*Must Read* Review from a daily gym goer   Appearance - Clean Gym equipment - All equipment needed, good luck finding at times, scattered all over the gym, they need to enforce re-racking and/or have the staff assist in getting the equipment back to their proper location. Locker / Upkeep - Staff - Maintenance needs to be worked on. Often out of toilet paper. Sometimes flying little bugs in the shower stalls. Locker / Upkeep - Members - Etiquette - pretty good Members / Locker room behavior is okay - You always have some just walking around nude for too long. Gym equipment availability - Barbell's and dumbbells are left all over the gym like if children are at play. Good luck finding the weights that you are looking for. Overall: I decided to go to the other gym down the road at half the monthly cost. Too many don't understand gym etiquette (leave stuff all around/don't re-rack, hog (3) machines/stations at once (happens daily, while they play on the phone for an hour). They try to sign you up fast before you notice all the issues. I highly suggest you do a week free trial before signing up! If you mostly use the pool and/or need a place for your kids while you work out then, this may be the place for you, if not, then you should look elsewhere. So disappointing. read more

At approximately 6:33 pm today, after checking in a billboard caught my attention so I decided to walk back to see what it was about, when I walked back my BAG accidentally knocked it over so I gently put it back where it belonged. After that I thought I heard a guy laugh at me so I sped walk because I was embarrassed. An employee "Risa" if that's even her actual name, ran to me yelling at me aggressively and aggressively grabbed my shoulder pulling me towards her. I was confused at the fact that she laid her hands on me. I understand they might've saw the situation differently but she had no right to grab me like that and after I told management she put her hands on me she denied it. Staff was rude and unprofessional aside from the guy who scanned my ID he is always kind to me and my friends. Management didn't do anything to correct her or try to stop her from the continuous insults that she kept yelling at me. I am a non confrontational person so having someone grab you, yell at you and continue to throw insults at you while sticking up their middle finger an EMPLOYEE at that is scary. Not once did I raise my voice at her or any of the staff as I tried to explain the situation, nor did I insult anyone. I even asked management to pull up the footage from the cameras but he refused to stating he had "already spoke to her" (as she continued to interrupt the conversation between the manager and I). For someone who pays monthly to be able to work out at a gym in peace, you would think that the company would have a standard for the type of behavior they expect from their employees. An employee should never lay a finger on a paying customer, especially one who didn't even raise their voice at her and reacting like that over a billboard accidentally being knocked over and picked back up is concerning. I had a horrible experience with this LA fitness location. I'll admit at first they were great, they had flexible plans for a reasonable price which I appreciated. However this gym is not great for any one who actually lifts. The equipment is bad and due to my height some of it didn't even work for me, which is expected for a few machines, but not to the extent of this gym. There is no place to do exercises with a barbell besides bench and squat. There is only ONE squat rack in this gym that is adjustable, the other two, you cannot adjust the safeties which wouldn't work for the exercises I wanted to do. No deadlift platforms or bumper plates. Dumbbells are a mess even on the weekends when it's not crowded. For the cable machines they are little attachments available to choose. For these reasons, I chose to cancel my membership as I realized it be unsustainable for me to complete my workouts here. Trying to cancel this membership within the guidelines of my contract was a nightmare. I was well within my rights to cancel my membership within 3 days of registering. However when I tried to cancel my membership in person they said I can't do that unless I come back when the operations manager is there from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. For me and most people this does not work as we work those same hours. Additionally, in the contract it says nothing about contacting an operations manager. It explicitly states you can go to the gym you signed up for and cancel your membership. I had to ask for the operations manager phone number, which was just the phone number for the gym. I called the next morning during business hours and was told the operations manager was in the middle of something and when I said I was going to refer to the contract that says I can also cancel by calling, the person at the desk hung up on me. I called back and let them know that I would like the operations manager to call me when she was available and was told that they would tell her but she usually doesn't call customers. Luckily, I called back an hour later and a different person answered and I was able to speak to the operations manager and she canceled my membership in less than two minutes. I would not have been as upset if the people at the front desk did not LIE to me and would actually abide by the contract signed! A business cannot expect their customers to abide by a contract when they will not. Other reviews echo the same experience. I can not recommend this business to anyone and would suggest to go anywhere else for this reason. read more

