I LOVE LOVE the posole here!! I can say I'm a regular. it's very flavorful authentic and well served. The salsa is also my favorite here, it's spicy and flavorful but addicting once you start you can't stop. The only thing I don't like now is that they are charging for chips and salsa which in my opinion should be complementary. read more

I was craving their delicious, unforgettable sopes. As soon as we walked in, the lady greeted us. She said we could sit anywhere and she was so friendly to all of us, including my baby. The food was scrumptious. My mom loved her Caldo de Res. Her caldo came with a side of rice and hand made tortillas. My enchilada plate was so delicious. My daughter ordered an OJ and it's so fresh. They make it right then and there. It's so calm inside- just the server, the customers, and the person cooking. They have plants inside and a vase of sunflowers. In addition, they have a bathroom for customers only. Of course, the only downside is parking. Park on the street or behind the building but, you'll be lucky if you can find any because there's only a few spaces in the back. It was Valentine's Day and it been for long times we didn't eat out because 99% foods in Santa Cruz are " garbage ". We both craving Mexican food and decided drive down to Watsonville to have it. Search on Yelp and base on review from customer, I like to try La Fogata, and I am glad i did. Just likes a lot of restaurants , basic , nothing fancy, but I can feel I will have a good lunch. 11am inside ready fill up with local customers, we are an only White and Asian , rest of them Latinos and Latinas. My partner joked we are in Mexico City ? 40 years in Santa Cruz , this is a best of Mexican food I never have. And surprised me the chef is mother of owner. This is all about for the cooking, authentic, passion, and the heart. For sure the chef didn't go cooking's school, but she knows how to make a wonderful meals.BRAVO to the chef. read more

I discovered La Fogata in an interesting way. My dad's truck broke down when picking me up from the dentist when I was 13. My grandma owned an answering service and dispatched a tow truck to come get us from Aptos. The driver knew my grandma really well. He stopped here at La Fogata (which I later learned his family owned) and grabbed me the most delicious Albondigas Soup I have ever ever ever had!! I still dream about the soup to this day and I'm 22! No idea if his family still owns it, but we've been going back ever since! If you like spice I definitely recommend getting the Camarones a La Diabla! My personal favorite is the Super Burritos and the Pozole. read more

My boyfriend and I just stopped by for a bean and cheese burrito and an Al pastor burrito. We finished eating them in the car and both agreed this was the best food we had on our road trip up north so far! Amazing food for the price, so flavorful, piping hot and fresh. Yummy!! I ordered the chicken flautas, delicious and very crispy. My boyfriend ordered the Chile Colorado and was very happy with his meal, although next time I think we'll both get the chicken flautas since they were that yummy! Their orchata was delicious and their salsa was spicy and tasty! The corn tortillas here are also made in house, so make sure to choose corn over flour! Extremely pleased with the service and the flavor. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. This place is a hole in the wall but I'm glad we found it, and next time I am in the Watsonville area I am certainly stopping by. read more

I've seen this place for 20 years and never stopped there. Well my lunch partner and I have tried almost every restaurant in Watsonville so it was time to stop here since we were in the area. Inside is much bigger and cleaner than I expected. The service was wonderful. The food was good. My latest food to compare is camarones ala diablo. It came with the mandatory salad, refried beans and rice. The beans could have been a little warmer and thicker and I could have used more rice since I had the sauce from the shrimp. The shrimp were a little over-cooked, the sauce was decent but you really need to be sure to get some onion in each bite to be sure the sauce is not one-dimensional. My lunch partner said her meal was fine. I'd go back but it took me 20 years to get there the first time, the second will be sooner. read more

Definitely a "hole in wall" feel, which I like. They have a diverse selection of all your favorite Mexican dishes. The tortillas are home made an DELICIOUS! Staff was friendly, mostly Spanish speaking, but no communication issues. I kept it safe for the first try, combo of cheese enchiladas and a shredded beef taco. Their enchilada sauce is amazing. The refried beans had that smooth texture you only get from home made. I was a bit jealous of my coworker's Chile Colorado, it looked amazing, she loved it. Ok I will say one thing for having amazing rates in Yelp this place behind McDonald's has the worse customer service ever. First of all, you seriously have to be a male to get the attention of the servers. They don't say hi, or welcome, and when you go to the register they see you but ignore you. They take your order after 15-20 min she leaves put the tag in the kitchen doesn't say ok thank you, take a seat, or stand on the side, nothing. After waiting 35 min to get 2 menudos to go she says, here you go thank you. But she never charged me so I was like For Real. This Place is unprofessional, CDC guidelines aren't being met, and customer service is horrible. I wish I can put 0 stars but I can't. This happened Sunday Nov 14,2020. Place is a definite hole in the wall but the food is always on point. My favorite is their sopes, they aren't the thick flat tiny tortilla like but super thin and crispy. The service depends on who's working but I've never had a bad experience just slow at times. I'd recommend this place for the delicious and consistent homemade deliciousness! read more

La Fogata is the best Mexican food in Watsonville, it's filling and affordable. Chavelas are very well made, the shrimp with chile on the rim is awesome! Today I ate a mojarra which was very crispy and the rice and beans with chips on the side, I couldn't stop eating. My son who's in high school takes advantage of the lunch deals for high school kids during lunch a torta and an Arizona for 5$ or hamburger and Arizona for 5$! Visited on the recommendation of a friend, food was really good, better than average. The area was okay, not the best area, next to a McDonald's, a laundromat, and the Police department.
