his place was so good we ended up going twice during our vacation in Barcelona--and that says a lot. Every dish we tried was incredible. We ordered a variety of authentic options, including cod, pan con tomate, pulpo, olives and cheese, and a fantastic white wine (Albariño). The standout for me was the crema Catalana--their take on crème brûlée--which was easily the best I had in the city. Beyond the food, the atmosphere really made the experience even better. The music was at a perfect low volume, so we could actually enjoy our conversation without shouting over noise. The service was just as impressive--our waitress was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful when it came to choosing entrees and accommodating my daughter's gluten allergy. My first dinner and meal in Barcelona were at El Viti. There are a ton of different options on the menu and they do have an English menu you just have to ask for one. Plenty of alcoholic drinks but I wasn't feeling like drinking tonight. I did enjoy our tapas my favorite was the tomato bread and also the octopus! They also have this Russian potato salad as well that was tasty. The place is busy and the food comes whenever each dish is ready so it isn't all at the same time. For me, I like this because you get to also chat and just chill for a bit while waiting for your next dish. It seemed like a great environment and I would recommend it to people that want to check it out for dinner time. You will be happy and satisfied! read more

really a phenomenal joint, did not have a less than stellar meal here, lunch or dinner. we went back multiple times. Lots of locals who obviously know what they've stumbled onto, much quieter than the overly touristy places nearby. Close to Gaudi if you're paying a visit. read more

This place is a rip off. This is their calamari bao: 3 rings of chewy fried calamari and one leaf of rotten lettuce for 5.50 euros. Really? Never again. Very small, overpriced portions would have been OK if you had high quality food, but totally not OK if you put fast food ingredients. read more

We were guided to this neighborhood restaurant by our apartment owner during a recent visit to Barcelona. We were extremely impressed with the food quality and flavor. The grilled octopus was the best we've ever tasted, and it's a very generously sized tentacle. You have to make reservations because it's a very popular place. Very unique tapas and food with excellent service and cool setting. Found this place trying to escape from the touristy area of La Sagrada Familia. Saw the place with a lot of people eating outside and decided to go for it. Based on the recommendations of the waiter we got the torreznos de Soria (fried pork), banderillas de la casa and Gilda vasca (skewers with olives, cheese and peppers), patatas al remolino, coca de cristal con tomate (fancy pan con tomate) and the pulpo a ls brasas (big highlight). We closed with a nice take of crema catalana (espuma catalana) which was perfect. Their cortado was good too as well as the sangria. Very nice dinner. read more

This is probably a 3.5, just because I was frustrated by the service, which really wasn't up to the standard of the excellent food (food alone, more like 5 stars). I sat at the bar and I asked 3 questions. How is this tuna dish prepared? What does de rabo mean? And what is the mustard ice cream like? That's it. I'm fluent in Spanish, have lived in a Spanish-speaking country, have taught some Spanish, so that wasn't it. The answers were given in English, mostly, just because of my appearance, I guess. Anyway, de rabo I was told, meant "carne/meat." And I said that's it? It just means meat? Turns out it means tail, as in oxtail. I just ended up going to the translator then and there. It's one thing if you don't know the answer, but there seemed like some seriously low effort and dismissive stuff going on. Ok, thanks. That's very helpful as I try to decide what to eat and what to spend my money on. Meat. Appreciate it. Likewise with the tuna dish. At least the dude was nice. De rabo girl wasn't friendly. So the tuna was prepared "cold." That's it, man? Cold? That $15 plate is just a cold plate of tuna? What, sashimi style? It turns out that after I pressed him on it a bit, just kind of incredulous, he went back and got the full story. Lots of other ingredients involved, not just a plate of cold tuna. (And if you're wondering, the menu didn't elaborate, not the English one that was given to me, anyway; didn't check the Spanish one). And the mustard ice cream? God, that girl was annoying. I should've known better than to ask. Dude, i was told, it's mustard ice cream. Maybe some of you are wondering what I was expecting for an answer...but maybe it was just the tone. And need tartare with mustard ice cream? Never had/seen that one, so what's the story there, right? At least another waitress, far friendlier, interjected and elaborated a bit, saying that she had tried it and wasn't a fan. The food was outstanding. It really was. But this one girl in particular was so useless and unfriendly, and then people were crowding my spot at the bar with dirty dishes, too, which was kind of lame. I have no doubt that I would've rated it five stars on another night, but not on this one. People like food. People are curious about the things that they might order. Tighten up. read more