My experience with the manager, Jackie, was very disappointing. The interaction felt disrespectful and unprofessional, and the way I was treated was far from what anyone would expect from a business providing customer service. I am beyond lucky to be able to take Marcia's classes. She is a gift from God. Truly amazing and talented. She very so graciously blesses us with incredible classes that bring pure joy into my life. I wake up thinking about Marcia's Zumba classes. If you want to challenge yourself , take her kickbox cardio class, she will show you that you can push yourself to places you never thought possible. The General Manager Kalu probably the most unprofessional person I ever had to deal with ever. I previously was considering signing up to La fitness in union and I wanted to pick out my decision when it came to there or other gyms and he basically came down my neck very rude and disrespectful about me joining the gym because I wasn't ready to sign up and he got very aggressive and angry with me about it. It put me in the most uncomfortable position to me not ever wanting to go to that location gym ever again I feel sorry for anybody else that's going through the same thing. The gyms membership is reasonably and its well equipped with everything you'll need for resistance training. They offer classes for all cardio and stamina needs. My only critiques the gym etiquette. Trainers need to develop a culture of returning dumbbells and barbells to their proper places. Also post signs requesting that members do not talk or surf social media while on the machines. Service is awful, cleaning is awful. Just left at 8:40 am Girl at counter says manager doesn't come in until 9 am and cleaning crew only comes in the morning SOMETIMES. So does that mean a gym with 100s of people goin in and out for the past 24 hours don't get the luxury of enjoying a hair ball free work out experience. 5 star for the personal training. It's a very tight knit group. There are diff trainers that works with you and even if you're not training with them and they see you're doing something wrong - they'll tell you. Which I 100 appreciate. I go to JB and Nerva. I suggest Nerva if you are newer and need a lot of attention. They do not train you for 25 minutes as the contract says. It's always always longer. Chris and Jarmaill are also wonderful with their clients. Chris is great for HIIT. If you are not sure who to go with ask the director John. He cares about results so any issues- discuss with him. They are very flexible but please don't disrespect their time. There's babysitting on site. It can be packed outside: but if personal training - can always use the private room. read more

Never be too fearful to say no to an overpriced gym membership coming from a "personal trainer" that doesn't want to take a simple no for an answer. I've been going to this gym (La fitness-Union) for two years and I've never had a problem until yesterday with staff. I decided to bring my family member to this facility in hopes of getting a classic gym membership for my family member and a good workout. Instead, one of the staff claiming to be a personal trainer (John Green) interrupted our workout, offered a 5 min session in which we did oblige but refused to continue for another 5 mins of his personal training due to his workout being too excessive in our opinion. My family member was never given a tour of the facility and was placed in an uncomfortable position to sign up for a classic membership and personal training in which she repeated several times to him (John Green) that the cost altogether was too expensive for her and that she'd be only willing to pay for the classic membership. John Green refused to take our no several times in which made the conversation turned into a 40 min argument of him trying to create a negative sales pitch about my family member "not being ready to see change", and constantly messing with the prices like a used car salesmen. He argued that a beginner like my family member would not be able to achieve their goals without personal training, in which we strongly disagreed; stayed with the classic membership only and proceeded to leave the gym. His conduct and condescending attitude with his present and future clientele is the reason why I'm writing this review as a warning to all new people to NOT sign up for personal training with him. DO NOT LET John Green DICTATE YOUR FITNESS GOALS OR PUSH AN EXPENSIVE MEMBERSHIP ON TO YOU. You have the right to simply say no. read more

The cleaning staff is good but the clients are the problem. Most people are good and decent but there are some people that work out in groups and they refuse to act civilized. Lots of yelling at the top of their lungs for no reason and silly antics. Males that act like children and even with your headphones at the highest volume you will get no peace. Management did respond when I complained but it happens every single friggin day. People want to work out in peace but a small but active sunset the patrons simply won't allow it and management does nothing. I can deal with the busy-ness but when groups of 20 to 30-year old males cannot work out and SFTU it's impossible to suffer it. Take control of the gym and it would be much better. read more

This gym is terrible. Now they are threatening to cancel my friend's membership. We are working out together that person is helping me get in shape, but for this gym, they do not allow anyone to workout together. This is not cool. I don't understand LA Fitness. I've been to so many gyms over the years and this is the only franchise I've been to that has the worst clientele across the board. They all take the weights wherever and never put them back where they are supposed to be. At $45/month I shouldn't have to be in the gym for 90 minutes plus to complete a 60 minute workout because I can't find dumbbells or I have to search through piles of weights to find what I'm looking for. You guys really need to enforce the policy of re-racking weights. There's no reason why every other gym in NJ is better at enforcing this than LA Fitness. I've been to Union, West Orange and North Brunswick. All the same. I'm about to go to the Clark location tonight but after looking at their yelp, I see I should expect the same. It's disgusting. It's so tough to get a machine in the LA Fitness on Sylvan Way... the only time I am able to get a machine is between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM. I went in one afternoon and thought I was in luck because I found a stairmaster. After I started exercising and was on the machine for 2 minutes, a muscle head comes over and says the machine was his and he had just stepped away to go to the bathroom... it's so hard to get any exercise machines - it seems everyone from instagram showed up to exercise. read more

