Nice place. There's a patio area, so our pup was able to hang out with us. Have patience, because it's small, so there's not a big staff. They were super friendly, so it's nice. Then soups were huge and loaded with meat. Chile relleno was loaded with melty cheese. Looks like a house, so keep your eyes open. read more

On our way up the coast, we stopped at Olivia's Café & Restaurant.  I ordered the chilaquiles, and my husband ordered the machaca.  Their corn tortillas are homemade and delicious!  Their salsa is also very good.  I loved my chilaquiles.  They are definitely in my top three all-time favorite chilaquiles.  It was a delicious breakfast!  Make sure to stop here if you are in the area! read more

Ok first of all what happened to servers hospitality?? We never once got asked if everything was ok and if we needed more drinks or not I had to myself get out of my chair and go ask them for what I needed. The false advertising on popular also is very disappointing specially when your craving an actual popusa this place does not sell popusas those are two tortillas forced to stay together might as well call them corn quesadillas with meat!! I have uploaded pictures on what the popusas look like where you can clearly see the tortillas being pressed on the sides for them to stay together to look like a popusa. Can't believe I have never tried this place before! Went here for dinner on a Saturday night, and was pleasantly surprised. It was empty when we arrived, and the staff were all in the back. Initially, it was hard to get their attention, but the service was very good after that. Very attentive and helpful! We were greeted with chips and salsa, the salsa was spicy but it was good. For food, we ordered their chile relleno and camarones al mojo de ajo. Both came with rice, beans, and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. We got corn and flour tortillas which were handmade. Service was slow even though there were only a couple of customers. Lengua taco was plain with a gamey taste. Menudo was like eating beef tripe soup, always thought hominy was part of menudo not an extra. My wife got carne asada and only ate half. 2nd time we went to this restaurant. First time, food was very good. This time we decided to go back for Mother's Day. Maybe waited ten minutes for a table. But that's where the good story ends. We got our drinks, chips and salsa...and that's all we ever got after over one and a half hours of waiting. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks or chips while we waited. We finally decided to pay for just the drinks and go find another restaurant. I'm sure the food would have been good if we ever got it. They said they had a lot of take out orders but it seems they prioritize filling take out before dine in customers so heads up. Maybe do take out instead of dining in. read more

Caldo de pollo (chicken soup) is what I needed to treat a bad cold, and Olivia's may have the best in the area. Served by a beautiful and charming young lady who might be the owner's daughter, the soup came loaded with two huge chicken legs and fresh vegetables. Quaint little Cafe in a house adorned with old family photos and decor. Several tables nicely spaced apart indoors, a single table on the front balcony, and nice patio out front (but it was closed today when we visited). Came here for Saturday brunch and ordered... * Machaca -- Shredded beef scramble served with Spanish rice, beans and fresh homemade corn (or flour) tortillas. It was decent. * Mole de Pollo (Chicken mole) -- A leg and other chunks of chicken in a well balanced mole sauce. Also served with sides of Spanish rice, beans and fresh homemade corn (or flour) tortillas They did not have black beans (which we prefer), but you can get the pinto beans refried or whole. Our server did note that they do not use pork lard in their bean preparations. The best part of our meal had to be the steaming hot fresh corn tortillas... so good! They also bring out complimentary fried tortilla chips and a hot red salsa. Service was friendly and attentive, and this place has a really nice homey ambiance. read more

We had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant. We ate out on the quaint porch and were helped by the original owner's granddaughter. My husband ordered the Molé and started crying. It tasted EXACTLY like the Molé his mother used to make, and she passed away years ago. The granddaughter brought her mother or grandmother out to speak with him when he was inquiring about what part of Mexico she learned to cook this, as we don't know where this recipe comes from, nor do we have it written down anywhere in the family. They were such a sweet family with amazing culinary skills and great service. We will be back soon, as we don't live in town. But we might have to make a special trip! read more

If not for the July 4th holiday and most places being closed we never would haves stumbled upon this gem of a Mexican restaurant. It was a bit of a drive but totally worth it. The place is a converted old house so it was really cool looking inside. Small and quant. The menu didn't have all of the endless combos and fajitas, just two pages of authentic goodness. The salsa was spicy and flavorful and the chips fresh and crispy. And the food! We had a delicious selection of burrito, tacos, and enchiladas (and fish for our non-meat eater). They were all scrumptious, generous, and memorable. Great, understated service was the cherry on top. Just a fantastic experience all around! read more

We asked a brother and sister team at the coffee shop on 152 what they would recommend for a great lunch place. The synchronous answer was Olivia's. The brother said the food was authentic Mexican yet not heavy and the sister said the ambience was very sweet because the restaurant was in a private house! We shot over in four minutes from 152 and we were greeted by Angélica. Very upbeat & bright smile ends up she is Olivia's daughter! Angelica is the inspiration to move mom's restaurant from the Salinas area up to Watsonville in this really quaint building a few years ago. My wife is more of the Mexican food lover and I just go along for the ride so to speak. My wife had enchiladas and salad which she said was amazing. When Angelica said that the choice with my chili Verde was either flour tortillas which are not made on the premises OR corn tortillas which are made on the premises, although I prefer flour tortillas and have a dislike for corn tortillas - the fact that they make them there caught my attention. Restaurant made tortillas reminded me of my being in San Diego (Old town specifically) where the corn tortillas are made right on street side in front of a number of restaurants. Olivias supplies an abundance of corn tortillas which were out of this world! So tasty so fresh so unexpectedly fluffy!! Olivia herself deliver the food to our table. She is a very soft-spoken sweet person how are you could tell takes pride in her ownership. Wonderful surprise gem today and being referred to Olivia's. Looking forward to returning the very next time we are in Watsonville. Strongly recommend this place for anyone who either loves Mexican food or is on the border of liking it - border of liking people would probably be converted to loving it for sure.
