First time doing Pilates and I was very nervous. However, my mind was put as ease from entering the door and being greeted by Emily. She was very nice and introduced me to other clients as they arrived. It felt very warm and welcoming. She shared a lot with me before scheduling and that was impress. Most places just see clients and dollar signs. The Studio is diverse with various rooms where they do different things. The class I took was small and the instructor (Lauren) was knowledgeable and paid close attention to ensure everyone was doing the movements safely and getting the benefit expected out of each movement. I have severe lower back issues and I walked out of there feeling great! I look forward to my next session and think I've found an acceptable method to help me help myself naturally and keeps me off of the operating table for now. Thanks again MOXIE! There's no yoga or pilates studio in the area that even comes close to providing the TLC and personalization that Emily and her instructors provide. A year ago, I walked into Emily's studio--M Pilates and Yoga--with unbearable sciatic, low back, and burning compensatory pain across my glutes. No joke, at times, I felt like giving up. Today--a year later--I walked into the studio with some improper form that needed tweaking. Yoga at Moxie is a pleasant little escape I look forward treating myself to every week. I discovered this happy place when a friend invited me to join her at a yoga class in March 2014. Arriving as an anxious newbie, I feared I might be a little intimidated; however, I felt welcome and comfortable almost immediately. The small classes, camaraderie and personalized attention have kept me coming back regularly for more than two years. I especially like that Emily gets to know her students and their challenges and then cheerfully adapts the poses to each individual's needs without leaving anyone feeling inferior because they need a modification. The studio is super clean, with a serene, welcoming atmosphere. It's conveniently located, with free off-street parking. I highly recommend this hidden gem! read more

I love this place! Only place I know where people come out smiling, despite being put through the ringer. =) I think the layout (along with the helpful trainers) make it conducive to a friendly environment. I'm not a "yoga-guy", but their one-on-one training packages have helped me get back on track. And Moxie is so much more than just a gym or studio, it's an all-around wellness facility as Emily and her staff also offer nutrition and diet workshops throughout the year which have benefited me immensely. And I can't speak to the other ladies about this, but I've come here with multiple ailments from a bad back, a balky knee, to tennis elbow. Each time, Emily has picked up on something being off, whether my gait, my posture, etc... and will adjust on the fly so that i do not further aggravate an injury. Moxie is the best small studio around for Pilates and Yoga. Classes are intimate, so everyone gets the proper attention as it relates to good form and adjustments are made by teachers as needed to prevent injury or to increase results from the exercise. You really get the one on one in the group classes that you normally get in a private session. The studio has great energy and the instructors rock with classes, private sessions, and music! I love this place. I've been wanting to try Pilates for a long time and was always too chicken. I signed up for a small group class on the reformer and I can't fully express how great an experience it has been. As a true beginner, I didn't know what to expect. The instructor (Nicole) is very patient and helpful in getting me to use proper form. Tonight is my 4th week and I stand taller, my clothes are ever so slightly looser, and I just feel all around awesome. The studio owner (Emily) is great too. She let me try a yoga class FOR FREE!! I had been so intimidated to try yoga and now I just booked a 5 class package! Lots of (free) parking and very convenient location(near Kings Supermarket Garwood). read more

Ignorance isn't bliss ....I was battling anxiety and depression despite dropping 55 lbs and working out weekly with a personal trainer. I was referred to Emily by an acupuncturist . I scoffed and rolled my eyes and said there was no way I could get an effective workout with Yoga & Pilates and thought it was strictly a feminine discipline. Nonetheless, having nothing to lose, I eventually followed up on the acupuncturist's recommendation and reached out to Emily. Even after the initial complimentary evaluation and reluctantly committing to 5 sessions, I walked out of the studio still convinced that yoga & Pilates wasn't for me and was fairly certain that I wouldn't be returning afterwards. That was 2 years ago. Emily Miranda-Thompson is simply an amazing healer and holistic health coach. I've never felt better physically and emotionally and I've been told that I even look as good as I feel by a number of acquaintances. I can't imagine not ever having Emily and her staff in my life and am so grateful and massively appreciative for her tutelage. I'm signing up for more and for as long as Emily will continue to work with me. What was I thinking 2 years ago ?? Obviously I wasn't, at least not clearly. Thank you Emily. This review is long overdue. I moved from DC a few years back and had been doing private and small class reformer - when I got to NJ I couldn't find a studio near my house with the same focus and my shoulders and back definitely suffered. About a year ago I stumbled across Moxie and I love it! I feel healthier, was really getting leaner thanks to Colleen's class and it was a chance to balance myself out 2 hours a week. Then I got pregnant - Emily the owner was great - she put me in her prenatal class and Colleen modified for me - and I'm now 6 months and feeling great! I feel really strong and coming twice a week has made this pregnancy so much more comfortable than my last one. Emily has helped me keep my posture in check and keep the lower back pain to a minimum. The studio is not at all intimidating - it's small, clean and really welcoming and location is great. The instructors are personable and the classes fly by! They also offer nutrition and wellness programs which I'll definitely try post baby. read more
