I am pretty picky when it comes to yoga studios and I must tell you that Hot Yoga Revolution has become one of my favorite places to practice since moving back from California. Hot Yoga Revolution is a heated power yoga class rooted in the Baptiste style. They have two locations however I've only been to their Cranford one which is located right next to the train station. Things I love about HYR ... -Parking is super easy behind the building - Their practice room is heated to 95 degrees or so and the perfect temperature every time! - The lobby area and studio are always well kept and clean - They have a filtered water station - Flows have the same base of movements however each instructor adds they're own flare in to keep you guessing - CHIA is my favorite instructor, her classes are very thoughtful as well as her flows. My favorite type of yoga is hot yoga. I've been to many studios nearby and all over the country while traveling. I have yet to find a similar studio for hot yoga. I have been to both locations, Cranford and Metuchen. They're both equally the same. The functionality of the rooms' heat and humidity is precisely what many studios lack. If you're looking for good hot yoga, HYR is your place! a few other things.. The whole staff makes you feel comfortable and welcome whether you're a new or frequent member. The studio is without a doubt, always clean! Including all the equipment offered to members. Also, if you're not familiar with Cranford, it's an adorable walkable downtown with a train station. There is a parking lot behind the building along with street parking so you'll never have a problem trying to find a park before class. read more

My husband and I decided to try hot yoga together on weekends as a couple's thing. We found hot yoga revolution through Yelp. We took a beginner's class because he's a real beginner and I haven't taken a hot yoga class in a few years. The teacher was a sub, I believe. The class was HARD. Much harder than any beginner's class I've been in before. The teacher did not show the poses and the class was very fast. It ended with what was essentially a floor core workout (crunches, bicycles, scissoring legs). It was really hard, but I felt so good, if not a little (okay, a LOT) sore, afterward. My husband loved it too. Some constructive feedback: 1) A beginner's class should have someone showing the poses. It was clear that a few people had only taken one or two classes before, so they were looking around for guidance much of the class. There was also very little correction (e.g., I saw my husband doing downward dog in a way that made it hard for him to stay/rest in the pose - teacher should have corrected, even if not touching him). 2) Please do not say "Namaste" at the end of class. It literally means "hello". Imagine if I ended a workout with "Hello". It's odd and drives South Asians (like me) up the wall. 3) It's very bad form to have Buddha on the ground. Putting legs straight and pointing them at Buddha is considered very disrespectful in most Asian/South Asian cultures. I'd recommend elevating Buddha on a pedestal or putting the statue to the side where people will never point their feet at the statue. read more

When my fiancé was suffering through his anxiety and going through a rough patch we decided to try out hot yoga after some recommendations! The experience was super uplifting and surprisingly a GREAT workout! The hot room is definitely hot, but such a good experience mentally and physically. Ive been to their beginner classes and their regular vinyasa classes and they all make you feel at home. Definitely recommend this studio! I'm a recent convert to hot yoga, having practiced traditional yoga off and on for 5 years. I swore hot yoga was just a fad, but then I tried it and now I'm hooked. I'm not a spiritual person, and practice yoga mainly to supplement my fitness regimen. However, I find that it also helps me de-stress in ways that is not often achieved by a high-intensity run or workout. The heat really challenges me to find my center in difficult poses, which has helped me better regulate my breathing on my most difficult runs, and push through painful reps at the gym when my muscles are already aching. There are so many benefits to hot yoga that I can't recommend it enough. Now, Hot Yoga Revolution is the first hot yoga studio I've been to, and has set the bar really high for other hot yoga studios out there! It is clean and calming. The location is convenient for those who work in the city and hoping to squeeze in a yoga session after work (they often have 6:30pm & 7:45pm classes). They also have very early morning classes at 5:30am or so, for early birds out there, but that is just way too early for me! The instructors are amazing. I've had classes with 3 different instructors so far, and while they each have distinct styles, they are all friendly and welcoming. In the past, I've gravitated to only one traditional yoga instructor at various studios, which can make scheduling classes a hassle. Here, however, I don't have to be so selective - everyone is great! Overall, I'd highly recommend HYR, both to people new to hot yoga and to seasoned hot yogis :) read more

I've been practicing at Hot Yoga Revolution since April. I couldn't be happier with my transition from the city to suburbs with this studio. There are a wide variety of classes both vinyasa & boot camps and a schedule that fits a working person's needs with early morning and multiple evening classes. The classes are challenging and the instructors are engaging and I'm happy to have a great facility like to to expand my yoga practice. I would recommend attending a class with Sara, Cheryl, or Dominic! If you're an early bird, the 5:45AM classes are a great way to start the day. Kelly, Lauren & Elizabeth are amazing! When they say HOT they mean it. The studio gets pretty heated; what seems like a little more than other hot studios. I used to use just The Mat from Lululemon and the non-slip hot mat worked great, but I would definitely recommend bringing a mat towel to this studio as well as a sweat towel and a lot of water. I would love to do more of the boot camp classes but I find it a little hard to get motivated in such a heated room, a 'warm' class is OK but 'hot' for a high intensity class is definitely a challenge. read more