Disappointed! All kettlebells, exercise balls, bosu balls, etc. are completely locked in the training room. Asked the front desk if i can just use it and put it back they said no that theres some on the floor. I walked around , no where to be found, even the weights in the aerobic room are locked. Everything they claim they have on the floor is locked. Especially when we were told everything is available to us. Asked another employee if we could just borrow the kettlebells and he said no thats extra and walked away. Its a new location and already some ellipticals you cant use because they wobble, dust everywhere, people in their underwear in the pool, the hand sanitizer are always empty, and the weights on the main floor are always missing. read more

Also, keep in mind you need the State wide membership to go to other locations which is more expensive. Otherwise, you have to pay $5.00 every time to work out at other locations. The gym aesthetics are good, big new place with new machines. The reason for the bad review is that this place gets overly crowded to the point you can't workout anytime after work, so I started to go really late at 9, when it's still crowded, but less than 5-9pm. Is not only that it's crowded and can't use machines or benches, but the dumbbells are never to be found, people just take them out of the racks and you never find a pair. Also the staff doesn't do a good job of putting them back in place more often. So yeah, gym is nice but try another gym less crowded, not to mention covid is still a thing read more

They laugh when you have concerns (don't think I didn't hear that if you're gonna laugh at someone make sure you stop laughing before you take them off hold. I just came here to cancel my membership upon gym re-opening at 25% capacity. During the cancelation process, I got some sass which was totally unnecessary. Just because a customer is leaving (right now) does not mean rudeness is ever okay, especially because I was not rude at all. I patiently waited in line, wore a mask, kept my distance, and said my pleases and thank yous. Also, want to point out that employees should be more strict with their mask wearing. The person checking people in, did not have her mask on correctly. Nose exposed, only mouth covered. Why bother with the mask then...if you're going to do it half wrong. It doesn't mean it's half the chance of spreading or getting it. If your company policy is going to ask patrons to wear a mask and take a bottle of cleaner for their own workout to prevent the spread of COVID, at least have staff members following the same rules. It is literally the easiest thing you can do. Sigh, I get we're all stressed out here but I mean being a little nice never killed no body. Had a bad experience with their trainers, they forced me to get the training sessions even though I told them multiple times that I couldn't afford it and then to cancel was a huge hassle because they only give you 3 days to cancel but they don't tell you that. So I got stuck with a 700 dollar bill no training and a bad experience, be careful signing up with the trainers. Once you sign on with the trainers you're just another check good luck. read more

I like this gym... having lived in NYC for over 20 years, I like the size of the gym and how spacious it is. The equipment I've used has been in really good condition and its clean for most part but extra cleaning could be done under the machines which is common for most gyms where the dust bunnies hide. I just signed up to this gym back in December, and I was super excited because it was a brand new facility. While I really enjoy this location, I was a little disappointed by the fact that they didn't include a sauna! The location in Clark has that. That would be the one thing in needs in order to hit 5 starts in my eyes. I love Greg and Aleesia for cycling classes at this location, and most if the Zumba instructors are also amazing. While they need a few improvements, they just opened up, so hopefully they'll make the changes in order to hit 5 stars. read more

All the employees are very nice except for one girl who seems to be working at night. Very poor service by a manager. My boyfriends phone and wallet were stolen and the manager on duty shrugged and said "well you can kiss them goodbye" and I said "shouldn't you be asking if we want to file a report?" And he said "yeah but it won't do anything." Then when the front desk operator was actually doing the report, this manager kept coming back and interrupting us because he wanted to make sure the guest he was trying to close a deal on, didn't leave the club. I would expect this type of behavior from a sales counselor or something from a cheaper gym. But in a place that claims to be a "health club" with "professionals" this place is a joke. What a disappointment! This LA Fitness has not been open for more than six months and already it has equipment that does not work, swimming pool that is not heated and operations team that leaves a filthy gym. Can you please provide examples LA Fitness will ask. 1. The elliptical are wobbly because the floor is uneven. 2. Dust and filth all over the place, it's unhygienic. 3. Customers wearing sweat suits jump into the pool without showering! Front desk and operations have only signs but NO CONTROLS to prevent or notify customers that this is unhygienic. Also they don't require customer to we swim shorts, so customer jump into the pool with their underwear! It's filthy and disgusting. Did a trial here, not only was their salesperson shady (tried to hide the slides with extra/hidden fees, pretended a "promo" rate would be the best deal... but it cost the most of every option when you add the monthly payments). On top of that this place was disorganized (weights everywhere, missing cable handles), and crowded to an extreme. Save your time and money, go just about anywhere else. Bad experience, once you are singing up for the first time they tell you everything you want to hear, when its your time to cancel, its a headache. We were instructed previously that if we were to terminate our membership that it would be easy to cancel that you can do it at any time. When we arrived to cancel the membership; they stated, you need to personally cancel by speaking to the owner in person, to add insult to injury she ONLY works 9-5 mon-Friday, its unprofessional when you think you can pull a schedule like that, we had to request an entire day off just to cancel, so be prepared when that time comes to lose income or lose a day from work.
