Because my project involved a custom door replacement that required condo association approval, custom ordering, painting, lock placement, and installation, there were several phases involved. Walter, the locksmith technician who handled the project from beginning to end, did an outstanding job. His workmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail truly stood out, and the finished result exceeded my expectations. I sent out a free estimate request via Yelp and received far too many responses My primary, evidently probable Yelp Elite and Yelp All-Star review are based on Yelp and my communication with the owner Shay. Perhaps he is of Irish heritage, I never had the opportunity to find out 1) I have seen over 300 photographs of his work This man is the very BEST if you are only looking for a handyman or have no assistance from even an essentially useless husband in the paint or a long hair clogged shower drain 2) Shay is a LIAR I appreciate that he was willing to drive out to The suburbs of Chicago from all the way East in Logan Square His estimate is NOT free as Yelp guaranteed He requires photographs (easy peasy) of the locks as well as *$45* to even come out to take a look He broke the Yelp Guarantee right there Chicago Locksmiths should be banned from Yelp same as nobody should have voted for Trump. There were zero good choices but at least ond was NOT a babbling dementia suffering 90 yeat old 3) Shay claims the his primary concern is home and auto safety If that were actually true then with photos in hand he has zero reason to have a $45 fee to take a look I have zero reason to take issue with Shay - especially his quality of work All that I know is that Shay LIED to Yelp in order to gain business and if that works for him, then I do not give a fxck I shall not be used I have Elite and All-Star status that I EARNED with Yelp and followers Every single one of my Yelp reviews are shared with Google I sincerely hope that my review discourages anybody and everybody from hiring Chicago Locksmiths read more

As a follow-up to my recent comments, I am now satisfied with the resolution to the issue I had with the company. I received a call from Marisella in customer service on 7/3/2026. She explained that because my door frame was not a standard size, the company could not do the security door installation that I requested. Because I paid $128.75 for an estimate, but never received any anything in writing (or verbally), I was understandably upset. Marisella processed my refund and was extremely helpful in getting my issue resolved in a timely manner. My rating is now 5-stars based on her efforts. read more

Went here to get a second key fob starter for a car I recently purchased. The service in the store was great. The issue I had was that the people I communicated with beforehand did not perform well. They said the part I needed was in stock when it wasn't. The quoted price was also wrong. The store is difficult to park at. Limited street parking. They have no lot. Overall they did a good job programming the part. Only took 45 minutes! read more

Had to get locks rekeyed same-day. Contacted this company thru Yelp, and got a quick response. We were scheduled for 4 pm the same day. Communication with the tech was great. Job was done correctly and swiftly. The price was fairly reasonable. $89 base fee, plus $60+ per lock rekeyed. Pretty good, for same day service. read more

They came to repair a door/lock on my gate in my backyard. It was an iron frame that have gotten bent and was longer operable. The technician came within the scheduled window, and was able to straighten out a part of the iron latch. He gave me a good price since he didn't have to use any power tools. read more

Great experience! I called ahead, and they have an operator for the different locations. They confirmed that they could make a copy of the house key and the store hours. This location has street parking and an open lot across the street we used. The store attendant was attentive and helpful immediately and got my key made very quickly at a reasonable price. read more

Due to their highly rated reviews, I chose them to change my door locks. After giving the quotation, I specifically asked whether there was any extra cost, and then he said no. After everything has installed. The invoice showed transportation charge $75. Credit card charge another 3% or so. And then I found out that the color of the lock and the handle are different colors. Few hundred bucks for a less than $50 locks, with a different color handle. What a rip off! read more

He went above and beyond and I'd hire Chicago Locksmiths again if I knew I was working with him. 5 stars! I give a 2 stars review of the rest of the process (where Mark was not involved). I wanted to replace a lock which didn't meet code with a new lock - and get the other 3 existing locks rekeyed to match. The estimate came quickly and was clear. But the process broke down after that. I wanted guidance to determine what brand of new lock to buy that would be compatible with the remaining locks. The guidance provided by most of the office was not helpful and just frustrated me. One man told me to bring my keys to the Home Depot and compare them to new locks I wanted to buy - I balked at that overwhelming proposition - I'm not a professional locksmith, how would I know, that's why I called them. He then asked me to send photos of the locks and keys I had so they could have a technician offer advice. I sent the photos but neither the office guy nor a technician ever followed up. I followed up repeatedly over several days - its a good thing it wasn't an emergency. Finally, a considerate woman in the office took pity on me, responded quickly to my message, and almost immediately connected me to Mark. He gave me good advice, and I requested that he be my locksmith after I purchased a replacement lock. Mark's work looks very nice and the locks work fine. Your office staff/logistics folks may need better training. read more

The fob for my Honda Accord was signaling low battery. So I decided to change the battery myself, which I have done before. Bad idea. After the switch the fob stopped working altogether. I asked for a series of quotes and Chicago Locksmiths came in the lowest, beating some quotes by far (less than half). I was able to drive to their N. Milwaukee location to have what I thought would be my key replaced. After about a 15 minute (tops) wait, the technician noticed I had replaced with the wrong battery. Final charge, $6.00. I really appreciated the honesty and the fair price they quoted for replacement, even when I did not need that. I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them. read more

Can't complain about the quality of the work. However, their pricing is whack. It's $75 for them to come out to your location, installation fee is $85 and then whatever the hardware costs. My bill came to slightly more than $400. Seems to me if they come out and you agree to have them do the work, they should drop the service call fee. My advice is to shop around. after reading this review, Chicago Locksmiths called me and refunded the $75 fee. I cannot recommend them highly enough read more