I have been practicing at Hot Yoga Revolution for almost 4 years. I came in with very limited yoga experience, and zero hot yoga experience. I also came in with back pain, an arthritic knee that flared a lot & very tight muscles throughout my body. The staff at HYR took the time during class to adjust my poses if they were incorrect also explaining to me why they were were wrong and what potentially could happen to my body. They teach a very intense class, but at the same time I never felt rushed in my poses. This is a "check your ego at the door" studio. The owner and proprietor Danielle takes complete ownership of all her clients and instructors. She has a very solid respect for her community inside and outside her studio. She is an active listener and even more so appreciates feedback on all aspects of her studio. The instructors she hires are first rate. They all bring something unique to their classes and are true pros that love their craft. HYR also offers a lot of classes which work well for people with busy schedules. I take a mix of 5:45AM and 9:30AM classes which works out well for me as I am an off-peak commuter to Manhattan with kids that need to get to school. On the weekends I can sleep in because there are later morning classes and a 4 o'clock class Sat and Sun. Also, there is no such thing as a cancelled class due to an instructor that can't make it. There is always a first rate sub. The only reason classes are cancelled is because of VERY inclement weather. Beginner through well seasoned Yogis that enjoy the heat need not search for a studio any longer. 4 years later my body, mind and soul are in a much better place. read more

Recently took a hot Vinyasa class for all levels. As an intermediate yogi, I KID YOU NOT it can get pretty intense in there. Totally not in the wrong way though, I loved how difficult the class was but I was still able to go at my pace and was still able to learn along the way. There is also an assistant that walks around that helps you sit into positions more and helps you with certain poses that you struggle on. It's in a bright room, with calming music and plenty of space. Everyone came in with different skill levels and nobody judged one another. We all moved as a group and also laughed through the more difficult poses. It's a very hot and very intense class but I assure you it's worth it. All the instructors are great and very supportive. If you want to change your mind body connection, this is the place to go! Parking can be an issue, so try and come early. As for classes you can just drop in and pay or pay online and drop into any classes! There's usually always space since it's a large studio. read more

People of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds- no Lululemon cult here. I took Dominic's class- he was encouraging, had a good sense of humor, and focused on alignment. So I couldn't post this earlier today because honestly, I was living it. Today I attended a workshop for mommy and me yoga with my six year old daughter. The class was full of moms craving a fun and relaxing outlet with their kids. That is exactly what we got. We made lavender eye pillows and played yoga games. We did partner poses and ended the day with delicious smoothies. It was an amazing and special experience. We live about 45 minutes away but this workshop was worth the drive because Miss Sandy put so much into making the day about us moms and our little ones. There were moments of fun for everyone and little moments I was able to share with my daughter that I will cherish. If there is ever another chance for this workshop or anything like it, let us know because we are in!! read more

I have practiced yoga for almost ten years. From Bikram to Hot Vinyasa Flow to Traditional and Ashtanga. This studio is new to me and already has me hooked. The studio location is unique and works very well for the community. The staff are friendly and welcoming and quickly tries to learn your name. The studio itself is immaculate and very well designed. It has a calming decor and the place is disinfected after every class as you know is vitally important for a hot yoga studio. The yoga props are accessible and kept in great order. The studio set up is great with the lights and the tile floor projects hear upwards which makes the place even warmer. The colors of the studio are also very zen like and makes you want to return. Shower area is clean and well organized. Honest detractors: The studio could utilize a bench or a place to sit down in the changing area. Not too many seats just a few more so people dot struggle. The studio teaching style is excellent, challenging and playful. But adding an extra 10 to 15 minutes per class period would allow for deeper practicing of asanas. I like less not more with deep holds and exact instruction in the heat. An extra 10 minutes would hit the spot. Other than that I cant think of any other areas of constructive advice. I have been going to HYR since the beginning of this year. I was previously going to a Bikram Yoga class in Palisades Park but it was entirely too far from my home. Let me say HYR is absolutely fabulous. This is not Bikram Yoga, they do similar movements but its done in 60 minutes not 90 and depending on the instructor for the class the poses can vary. I actually prefer the HYR style which allows for flexibility and as well 60 minutes which is much more manageable than 90 minutes at 105 degrees heat. I have taken a number of different instructors but my faves are Kelly, Maya, Cheryl and Kristine. The studio is always clean and there is a diverse crowd which is always a plus in my book. I'm sad that I have relocated from the area and will have to find a new hot yoga studio but I felt compelled to share this testimony. read more

It's so important to diversify your workouts and along with going to the gym, I love doing yoga! Hot yoga specifically is amazing because you detoxify and stretch. I love the classes at hot yoga revolution! They're located on the second floor and have a nice spacious studio. It has bathrooms/showers and a locker area. The thing I love about HYR is their variety of classes on the schedule. They have classes at many different times so it makes it very easy to attend a class. If you're a student, you can get a discount on the classes and packages. Definitely try to go to a boot camp class because those are killer. There's parking behind the studio but, sometimes it's full so park on the street. Make sure you get to class a little early! Bring your own mat but, you can rent it from them too. read more

I recently found this studio in downtown Cranford and am so happy I did. I'll admit, I was a little skeptical at first, walking through what looks like an office building to get to the second floor studio. But once inside my opinion changed immediately. The studio is absolutely beautiful and everything looks brand new. The space, the teachers and the students are all warm, friendly and inviting. I especially love the floors in the heated studio!! My first class was Jessie's on Wednesday night, her sequence was intelligent and left me feeling relaxed and energized. She gave great cues, and challenged me to think about the poses I've done thousands of times before in a new way. I also loved Joshua's Hot Yin Yoga class. You know you're in for a treat when the instructor walks in to class with a guitar. I left class feeling like I had experienced something really special, not just going through the motions to get to savasana. A very decent place. I have practiced in a lot of places and HYR is definitely up there. Its a small studio so it can get cramped once in a while but the benefit of that is I really learned how to do some of the tough poses at HYR. Danielle is an outstanding teacher who can really point out where you need to improve and how you can do your asana better.
