I gave San Jose another shot. Maybe steak is not its forte. So I decided to try the chicken tacos. They were delicious. I had two tacos that was approximately one chicken breast. It has shredded lettuce with cheese. Write a salsa to the tacos and ate one like that. The other I opted to take the contents out and use the complementary chips to dip the chicken. It was better that way. The service was fine. My only complaint is they really do not come check on you until they feel it is time for you to pay. So try to remember to get everything you want out of them when they are taking your order or delivering your food or you might not get what you want. The ambience was fine. Even when it's crowded, the way the booths are designed you can't tell how many people are really in the restaurant. The noise level is very minimum and it's easy to carry on a conversation. read more

We tried it a few times when we first moved here. It just never really knocked our socks off. The food was okay, nobody loved it. The service was pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant and they have plenty of seating. If you don't feel like making the drive to lexington this is a decent spot. Its decor definitely gives that classic Mexican restaurant vibe. read more

They have a few location thru out the area, my favorite is in Lexington, very small in publics parking lot. The service and food is always on point and good. If you are craving mexican food while you are in town, you won't go wrong here! Drinks are good and reasonable priced. Ive never had a bad meal from any of the, I jus prefer Lexington's cook. I was so shocked to see some of the other reviews. This place is very close to our home so we have been eating here for years. Now that we have two under two, we love this place even more because of how fast the service is and the food is very inexpensive but delish! The drinks are always spot on as well. I've never been disappointed with anything I've gotten here, but today I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and they were on point. May not be truly "authentic" mexican food, but it is a great place for our family to get quick bite. read more

Peach margarita on the rocks is the best here. Enchilada sauce is disgusting and a brown color. Service is okay. Cheap kids meals. My kids love coming here, I love their peach margarita, and the chicken, onion, peppers covered with queso dip. Shrimp fajitas aren't too bad and we're my go to during lent on Fridays. Other than that there's nothing that fantastic on the menu. The only reason I've been here quite a few times is because it's literally 3 min from my home. read more

No...no....no. I absolutely LOVE authentic Mexican food & this spot was super disappointing. I had the chicken chimichanga & a strawberry margarita. The chicken was soft, mushy, & tasteless :( they said it would be bake or fried....it was neither. It seemed to be browned on both sides in a skillet or on the grill . Sat outside on the patio due to the super nice weather. Had to start with the cheese dip. If was good, pretty similar to other Mexican places. Ordered 2 quesadillas off the al a carte menu. First one was mushroom and it was really good! Full of yummy mushrooms and cheese. Second one was chorizo. Wow! It was overflowing with delicious chorizo and melty cheese. It was amazing. The food here is consistently excellent, however the service at this location is just as consistently lax. They're friendly, but I often end up spending 15 minutes waiting on someone to pay attention to get a drink order. I'm generally really understanding about service because I know it's a demanding job. I really would suggest just going to the location near the hobby lobby and bi-lo on highway 1 up a mile or so in West Columbia. read more

I was an out of towner visiting my cousin and we ended up here since it was close by. It was a good family restaurant. When walking in, you definitely don't feel cramped because their waiting area is very spacious. That was something that I really liked because a lot of restaurants' waiting areas are so cramped. The environment overall after being seated was good. You could tell that many families dine in here. I must say that I was not a fan of their booth seats. As soon as I sat down, it felt as if my butt was touching the wood holding the seat up. I think that they need to add some more cushioning within their booth seats. The service here was all right. I felt like they were not greet us at a timely manner as my party and I were waiting for a while until they finally greeted us. I understand that restaurants be busy, but at least acknowledge customers with simple eye contact and a smile. It's quick and easy. I thought the food here was really good. They bring you chips and salsa...pretty standard. But just FYI, don't be bashful to ask for the spicy salsa. I did not know that was an option, but I'm glad I found out it was. Just be sure to have a glass of water with you because I needed it! They do not lie about it being spicy. All the food that my party ordered was delicious. The salsa was bland and tasted like tomato paste. The chips were stale when set down at the tables. I ordered a sangria since I had a big lunch. Everyone got their food after a long wait, then even later I got my drink. The service was so slow. Even worse I wasn't carded when I asked for a drink. I think they should always ask. I like this San Jose but to be honest I do feel a little sketched out ever since all the crime that surrounded the owner over the last few years. My family used to love this place. We would eat here at least one night a week. The last few times the service was slack. Also I noticed the portions started getting smaller. If I could give less than one star, I would. The salsa had no flavor, our margarita pitcher tasted like straight juice with no liquor, and half my nachos were cold. My friend sent her carne asada tacos back and asked for a menu to order something else, and the manager/owner came to the table quite aggressively after she had already told the waitress she didn't like the flavor of them and wanted to order something else. He asked what was wrong with them, that he's been serving them all day and had no issues, and he tasted them himself and they were fine. She again explained she didn't like the taste, as the meat tasted like it had been sitting out. His aggressive manner and tone with us was more than disrespectful and unnecessary. San Jose is pretty close to our house so we come here often. There are some good options to choose from, food wise. I usually order number 31 which is a beef taco, beef burrito and a beef tostada. If you don't know what a tostada is, it's like a round chip with beef and cheese on it. They have affordable food and great service. I've started to order in Spanish and they are really good sports and correct me if I mess up. They are very nice people. The food always comes out in under 10 minutes. Visited on a Saturday night Was not too busy and got seated right away and greeted right away. After that it just went downhill. The fajitas I ordered were not sizzling and for that matter were luke warm. Did not receive refills on drinks. No check back on the food. The staff were more interested in chatting with a friend/customer and were seated at his table. I spoke to someone as I as leaving and asked if he was a manager which he said he was. Perfect... If you love dog food. This has to be the most disgusting Mexican food I've ever tasted. We ordered the beef enchiladas and chicken tacos to go. Both were horrible. And how do you mess up tortilla chips as a Mexican restaurant??? To add insult to injury, Alejandro charged us an extra $0.75 for ordering something that "wasn't on the menu." Everything we ordered was definitely on the menu. I witnessed his rudeness both to us and to other customers. My husband and I each choked down one enchilada/taco and threw the rest away. Total waste of money. And we have eaten at some pretty divey places before. Don't waste your time or money here. Ugh... now to get that flavor out of my mouth. read more
