Their food is authentic and delicious! Only down side is don't go eat there in the summer it's blazing hot in there! They have one big fan blowing in there and a small window AC! Great authentic Mexican food, so far the best I have ever tasted. Especially the cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans were incredible, I highly recommend coming to this place. Something else that makes this place stand out is the weighters. They were so kind curtious and just amazing. When we came here the guy joked round with us and we joked with him too. Just the scenery was beautiful, the old pictures, and everything. The cooling was amazing they had fans, and an ac, just fans everywhere. So like I said I would highly recommend this place. After reading all of the great reviews for La Fonda I though I would see for myself. The parking lot was full of cars, trucks, and several police vehicles from the area. If the locals eat here then it must be good. I walked in and sat down at a table right in the front. After several minutes I finally had one of the staff walk over with a menu and ask what I wanted to drink. Several more minutes they returned with my tea and took my order. My order came out in a reasonable amount of time and I dug in. I had worked most of the night so I was ready for "lunch" as it were at 9 in the morning. I had to flag one of the staff down for catsup to put on the hash browns. I would have thought that might have been a standard thing to offer with them. I was here for about a half hour and after the waiter brought out my food and finally got the catsup I never had them come to my table again. My drink went dry and nobody even noticed it even with me at a table right in front of the counter. I finally decided to leave and had to go to the counter to get my ticket and pay. The food was great with decent portions but the service stank! They would have got 4+ stars from me if the service would have been decent. I even watched several of the regulars get up to get drink refills for themselves. I guess that the staff at La Fonda feel that the food is the only reason that they have customers. The service is definately not why people eat here. read more

This is, without a doubt, the best breakfast in Jacksonville. This is a little family-owned taqueria-style diner that is clean, neat and staffed with friendly, attentive folks. The chorizo and eggs were the best I've had (chunks of sauteed onion and potato scrambled in with the eggs and chorizo) and came with refried beans, a side of bacon and warm, fresh tortillas. Husband had the Mexicana platter that consisted of a huge plate of eggs scrambled with onions, peppers and who-knows- what-else, with sides of refried beans, hash browns and tortillas. Both were extremely generous portions but we didn't leave a single morsel. They also serve "American" breakfast items and even have pancakes. read more

I googled "Mexican breakfast + 75766" and old Fonda del Sol came up first with good yelp reviews so a breakfast visit was imminent. Let me preface this review by saying I had a house guest from out of town in for the weekend. Gary Fencik, part of our 46 Defense, was riding shotgun on this morning. Now let me back up and tell you that "Fence" is an Ivy League grad and every bit as pretentious as the rest of those snotty New England pukes. The service was quick and attentive. The coffee was warm and tasty but not your fancy coffee like you'd find in New York City so Fence was a little put off in his typical bitch fashion but that's Fence for ya. Being the ass kicking linebacker I am I ordered the King Plate. Fence being the little bitch Safety ordered some lighter fare. I've got to say if the bar is set in NYC where I was kicking Phil Simms' ass then Fonda would only get 1 star but this is East Texas small town so I'll give 3 stars because the portion size didn't live up to my NFL-sized concussion giving appetite. Nonetheless, the food was tasty and I'll certainly come back although The Fridge would need to order at least of the King Plate. read more
