Perhaps he is of Irish heritage, I never had the opportunity to find out 1) I have seen over 300 photographs of his work This man is the very BEST if you are only looking for a handyman or have no assistance from even an essentially useless husband in the paint or a long hair clogged shower drain 2) Shay is a LIAR I appreciate that he was willing to drive out to The suburbs of Chicago from all the way East in Logan Square His estimate is NOT free as Yelp guaranteed He requires photographs (easy peasy) of the locks as well as *$45* to even come out to take a look He broke the Yelp Guarantee right there Chicago Locksmiths should be banned from Yelp same as nobody should have voted for Trump. He went above and beyond and I'd hire Chicago Locksmiths again if I knew I was working with him. 5 stars! I give a 2 stars review of the rest of the process (where Mark was not involved). I wanted to replace a lock which didn't meet code with a new lock - and get the other 3 existing locks rekeyed to match. The estimate came quickly and was clear. But the process broke down after that. I wanted guidance to determine what brand of new lock to buy that would be compatible with the remaining locks. The guidance provided by most of the office was not helpful and just frustrated me. One man told me to bring my keys to the Home Depot and compare them to new locks I wanted to buy - I balked at that overwhelming proposition - I'm not a professional locksmith, how would I know, that's why I called them. He then asked me to send photos of the locks and keys I had so they could have a technician offer advice. I sent the photos but neither the office guy nor a technician ever followed up. I followed up repeatedly over several days - its a good thing it wasn't an emergency. Finally, a considerate woman in the office took pity on me, responded quickly to my message, and almost immediately connected me to Mark. He gave me good advice, and I requested that he be my locksmith after I purchased a replacement lock. Mark's work looks very nice and the locks work fine. Due to their highly rated reviews, I chose them to change my door locks. After giving the quotation, I specifically asked whether there was any extra cost, and then he said no. After everything has installed. The invoice showed transportation charge $75. Credit card charge another 3% or so. And then I found out that the color of the lock and the handle are different colors. Few hundred bucks for a less than $50 locks, with a different color handle. What a rip off! read more

The fob for my Honda Accord was signaling low battery. So I decided to change the battery myself, which I have done before. Bad idea. After the switch the fob stopped working altogether. I asked for a series of quotes and Chicago Locksmiths came in the lowest, beating some quotes by far (less than half). I was able to drive to their N. Milwaukee location to have what I thought would be my key replaced. After about a 15 minute (tops) wait, the technician noticed I had replaced with the wrong battery. Final charge, $6.00. I really appreciated the honesty and the fair price they quoted for replacement, even when I did not need that. I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them. read more

Can't complain about the quality of the work. However, their pricing is whack. It's $75 for them to come out to your location, installation fee is $85 and then whatever the hardware costs. My bill came to slightly more than $400. Seems to me if they come out and you agree to have them do the work, they should drop the service call fee. My advice is to shop around. after reading this review, Chicago Locksmiths called me and refunded the $75 fee. I cannot recommend them highly enough read more
