This place used to be good when it first opened. It's a shadow of what it used to be. No more hand, breaded onion rings. The hamburgers do not taste like a real meat. Food was good. Been here before and the one thing I did not like that changed is they now charge $1 for a glass of tap water. We also ordered a soda and a coffee with our 2 meals. It just surprised me as on the menu it does not state water $1. The 3.5% charge for credit card I can understand, but $1 for glass of tap water. read more

It would be easy to assume a small town spot like this is a typical greasy spoon joint, and hey - there's often nothing wrong with those. What's great about Bradford Cafe is you can go the greasy spoon route OR you can get some good Tex Mex / Mexican food or other options as well. Service was helpful, sweet, and personable. The place looked brand new, and the building is NOT old - seems the original burned down not all that long ago. I'm glad they could rebuild and are doing well! Best homestyle food in the area! First visit we got burgers and fries; delicious and fresh. But I waited, because a lot of places make good burgers... Today I got there in time for the breakfast menu; big score!! My Ham & Cheese Omelette with Hashbrowns & Toast was so good that I ate every bite!! It was filling, but even so I wanted to lick the plate. (But folks often look at me funny when I do this, so I refrained.). Nice little cafe in the middle of nowhere. If the Hallmark Channel were to need a setting for a small town Texas cafe, this place would suit them well. This place is on the path between Athens and Palestine. There are not a lot of places along the road, so the choices are few. These are usually the types of places that have little incentive to serve decent food, because they know they have a captive audience. Such is NOT the case with this place, they have excellent food. I got a breakfast plate that came with two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and toast. My eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were nice and crisped on the exterior and tender on the inside, and my toast, though basic, was fresh. It was a great meal. I would not hesitate to stop in on my next visit to Palestine, in fact, I might even go there on my way home too! read more

Food was pretty good. I had the steak fingers and they were a bit tough but had good flavor. They tasted homemade. Mashed potatoes, I'm not sure are homemade and just ok, they have skins in them. The French fries are fresh cut REAL potatoes and super good. Definitely homemade ranch! We also got the jalitos and they were good. Sautéed squash was good and buttery. Hubby got the chicken fried chicken and a lemon pie. He said he liked it. Service was a bit slow but would've been great if they had one more waitress on the floor. read more

Came today and had a kid's meal and two Chicken Fried Steak dinners that totaled $60 by the end. The CFS was completely unseasoned, as was the cream gravy on top of it. Everything else was just fine, nothing special. On our way here from Athens, we talked about not knowing why we stopped coming here and now I remember. It's overpriced for what it is, and it was disgustingly dirty at and around our table. Skip it and save yourself the $$. read more

Driving down Hwy 19, we saw the work trucks and quickly turned into the Bradford Cafe. What a find! My wife got the ribeye special with two sides. Her steak was cooked to perfection. And her green bean side was not from a can. The scratch sides are truly scratch. I had the green chicken enchiladas, which were good, but not great. I was visiting from Austin, for this past weekend (Nov 1-3). The friends I was visiting live in Athens and suggested that we try Bradford out. The food and service was EXCEPTIONAL. The chicken fried steak one of the BEST I have ever eaten to be honest. So good was this meal, that we returned the next morning for Breakfast and again for breakfast Sunday morning. The breakfast was just as GOOD as the dinner. I would highly recommend this place to anybody, and especially folks traveling through East Texas. If I could give six stars I would. I will be back. Tables that had been cleaned were still dirty. Blt had No condiments on it and the bacon was dry. The tomato was approximately 1/8" thick. Fries and onion rings super greasy. Grilled ham and cheese was very greasy and tasted microwaved. Had to go to a different table for sugar. Staff was dressed like they belong in wallyworld. We have eaten at the Bradford Cafe twice now and I feel comfortable to write a review. The first time we had chicken fried steak, baked potatoes and a salad. The overall rating out of 10 would be a 9.5, the .5 deduction for a bit of tired lettuce in my wife's salad. My salad was fine. The second time i had catfish, onion rings and a baked potatoe. My wife had catfish, fried okra and coleslaw. The over all rating out of 10 would again be a 9.5, the .5 deduction because my baked potatoe was not warm. In summation we both highly recommend the food that was prepared for us. Of particular note, the waitress told me that normally they might use frozen onion rings but since the place was not crowded they could make them by hand. My weak spot is home made onion rings and they did not disappoint. Also the tea was fresh brewed, it tasted like sun brewed, it was as good a glass of ice tea you could get anywhere and better than you would expect. The coleslaw and catfish were also excellent. We love Bradford Cafe! Granted they are literally just down the road from us, so we love the option to call in an order and go pick it up in the drive thru, after a crazy day at work! Love the chips and salsa, great tacos and the hamburger steak is good. Deserts are usually amazing but they change everyday. Also they have yummy milkshakes! Breakfast is great too! We have been here multiple times and the food is like none other within the area. Do yourself a favor and come try out anything on the menu- I promise you will love it! Definitely worth driving by for a full and delicious plate of food! Today was a special day in our family's lives and the staff at The Bradford Café was amazing. We had reservations for 54 folks to come at 1 pm. Our plans changed and they rearranged things to accommodate our group much earlier. All of the staff were all exceedingly polite and helpful. They made sure the food for all in our group arrived closely together, all hot, delicious, and just as we all ordered. They are very serious about their food and serve a wide variety of different options-down home southern style, burgers, as well as Mexican food. I ordered the chicken fried steak platter with the sides of green beans and mashed potatoes.. It was very flavorful and tender-the batter and the gravy were perfectly seasoned. Family came for breakfast. Food is true down home cooking. I should have taken pics, but it smelled so good we started eating. I had the garden omelet. The veggies were fresh and hash browns cooked just as I asked. My sister got the biscuits and gravy and said it was amazing. The sausage was cut up and put in after it was cooked... Just the way she liked it. Parents had the Senior breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed. Servings are very hearty. Customer services is great! Very pleasant. They get two stars for good coffee and decent french toast. But you can't cook bacon the day before and then toss is it the fryer to heat it up. Bacon tasted like the fryer and it was awful and flaccid. And biscuits are on the menu but were not available. Disappointing visit. read more
