It's not a huge place, but they have a back room that can accommodate med /large family gatherings. It's rustic inside but welcoming and comfortable. The home cooking is great! My grandmother and grandfather recently moved to the area and they are always raving about this place. So we stopped for lunch on a Sunday on my way out of town after a weekend visit. The staff is super friendly! The restaurant is a quaint little cafe with a country feel! You can certainly tell that there is some home cooking going on in there. They have a vast menu that includes daily specials and barbecue. If I'm not mistaken, it is the only place serving barbecue in the area. The daily special on Sundays is pot roast. They also had a November special going on for the entire month which was Turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, two sides, and a roll for $10.99. I placed an order of the turkey and dressing meal to go for my husband. I chose black eye peas and okra as the sides. It also came with a roll and turkey gravy. The portion sizes are a bit small. But it was all pretty good. The black eye peas are delicious! I ordered the 2 meat barbecue plate with sliced brisket and smoked sausage, potato salad, and baked beans. It also came with a roll and three barbecue sauces to have on the table. The hot and spicy was my favorite! It was not very spicy but had just the right amount of tanginess that I prefer. The sweet was my least favorite. The original is okay as well. The brisket was smoky and tender but the pieces were a bit small. The sausage was good! The potato salad needed some salt and pepper but was quite good as well. The baked beans were delightful! I do wish the portion sizes were a bit larger. And some onions and pickles on the side would have really been nice! But for $13.99, it was not bad at all! My daughter chose the popcorn shrimp appetizer (which came with quite a large mount in a basket over fries) and the popcorn shrimp salad. She's been on a popcorn shrimp kick lately! The shrimps were huge for being "popcorn shrimp"! The cocktail sauce was delicious! The ranch is also good. The fries were nice and crispy! And her salad was fresh and covered in plenty of shrimp. We chose to take some desserts home as well. We chose cookies and cream pie slice, a mini cherry cheesecake, and peach cobbler. All three were delicious! We will definitely be back to try some other menu options! read more

Hit or miss. Depends on who is in the kitchen. Can be a great meal at a great price. Can be mediocre. Selection is good. Fish is a great deal typically, CFS variable, sides are good but not always as warm as should be. Hey owners, if you could be consistent in the kitchen, I would eat there weekly again, but now it has been months. Best option in Troup though for home cooking. Fried catfish was incredible. It was nicely seasoned with a perfectly crispy cornmeal coating. Chose fried okra and coleslaw (mighty fine slaw) as sides. Dessert was amazing chocolate pie ( so rich) and I am so stuffed and happy. Next time I'm trying the CFS and coconut pie. read more

My husband enjoyed every bite. He was pretty vocal about it. He talked through the whole first boneless chop and even carried his full stomach in a baby like manner all the way to the truck. What a lovely late lunch. The service, owner and all staff were sweet as can be and very attentive. They certainly take pride in their family recipes and it shows. What a comfortable cafe. Sorry - no photos because we could not wait to dig in. For appetizer we requested cheese sticks that came with ranch and marinara and a happy little nest of fresh cut fries underneath. Yum! We enjoyed the special. Two fried boneless pork chops with two sides and roll. A bowl of brown gravy for dipping. We both had mashed potatoes and green beans. Both were homemade - the green beans reminded me of my mother. True happiness in the first bite. Like memories rushing over my warm happy soul. For dessert my husband had the Reese's cheesecake and I had blackberry cobbler. Both you could tell were made with love. Thank y'all for your hospitality and kindness. I don't know what happened to this place but something bad has happened. We went in today four of us for lunch at 1:05 and we walked out at 1:35. After 15 minutes, my uncle went and told him that no one had helped us. They said they'll be with us shortly. After another 15 minutes and being talking to other people in there, the other customers about the fact we hadn't even had our drink order taken or a menu or anything. The lady finally came over put the menus on the table and said she'll be with you shortly, I can't believe she hasn't already been with you. I don't know who she was. After another five minutes and two other tables had walked in and sat down. They walked up and gave them menus and one guy said I'm ready to order. So she started taking his order. So we decided that we were just being ignored so we left. But we didn't leave before we saw this man make a horrible face and make a weird noise. So I asked him, what was that about. He said the macaroni. Don't order it. We had to ask for a rag to wipe off our table, ourselves. When the lady came over to tell us, they would be with us shortly. When she walked away, she left a dirty napkin on her table and the rag. Somebody needs to revamp this place. I have no idea what happened to it, but it's definitely gone downhill. read more

