They never disappoint! Honest trustworthy and affordable!I just had them out for a new listing who didn't have a front door key. So I called to see if one could be made and IF so (because the door was very old) could it be keyed to match the newer back door. They came out right away... Worked around a drone photo shoot and sure enough .. not only could they make a key but also keyed it the same as the back door. When I told the family they now had a key to the front door .... Went in to get a specialty car key made and went out of their way spending a lot of time going the extra mile to figure it out. (Car "keys" these days are absolutely ridiculous.) They are a dying breed. Locksmiths who actually know locks. Not the guy who works at the "Big Box" retailer who will sell you a lock but who knows nothing on how to service it- be it re-keying, installation, door closers, etc. Not the guy that some key places send out to let you back into your apartment but who do it by drilling the door lock versus other options and then charge you a small fortune. At La Grange Lock and Safe- these guys (Charlie and Sam) have been in the business for over 30 years and will get you what you need at a reasonable price quickly and efficiently. The store is tiny. There is hardly room for two people to stand at the counter. And there are key blanks arranged neatly on hooks from floor to ceiling. If they don't have it- chances are it doesn't exist. And I mean every kind of key from modern locks to those old house decorative "skeleton" keys that lock closets and old doors. Craftsmen like this are feeling the pressure especially as lock companies are making their locks easier for the lay man to change the keys themselves. While La Grange still does it all, most people use the big box retailers to buy their locks and then small companies like this to service it. But the real money for a business like this is in the locks, not the keys. But for one old house aficionado, I will continue to take my business to local businesses like La Grange Lock and Safe as they know locks old and new. And why would I want anyone but an expert working on my old house? read more

The hours that the business is open aren't good (M-F, 10 am - 2 pm), but the service is courteous, helpful, and fast. The person behind the counter is an older gentleman who is probably doing this as a part-time, semi-retired gig. I had a couple of keys and a skeleton key that I wanted to have back-up copies made. For regular house keys, the price was very reasonable (about $2.25 per key). For the skeleton key, it was a bit pricier (again reasonable considering it's a SKELETON KEY), but then where else could you find a blank that closely matched and then have it ground properly to work perfectly. read more

After she finished, without even being asked, she stayed and adjusted our extremely loud and sticky door (which many have attempted and failed). The door opens and closes like a dream now! I used LaGrange Lock to repair/replace my deadbolt. The locksmith came out on New Years Eve and apparently was the only person covering the office on the holiday. Despite being so busy, she took the time to do the job right. After replacing the deadbolt, my previously installed August lock wasn't working exactly right. She stayed and continued to adjust the deadbolt until it worked smoothly with the August lock. I was very happy with her determination to making sure the job was done right. read more

So I purchased one of those hi tech keypad security locks from Amazon. Supposed to be simple to install. Not in my case...Door had to be modified. Went out on the NET to find a local locksmith. I soon found out It's not so easy to find a true LOCAL locksmith. Many show local addresses but when you check details they turn out to be not local at all but "mobile" businesses that travel multiple cities and have no discernable home base. In other words you do not really know who you are letting in your home to work on your security. Not such a good idea. Well, I kept at it and was lucky enough to find Lagrange Lock and Safe Company. This is an "old line" established business with a real brick and mortar shop in Countryside. I called them and to my surprise, immediately got to speak with the owner, Scott, about the details of my project. Further, to my surprise he said he could be at my home in 20 minutes! Scott showed up as promised and quickly completed the job in a very professional manner. It was obvious that he immediately knew what to do, how to do it, and had all the specialized tools required for my job. He also cleaned up after himself. His price was reasonable. In today's world it is difficult to find companies and people as good as Lagrange Lock and Safe and Scott. I recommend them very highly and wish I could give them 10 stars! read more

Was able to fit me into a tight schedule, the week before Thanksgiving when my front door knob fell off. This is the original set to the home from 1931. Able to fix and reinstall the door knob, fixed the lock that had never worked right since we moved in, and made 3 new keys in under an hour. Polite and courteous with reasonable charge. read more
