The ambiance at Rancho Grande appeared to be authentic. I felt like we were in Mexico! I give our server a 3 since it was hard to understand her, we had to remind her several times to bring us things we had ordered, and we asked for water that she never brought to us. The free margaritas were very sweet and there was no taste of tequila, There should be a full bar by now. Stopped in on a Sunday around 4:30pm for an early dinner. And I'm so glad that we did! It's a small place that shares a building with a Mexican meat market store. Service was excellent! My daughter ordered the kids cheese enchiladas. I ordered the shredded chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. My husband ordered the beef enchiladas with queso. Everything was delicious and very well seasoned! The chips and salsa were also very good! The salsa is served warm, not cold. It's flavorful and has just the right amount of spice. The house margarita is also superb! They put fruit garnishes like lemon, grapefruit, and a blackberry in the glass. Highly recommended if you're in the area or just passing through! read more

Huge cross country road trip and we're finally back in Texas. Sure, we saw a few Mexican joints along the way but they ain't in my home state. After we crossed the Louisiana/Texas border and dove south we arrived at Rancho Grande for a late lunch. Combo Fajitas seemed the perfect meal for me as I wanted something heavy enough to last those last miles home.GF tackled her Tostada Plate while I made my first Beef taco with all the usual condiments. Nice flavors with the grilled onions. Buddy is tackling his HUGE Chimichanga smothered in Queso while I made my second taco with Chicken. Did I mention I got Shrimp with Lime Butter Sauce to dip in?? And I couldn't make up our my mind so a Shrimp Enchilada too. Still picking and made another taco! Finally getting full; great service start to finish. I haven't yet but should mention the salsa served with the chips. Some of the best I've ever had with a hint of chili powder. Did I have enough fuel or did I eat too much and want a nap? Ate here on way home from weekend trip. Did a search on Yelp and found one with good reviews. Unsuspecting from street but oh so good! We loved the queso, warm ranchero style sauce served with chips. Homemade tortillas that butter just melted on. I had veggie tostada and hubs had fajitas. Will mark this place to visit again. Staff were great as well. Friendly and good service. I will lead with the positive and say that the Cheese Enchiladas were delicious. When I arrived I had planned to sit at the bar since I was alone, but there was a very loud obnoxious patron at the bar so I headed for the dining room. I actually felt bad for the female bartender who had to contend with this guy. I stood by myself at the front by the "Please wait to be seated" sign for probably close to 10 minutes while employees walked back and forth not making eye contact with me. When I was finally seated, I ordered my Cheese Enchiladas - they came quickly, but unfortunately were Beef Enchiladas (pictured). The waitress seemed very annoyed when I stopped her to get the order corrected, but did bring me the correct order. She never came back until it was time to pay. This place had a fairly full dining room and seemed to be popular with locals, so I would definitely give it another try if I find myself in Jacksonville again. read more

Very good Mexican food smack dab in the heart of Jacksonville. The food here is quite food and the service was excellent. The pre-meal salsa and chips were exceptional. Thin crispy chips accompanied by warm salsa. The salsa was not overly spicy and was super tasty. The flour tortillas were handmade and very tasty. Visiting our cousins Vince and Kim that moved to Frankston less than a year ago, they told us about this great Mexican joint (he's Mexican so he's picky). WOW. AMAZINGLY EXCELLENT FOOD!!!!!! It is actually better than any place I've ever eaten in Cali or Arizona or anywhere! I seen the young girls working on tortillas and asked them if they made fresh flour ones and they said yes. They pointed out there's butter on the tables. YUMMY!!!!! I've been wanting these for years and no one makes them fresh anymore. I ordered some of coarse and gobbled 2 down instantly! Now I'm envious of our cousins even more so! If I lived here I'd be so big eating these daily . It's definitely candy to me. I had street tacos with steak and everything about it was fresh! I asked if they had goat cheese or cojito cheese and she said yes, but brought me Monterey or Jack or something. Definitely not the right cheese for a Mexican taco if you put cheese on it. Thankfully I ordered a side of rice bec it was fresh and delicious!!!! I was so tempted to order flour tortillas and rice to go in hopes our hotel in Waco would heat it up when I'm ready. Hubby got crispy tacos and enchilada. He loved the gravy style sauce on the enchilada and said it's one of the best he's ever had. I don't remember what our cousins got, but obviously they love this place bec they've been here a few times since discovering it. The sweet tea was so good I got one to go for our drive to Waco. The place is really big so there's plenty of space to hold a party. We will return every chance we get!!!! We all 4 HIGHLY RECOMMEND this establishment!!! They do have an overflow parking on the right side of the building. Friendly staff, free chips and salsa. This place is seriously hit and miss, mostly the latter. The hits: warm chips and fantastic house salsa, charred and tasty beef fajita meat, carnitas plate, grilled shrimp, fresh tortillas, refried beans, abundant nachos plates (though sometimes with too much cheese), cheese puff because crunchy shell with queso is never bad. The misses: quesadillas - the crispy tortillas are nice, but they can be super greasy and they have way way... way too much cheese and skimpy almost nonexistent meat, fish taco - tiny with not enough fish and no cabbage or proper sauce, Mexican rice - bland and sometimes in clumps, carne guisada - mostly stew, not enough meat, and the sauce is not what it should be (it's made of tomatoes instead of dried chiles), fajita chicken - dry and bland, enchiladas - terrible with, yep, skimpy meat, tortillas so soggy you cannot cut into an enchilada and come up with a whole bite of anything on your fork, and awful enchilada sauces (gravy like... actual brown gravy?? and "Mexican sauce" that has no flavor). Even the non-food considerations are hit and miss - i.e., service is attentive, friendly, and accommodating, but the prices are too high for the quality and the amount of meat in most of the dishes we have ordered. I would once have given this place 4 stars, but after five visits that have consistently decreased in quality, I think we are probably, sadly, done with this place. read more

Food was great. But server was blatantly ignoring us. Other patrons got service and she refused to serve us. 3 other tables received their orders before us and came after us. She wasn't busy. No matter our request she ignored us. I've never been treated so bad in my life. It was an intentional obvious ignoring. I can't imagine what I/we could have done to cause such action from this server. Towards the end of our meal it even appeared that we were being stared at. After request a take out container, she literally took it to another table that had just been seated, then decided to bring it to us. Blatantly intentional obvious attempt to not serve us. I'm not sure why or what she was so upset about but to blatantly treat a patron that way is NOT Acceptable. I will Never Spend my money at the Establishment. The restaurant is very inviting atmosphere full of color and comfortable seating. Our waitress was very friendly and even gave recommendations since it was our first time visiting. Our food was made hot and came to the table looking very fresh. The salsa was made in house and was delicious...not too spicy just great flavor! We had an order of street tacos and crispy tacos. We tried the queso flameado and the parradilla plate! It did not disappoint! The flour tortillas are made fresh in house and the portions are very generous! I had dinner ordered from Rancho Grande tonight. They made a special order for me and it was incredible. I had the taco salad made with shrimp and it was great. Of course the food was all take-out and everyone there was working so hard trying to fill every order. We also received a free margarita. Just another small Mexican restaurant but the food and service was excellent despite the Covid crises. Had the shrimp enchiladas which were extremely good. Nice taste and texture. The chips were warm and the salsa flavorful. Did a motorcycle ride down here to explore the history of the area and hunt down a few geocaches. Decor was comfortable and relaxed.