I would give it 5 stars but for a few reasons. We gathered there for a Mother's Day dinner on a Saturday evening and they had a table ready for us on time, good point one. It did take a while for the waitress a while to take our drink orders, they were busy so I won't take off anything for that, neutral on that point. On my wife's and my order, I requested that our onion rings be put on the side (not on the plate) due to ordering chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with gravy. We didn't want the onion rings messed up by the gravy. Alas, they were on our plates with gravy on them. We didn't desire to wait for a new plate so we cleaned off the gravy as best we could. I don't know about my wife's opinion rings, but mine were overcooked and yet still "doughy" tasting. Our oldest grandson's plate had a huge hair just about woven into it, took a good while for them to bring out a new plate (no offer to discount). My wife always has Dr. Pepper, but she was never offered a refill and when she asked for a to-go one, the waitress told her she would bring an empty to-go cup for the little portion she had left in her glass! My daughter spoke up quickly and said, "No she wants a fresh drink to go", lost a point or two there. In reality, we didn't see our waitress at our table again until she brought the checks. There was a hostess who did get those of us who ordered water refills. Again, they were busy, so this was somewhat understandable. We didn't know that there would be a live band in the other dining area and it was a bit loud and made our table conversations a tiny bit difficult. Not sure we will go back anytime soon. read more

To start off, I ordered a sweet tea which was alright but to be fair it did come in a huge glass with a lot of tea,and went to order but they only gave us the breakfast menu after we asked for the lunch one. After ordering we waited for probably 30-45 minutes to get our food, even with only 3 other groups in there, I ordered a chopped beef sandwich with okra, the sandwich needed to be smothered in barbecue sauce before it was alright, the buns were obviously cheap, the okra was good but kinda tasted frozen, my dad ordered the small tiger breakfast which was alot better than mine, 2 eggs 2 (decent) sausage Patties, 2 biscuits with gravy, and he said it was alright as well. Ate there this past Sunday with the family. The good was fantastic. This is the quintessential small town cafe. They carry all the standards, chicken fried steak, burgers, catfish, and a pretty good assortment of Mexican food. We had a pretty good mix. My favorite is the catfish plate. My wife had the ribeye steak. Both excellent dishes. Their salsa is hands down the best I've ever tasted. You get this chips before your meal. Prices are ridiculously low for this quality of food. Now let me start off by saying this is a nice little country place, we found it one Saturday during a morning ride. Ok now for the review. One taste of their sausage gravy and you'll be hooked!!!!! The chicken fried steak here is just absolutely incredible! Good batter and a nice thickness make this breakfast dish a real winner for sure. The pepper gravy over the steak is great as well!! Even though this little place was packed our server was helpful, friendly and was able to refresh my sweet tea multiple times. I love this! - AND, I LOVE their fresh tea here as well not too sweet just right. I was kind of miffed they would mess up my grits, at first.... They were too runny, but since then everything's 100% to the great here, if you ride and decide to visit Lake Tyler it's only 5 min up the road, you can't miss it. I simply must come back here and try some of the hearty southern lunch items and here...meatloaf, liver and onions, etc. THIS is my kind of place to eat 5 stars!!! My group landed here for lunch. I had been here a couple of times but never written a review. All members of my party ordered the chicken fried steak. It was a standard CFS. I was the only one in our group who ate all of their vegetables. The consensus was that the vegetables were canned and not of the best quality. The chocolate pie was pretty good. The crust was a little overdone. The service was adequate. Maybe the staff just weren't on their A game. I will give them another try. read more

Subpar food, and a clueless server. Put hamburger meat into a mixed fajita dish. Burnt chips and poorly made guacamole. Seems like they are desperate and cutting corners to try and turn a profit. No standards. Your not getting your money's worth coming here. And then the Kitchen Manager wanted to get into a verbal argument in front of all the guests inside the restaurant. Man I love comfort food and this place delivers. I had the special, fried pork cutlets, and my wife had chicken fried steak. We both loved the meal. The special is $6.99 and regularly $8.99. Each day has one and I think we will be back to try the whole week. The sides are really good. Mac N Cheese was very nice with white cheddar. Green beans were text book southern well done from a can. (This is a good thing.) I would like more onion but you could taste them in the back ground. Mashed potatoes were real, not powdered and were nice and fluffy. The pinto beans were the ticket. Very tasty. The main course was the star for both plates. The steak was well seasoned, tender and super crisp. The pork was the same. Honestly, I would choose whichever was the daily special because they are so close in taste. Crunch is a great word to describe the thick batter. Delish. My only issue is the gravy was something out of a box or can. It was good but this would have really made the meal superb if homemade or doctored up more. If you eat it all, you will be full. I don't recall the price but I was a happy camper and left a good tip for great service. I'm a value type of person. Price isn't as important as what I get for the $$$. The food is very good and nice portions. I've been in 2 times on a saturday. They close at 3. My suggestion. . Either greet all customers with appreciation or change your hours to state 'close at 3, no new seating after 2:30.' Both times I've arrived after 2 and was 'greeted' by an obviously disgruntled waitress/hostess/clean up gal. Probably won't go back. read more
