locker room is much larger, has several areas where you can sit on a bench and be out of the way So everyone is. It in top of each other. The showers were so much cleaner! And there is plenty of room on the counter for your stuff while you dry your hair and get ready afterwards. It took me about 20 minutes to get there, with no traffic, so it won't be my everyday gym since The Pearl is just 10 minutes away. But I'll definitely use this pool on days I have appointments out in Tualatin, which is often, or when I have extra time and want to enjoy a better swim. read more

Be warned if you sign a contract for a personal trainer. If you fracture your back and are unable to work out - EVER, they will NOT cancel your contract, even with documentation from your doctor. You have to "buy out" your contract, for the remaining time. They charge you 50% of whatever time is left. In other words, you get no benefit because you're injured, and they get hundreds of dollars for doing nothing. read more

So far I am frustrated. When I signed up last week no one showed me how to do anything. All this equipment is intimidating. I went in for my personal trainer to get me set up. They weren't able to be here and no one contacted me. So once again, I sit her while me partner works out. If they had let me know I would have brought a suit so I could at least swim. Should I sign up here? Short Answer: Yes, LA Fitness offers low-cost promotions for new members and can make the price even more affordable than it already is. And you get what you pay for. I would give it a 3 star an average rating. But I want to see this location succeed at a 4 star. Since I've been seeing and influx of new faces. I hope there's more growth. I love seeing new people. Atmosphere regarding customer service: The front desk is always engaging with a hello and a goodbye. And that's always nice. They respond to when maintenance is needed to machines as they do break down and that's normal. A fast response, as well. I will name drop Tracy. She was very kind to me asking for advice in what seemed to be a break for her and seems very open to customer engagement and overall, just a nice person. Trainers: Uncertain. Haven't trained with them. Classes: The people look happy :) And they're typically full to capacity. Basketball court: Is also pretty lively. Balls are worn. But they have a good firmness and grip to them. * Equipment: - I highly recommend investing in resistance bands. - Squat belts. It's a safety hazard not to, in my opinion. - New leather ankle straps for the cable machines. There's only one that I've seen, and it's pretty worn. Maybe a more modern nylon. But leather is okay. - Selling gym towels even in small quantities would be a nice promotion gift, as well. Or purchase. And may help with hygiene. Free advertisement if you put a logo on it. -Overall, I would revamp the calisthenics area a bit with some love. And the leg day experience. -The stretching mat upstairs needs some love too. No equipment just a mat that people rarely see or use. * Cleaning: - In the calisthenics area the yoga mats need a spray down every once in a while. The handles of the cable machines too. I had stickiness on my hand the other day from using them like a black goo from an old booger or something. Benches seem to be fine, and self-cleaned by the customers. -Cleaning lady does an excellent job on treadmills and other equipment that I've seen. And always a joy to see. -Male locker room: 3/4 paper towel dispensers were empty the other day. Soap dispensers in showers seem to be fine. Pool area: I never checked the bottom of it to see if there's much debris. I will say the hot tub has an odd smell to it. Maybe a drain and refill with chlorine treatment needs to happen or just different. As I see a lot of foam in there, so I assume it's clean. Just odd smell. I'm not a specialist on this matter. Haven't checked the bins for equipment. Area is clean. * Music: Highly recommend bringing headphones. No matter what they play it will be "upsetting" Or "lack luster" because it is diverse set of customers. Age being the widest diversity. Atmosphere: - The Lower floor plan feels very crowded like it's a lack of real estate downstairs. And this is where all the magic happens for Calisthenics / weightlifting / functional workouts. The Upper Floor plan: This is where all the cardio takes place. I find the bikes to be problematic as you have a room full of spin bikes for a class that might be only certain hours that aren't used. And then you have regular cycle bikes that are used 25%-50% of the time. And an oddly placed set of mats tucked away in the corner near the bikes for stretching that people don't really know about or use. And a stretching area downstairs that everyone uses. * Bodybuilder Thoughts: - Dumbbells go up to 100 pounds. No chalk, bands, chains, squat belts, etc. Excellent number of dumbbells though. - The floor plan is a little odd when it comes to equipment as the squat racks are far in the corner and crowded by dumbbell racks. and human traffic. And there are no platforms for deadlifts / power cleans / etc... It feels very crowded. Mentally this can be a negative. Having no platform has been the biggest concern for me. read more

This isn't a bad gym for the location and the price. Inside the same shopping center as Cabella's, you sometimes have to fight a crowd just to be able to reach the gym parking lot. One of the greatest downsides is just being able to wade your way through the shoppers to get to LA, since there's only one way in or out of this entire area. However, the gym is well worth it. It's affordable, with a good variety of machines and free weights, and an expansive cardio section that runs the entire second floor. There's a pool, personal training classes available, a stretching area to work on mobility, and a very nice and well kept locker room. If you need a gym and don't want to spend a fortune, this place is okay. You get what you pay for. There are no amenities here but for the price that is to be expected. The space is big but there isn't actually very much in this place. All of the cardio machines are upstairs and to be honest there are not many. It is also super hot upstairs. So I guess you'll sweat more but I found it uncomfortably warm. I was also disappointed in the lack of an area to do circuit training, which is my favorite. There is an area technically but it is roped off for people that pay for training. Also the locker rooms are eh. They had just mopped and the floor was soaking wet. It was actually pretty dangerous. I signed up online without visiting it first. I will continue my membership for the year, but I won't continue after that. read more

I was a member at this gym for a few months last year. I remember the membership starting fee was a bit expensive in my opinion. The gym was always really clean and not busy whenever I would go. I would typically go around 6 pm. I like that they have a pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. They have classes that come with your membership as well. They also have a daycare. The only thing I don't like is their hours. They close at 8 pm on the weekends. Also when I cancelled my membership it was a bit hard to do so. Only one dude (I believe it was the manager) could process the cancellation so I had to make sure to time it right and go when he was working. read more

I've only been once but so far it has been better the 24hr fitness or the courthouse by leaps and bounds. The ladies changing room is nicely lit, the lockers have a nice dark wood look, everything is clean, the showers are spacious, and the pool is great. I only used the pool but it is clean, the chemicals aren't too and, it's surrounded by windows which is a bit odd but brings in a lot of light. I wish there were 4 lanes but the 3 lanes weren't bad. The gentleman who helped me was very nice and when I find or his name I'll post it. It does seem like a high percent of beefy guys and girls who think more about their outfits then their workout but the place is nice. It's alright. No bumper plates, only 3 squat racks. Could forsure use more racks/power cages. Annoying waiting to squat when there are a million machines not in use, that occupy space. Most machines are run of the mill, nothing new, nothing I wouldn't see in a hotel gym. read more
